Here's my thoughts of the truck and a quick tour!
Yep, I said it. Traxxas Slash 4x4 Platinum Edition LCG (2012 version, model 6804R) Probably one of the most popular (outselling every other SCT on the market) Short Course trucks and the original! The Traxxas Slash paved the way for all the others out there. The Slash, also has some dark clouds mostly due to the original HCG (High Center of Gravity) plastic chassis and its durability. The Traxxas Slash 4x4 was my first RC way back in the day and it got me started out. It has many many positives to boot like: Very easy to work on, Parts availibility (both stock and aftermarket), lightweight and in this version, included upgrades! I will be starting the "Project Sleeper". This will be raced on an indoor clay track with all the high end SCT's out there. I will be giving it some RCNetwork upgrades to see if it can't really compete! Please check out the whole series in this nice little playlist!

Great series! I just completed a similar bash build so no center diff for me. I also went with Tekno drive shafts all the way around. I grabbed a rally roller and went from there. Still gets pricey to complete the project but it was a fun build. Thanks for your videos. You must be local to me since I recognized Gyro Hobbies. Not impressed with their new location. Hope they get it cleaned up. Hard to take my kids in there with stuff all over the floor.

Hey, thanks for watching. The Slash is pretty versatile. As for Gyro, I'm really disappointed in the new spot. It's about 1/2 the size and it seems like they have scaled way back. The only good thing is they'll pretty much order in anything for you and it typically takes only a couple of days. Nitrohouse is another good resource depending on what you're looking for. It's definitely not a showroom though!

Great video. Just converted my Stampede to one of these. SCTE is my primary truck. Suspension took forever to get to where it is 'as good as it gets' - using an extra set of SCTE shocks and springs. Went through quite a few different pistons and oil weight. Looking forward to your running video.

Hey Robert, thanks for watching! Matt is awesome and MIP stands behind thier products, so I'm sure they will help solve the issue. I have not had any issue with the Race Duty Alum. CVD's. They have been put through the test with the Pro4 tekin motor I'm running! You may want to disassemble the rear of the truck and verify there's nothing binding at all. Check the diff, suspension arms, shocks, etc. Could it have happened during full travel of the suspension on a jump? to be cont...

Very helpful man, thanks! I'm calling mine project scorpion. It's a Slash platinum and it's heavily moded, RPM a-arms, bulkhead, rear bumper i kept the stock front bumper for the same reason you did, lol, & nerf bars with MIP steal driveshafts front and back. I'm saving up for the STR green aluminum shock towers and a few other parts! We were thinking almost the same thing as far as hop ups except I'm going with a green theme! Keep making videos man, thanks much!

If you're getting one of the HCG (High center of Gravity) Slash's, Traxxas offers a LCG kit for about $65 that would include all the parts to convert it. I highly recommend this, as it will keep your truck glued to the track more. It's not as easy as just swapping chassis, as there are a few more unique LCG parts like the motor mount, receiver box, front bulk head, etc.

Lots of times, when you start mixing stock with aftermarket components, there is some grey area. Like the MIP Race duty CVD's require only certain shock positions on the A arms. MIP assumes you are using stock A Arms, but the Integy Arms may have slightly different positions. That could be your issue. Hope this all helps!

The RCNetwork Hey man, I love your vids. I've been on a watching spree lately! You do some really nice work and build some really nice rc's! cwthemachinist Thanks for the great comments. Yeah, I watched the two vids out on it and got excited that TLR is finally coming out with it, then got bummed that it's belt drive and still using ball diffs. That's what I hate about my B44.2, the ball diffs! THEN, I heard today about the new Hot Bodies 4wd buggy that tessman is running. 4wd, geared, oil filled diffs, f/c/r and monocoqued a arms! It looks super beefy! That will be on my list for sure!

Hi Rich, just picked up some of the MIP's today. The pack I got had up travel limiters for the shock shafts. Maybe some fuel tube might help you out. I was in two minds about getting these, but the X duties are just too heavy. Time will tell if they will go the distance.

Hi Rich, First of all, great build. I built a slash 4x4 ultimate shadowing your build with a few added parts. I added the HOT RACING one way center diff, and a complete set of INTEGY aluminum suspension arms and shock towers. My only issue is that I keep twisting the MIP aluminum CVD axles in the rear in half. I have been in contact with Matt Olsen at MIP recently as to the problem. They are offering steel versions of the race duty CVD's now. Just wondering if you have run into the same issue.

Jorge Estrada Hey Jorge.....The Slash is an all around great SCT RTR. It does what it says and says what it does. I have had 2 of them now. With that said, it's not the type of car you want to start upgrading on (unless you have a ton of cash). Depending on your budget, there's lots of SCT RTR's out there that are much better and can be easily upgraded. Many of them are based on 1/8th scale platforms. The Losi SCTE (TLD Edition) is a great RTR, The Arrma Senton is bomb proof, but needs 4s lipo to make it go. Last if you're considering building a kit, the Tekno SCT410 (or SCT410.3) is a great platform, but needs electronics, body and wheels/tires

A few thing come to mind about my Tekin system. Cooler (Much cooler!), More torque (being a 4 pole), sensored (which means its smoother on throttle pull) and faster! I was sold on castle when I first started out, mostly because the castle system didn't require soldering and it was plug n play. Now that I can solder damn good, tekin is the way! They just have a more race inspired line.

@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
The Slash 2wd is super easy to work on. Unfortunately, I don't believe that STRC products come with much for instructions though. My suggestion is to grab your camera or even phone and take lots of before pictures. Grab your owners manual from the slash and start wrenching! That's the best part about RC is figuring things out. As you start taking apart things, note orientations, screw sizes, etc. I even lay our screws I take out in a pattern so that when I put them back it's familiar. Take your time and don't be afraid to ask questions on KZfaq or even some of the forums.

Nice setup. Very similar to my HCG slash 4x4, however I use a mamba max pro and a castle 3800KV with 3s lipo 5400 mAH 20c and it hits 55 mph easy on a tarmac straight. I would really suggest RPM's suspension arms however. I broke two stock ones when the truck was new and my blue RPM arms have taken far more abuse with no breakage problems.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I ran the RPMs on my first Slash 4x4 back in 2010. The only downfall is just how flexible the arms are. In the racing world, arms need to be transfers of the suspension. BTW, haven't broke one yet, but I do just race it on an indoor track
@maxproph
@maxproph 10 жыл бұрын
The RCNetwork Then there's always the aluminum suspension arm option... I kind of shied away from using them because if the aluminum gets a bad bend, the part is trashed. I dunno. My rpm arms seem to handle just fine though and the main reason I believe the stock arms on the slash are prone to breakage, if you're familiar with mechanical engineering, it is a bad thing to have a stressed member like that have any 90 degree angles in the final part, which the stock ones are chock full of. This translates the center of flex in the part and causes the nylon to be much more prone to breakage because the center axis of flex becomes decentralized. The tried-and-true method of controlling center flex axes is to always have a radius along all edges of the stressed members, which the RPM arms' design employs. My next upgrade are going to be the MIP aluminum-zinc alloy CV driveshafts just like yours. I have a question though, MIP's tech documentation over at Towerhobbies.com states that those shafts were designed for 2 cell lipo setups... just wondering if they would be subjected to too much torque running 3 cell lipo, stock gearing. I use Venom lipos exclusively and once again, my motor is a sensorless 3800KV. Think those half shafts could handle the torque? 7075 aluminum zinc alloy is praised to be almost as strong as steel shafts, from what I have read.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would not recommend aluminum arms for offroad. One bend and it's all over, and you may not know it for a while. Every car needs a "breakpoint" and most of the time, it's the arms. Which isn't too bad at $4 per arm. I would suggest the steel version of the MIP drive shafts for your truck. The Aluminum ones are great, but they do have limitations, like you've seen
@maxproph
@maxproph 10 жыл бұрын
The RCNetwork What kind of limitations? They look pretty tough. Sorry if this was already explained in one of your vids.. have you had any problems with yours from blowing all that Tekin power through them?
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
No issues at all. They are aluminum and can bend though, so I wouldn't feel good about throwing 3s through them. Also keep in mind that when you use the MIP's, you can only use certain shock mounting holes on the a arms. It exoplains this a bit better in the instructions and I believe I went over it in the video

The Slash LCG is pretty versatile for almost anything. Having raced almost all the 4wd SCT's in the market, my favorite (my opinion of course) is still the Tekno SCT410. It has 1/8th scale roots and is really way over-built. It needs literally no upgrades out of the box to be very competitive

Hey its been a while. How would you replace a servo on the slash 4x4 lcg?
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 9 жыл бұрын
Teja Pandrangi The Servo is pretty easy on the Slash 4x4 LCG. You pretty much have 4 bolts on the servo, the servo linkage and plugging into the receiver - One good tip is to dial your servo trim to zero before you plug in your new one. Lastly, the new servo might be in "reverse" mode....Or in other words when you turn the wheel right, it turns left. A simple adjust on your radio will fix that

Yeah, it's taken a back seat at The RCNetwork for now. Lots of new projects right now. Otherwise, it's doing great. I've probably only ran it through about 20 packs so far and no issues. It really rips though!

What do you think about the VXL system ?
@rcz2523
@rcz2523 8 жыл бұрын
it's a little weak and torque isn't great. this leads to overheating. I have a great high power system in my slash and I will be putting up a video soon. check it out.

I have a problem on my traxxas slash the end of the front left cvd is leaking oil. It is at the end of the cvd the part that is leading into the diff case. How should I fix this.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 9 жыл бұрын
Max Balogh It's most likely the diff leaking......Probably need to take out the diff, inspect and re-fill. Possibly a bad seal/improper install/assembly of the diff

@TheRCNetwork

Sure it will definitely get you started. Racers typically like a sensored motor as the motor will be much smoother at start up/low rpm.

Anything Arrma 6s.....I honestly can't recommend Traxxas anymore. They're a great beginner car (hell, that was my first - The Traxxas Slash 4x4) but there's so many better cars out there. If you like the ShortCourse style of trucks, look into the Arrma Senton
@Sunbear415
@Sunbear415 7 жыл бұрын
Why don't you recommend the slash? Mine rips at my track. With the right tires, gear ratio, steering servo, and a good 2s battery, it keeps up just fine. With all of the "upgrades" and money dumped into yours, it should do the same....

Try the variable damping pistons for the GTRs #5461. It will give you quicker rebound without losing damping on the up stroke. They really help!!!

@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
The savox 1258tg is a great upgrade for you. I do have a bench test of the 1257tg (which is only .01 sec faster) on my B44.2 if you want to search that one out. You will need a voltage cap when running the savox (only about $5) and plugs into an open port on your receiver. It will be a night and day difference!
@DeRock401

Yes I want that one my servo is only pushing 125 ounces. I want to have at least 180 -200. I'm only bashing and speed runs. But would like to be able to turn lol.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
The 1258tg has about 170 in/oz and a response time of .08 sec. It should be plenty for your Slash
@DeRock401
@DeRock401 10 жыл бұрын
Yup! Thank you, i was torn between that and the Hi-TECH one that had 200 oz, So with 170oz is that at 7 volts? Do i need an external BEC?
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
170 is plenty for your slash. I run thy same servo in my Tekno SCT410 which is 2 lbs heavier than a Slash. You will need just a voltage cap, that's it.
@TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 10 жыл бұрын
It comes down to the driver. I think the way this truck is set up, it can do anything a Tekno or SCTE can do. The only negative is how light it is. The Tekno is probably almost 2 lbs heavier and if nudged.........you get the picture!

+MrSKEZgraffiti The only thing the HCG (Original version) has over the LCG is a slight bit of ground clearance....but with that, get ready to start walking out to your truck A LOT to roll it over from flipping in the corners. @TheRCNetwork
@TheRCNetwork 8 жыл бұрын
+Ty Reynolds I featured the older model RX8. But as of today, the RX8Gen2 ESC foes for about $185 and the Pro4 4600 motor is about $129. The Tekin electronics are top notch. The main thing you gain by Tekin is US Support - Have a question? Randy Pike, Team Manager will answer....Plus of course, Tekin Hotwire and it's a full sensored set up so it's super smooth vs a sensorless
