I have the pro charger, and it is the best charger I have found. Works great for my slash 4x4 and for my night crawler. So many things you can do with that charger.

@RE5niggajoedickballs The grub screw located on the pinion gear holds the gear to the shaft of the motor. So in short, yes. Thats the grub screw. Do not apologize. @mustangluver101 Sure. Take the motor out of the truck. Many hardware stores carry kits that allow you to remove stripped screws. If you cant find one you will need a dremel and will most certainly have to cut the pinion off the shaft. It will take some time and get someone to help who has done it before. Make sure you wear eye protection when using any type of cutting tool.

I bought mine as a roller, too. I run a 550 size Tekin SC4X motor on mine, and I use a 15 tooth pinion with a 54 tooth Robinson Racing metal spur gear. Not even sure what stock is, but who cares when you have a race roller? The sky's the limit on that build.

how tight should i make the set screw in the pinion gear? i think mine are stripped. doesnt seem like i can really wrench on it at all just kinda snug. I tried to pull it off and it ddint so im putting it back together and will keep and eye on it

@234mrcool When installing the pinion make sure the grub screw faces the flat edge of the motor shaft and use blue lock tite. If this does not solve the issue then you may have a stripped grub and or pinion. In this case use a new one...

I was changing the moter on my slash and when reinstalling the screw that holds the motor in place the hex nut started to spin and I can only get the screw about a quarter the way in. Do you have any suggestions on how I can tighten it again? Or do I have to replace it?

By increasing the size of the pinion gear you will increase the top speed of the vehicle. You can also get more power by increasing the voltage to a point. You will only go as fast as your gearing will allow. It boils down to driver preference. I like a lot of punch so I run 7 cells min with gearing 13 to 15 off road. 16 to 18 on-road.

I did all of this, but it stripped my plastic clutch pinion, so a got a metal one. And the metal one made easy work of my 13t pinion and my 19t pinon! any help would be great!!

what 7 cell battery would you suggest for a slash 4x4

HELP, my stock pinion busted at the screw that holds it in place, and I had a black replacement pinion (not sure where I got it, but it was in an original wrapping). I popped it in, put it in place and checked for proper bite, but now my truck locks up every couple seconds...not like its jamming, but just doesnt want to respond to throttle controls. I checked spur gear, there are a couple teeth that are starting to degrade, but I dont think that is what causing it to freeze. What do you think??

Was it a 48 pitch back then or allready a 32pitch gear ?

@jdlemme Check to see if you have a small stone(very small) stuck in the spur or you set the mesh too tight. If you see teeth getting a little out of shape a tight mess or tiny debris will hangup the gearing. Worst case is you have a failed bearing in the drive line...

what 3s lipo do you guys suggest using where I could still use the stock pinion?! Thanks!

@Babypunter117 Sure...Post it and lets have a look...I think it may just be your slipper since the clutch will need to be tightened due to the added torque from a larger pinion.

hey, im trying to finally change to the optional pinion, but none of the wrenches they supply or the set I own work to undo the grub screw! The smallest wrench they supply with the kit goes into the grub screw hole, but when I trist the wrench, it goes around clicking and will not undo the screw! What do I do? Please Help!!!

@skathious1 Actually the opposite is true. A small spur and a larger pinion will yield greater top end speeds but you will cook the motor. I guess the best question to ask you is what do you want to achieve? Right out of the box the Slash is a beast with 3s Lipo. So much so I suggest getting a smaller pinion to slow it down and increase run time while decreasing motor temps.

Have you ever occured a problem where you could not get the pinion/spur to mesh no madder how many times you try?? That's my problem.....I have the motor sitting on the pin and everything......I do everything in your video but the gears just don't want to mesh, even if I push down on the motor!!! Any tips?? I don't understand why this is happening............

Venom battery charger?

Hold the spur gear with one finger and rock the pinion back and forth. There should be just a little play back and forth. The paper method is simply putting a strip of paper between the teeth of the spur and the pinion, tightening it all the way down, then removing the paper. That leaves just a little space between the two gears for good gear mesh.

@baconator127 a 32 pitch 13t pinion with a mod .8 spur.

The diametral pitch of of .6 mod is 42.3 so the answer is no. Can anyone else back me up?

@RE5niggajoedickballs Something is wrong. First off, what spur ans pinion are you using? Second, inspect the truck for any deformation from a crash such as the motor mount plate out of wack or the the motor mount itself. Something is keeping you from setting it up. Also make sure the pin on the mount is not somehow bent or too tight keeping you from seating the motor correctly. Let me know if this helped or you still need assitance..

@RE5niggajoedickballs No. If you want waterproof then you need a MaxAmps battery...Also remember. ONLY the electronics are waterproof. Not the truck. You MUST do a complete cleaning after a run in the water or your hardware including the bearings WILL rust. Water also likes to collect around the shaft of the motor so be warned...

My pinion gear is 20t and spur is 50t. Way high motor temps. Went to install stock pinion but it wont mesh to the spur. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Ever try using marine grease on your bearings? If so, did it provide too much drag?

I'm using the stock pinion and spur.

ive been trying that 1.5mm for about an hour and just keeps clicking.........would i have to buy a whole new motor if i stripped the screw?! I'd just sell the truck...........traxxas is way too complex for me! lol..............anyway ive screwed trying to change the gear and just tried to put the motor back in.........but will not go back in..........soon as i put the long motor screw in, the pinion gear, no madder how hard i push down on the motor, will not mesh at ALL!!

@Babypunter117 Installed what? The pinion gear? In any event a high pitch whine is usually the slipper clutch being too loose. Check it. Another cause for a high pitch whine however very un-common can be from the motor due to the rotor becoming too hot and allowing it to spin freely around the shaft. This is non repairable and a new rotor is in order...

Everything seems to be fine.......Everything was working fine until I took the motor out........But soon as I tried to put it back in, it won't mesh!

@RE5niggajoedickballs BE CAREFUL. If your hex wrench slips too many times you WILL strip the grum screw and be SCREWED. Pardon the pun. You must find a hex wrench that fits snug. I use the 1/16th but Traxxas supplies 1.5mm. This works but WILL slip if you put some muscle into it. Find a 1/16th and you should be golden...

Installing the pinion gear grub screw too tight WILL crack the gear. Been there, done that. Yes! Any metal to metal part on your truck should have BLUE loctite on the threads.

you're supposed to set the pinion gear a millimeter or 2 back off the spur gear so it's not fully on, or else the result is a higher pitch sound like a weed eater and a burnt up motor

First make sure the pinion is 32 pitch then make sure your gear mesh isnt too tight.

@snowboard2000000 Only one of two things can be wrong. A) your not tightening it enough or I think its B) you tightened it so much the pinion gear has a hairline crack and needs to be replaced...

@RE5niggajoedickballs Then you are not seating the motor properly on the pin of the motor mount so it can swivel into place. I will post a more detailed video on the proper seating of the motor shortly...
