Thanks for the update Doc. I've taken Trazodone at 100 Milligrams for years and it works like a charm. Puts me to sleep with no side effects.

For myself also it's been 100mg for several years and this is right before my head hits the pillow. Works great, but after 5 years there are some nights where I'll take another 50mg around 3am with a bad wake up. What are your thoughts on the this? Do patients sometimes need to up the dosages after several years do to tolerance? I don't want to imagine a time when 150 or more is needed. 2nd question... Have you heard of patients having too vivid of dreams on Trazadone? My wife cannot tolerate Trazadone because of this and takes benzodiazapines

Yeah for me too trazodone increases nightmares thats why i am taking it in low doses 50 mg if i still cant sleep i will take an additional 25 mg

I took 300 mg for years for sleep. Currently taking 100 mg. Love this medication. It works most nights & I've had no negative side effects. Always take with food, though, or it causes dizziness.

It makes a good sleeping pill and an antidepressant also heard it was for anxiety.

It has many side effects like extreme fatigue and weight loss. That is the two I had so I quit taking it. I got down to 90 lbs. No I am frantically trying to gain weight.

Really? I'm 74 years old (male) and over the past 3 years I'm getting down to stick & bones with almost no muscle mass. This has caused an increase in sports injuries. I've never before heard of weight loss with Trazadone.

I have been taking Trazadone for about 8 years. I started low, and am at 200 milligrams. Sometimes, I will take 100 mgs, and if I wake up in the middle of the night, and can't get back to sleep, I take the other pill.

I have been taken 50 to 25 mg for 20 years plus so for about a year now I’ve been taking that 50 mg tablet and cutting it into pieces to the point where it was about the size of an apple seed took me about a year to do it well it’s been two weeks out and now I’m having a terrible withdrawal I don’t have any health insurance and I’m not sure what to do so I’m gonna go back on a tiny piece for about five days and then I’m going to try taking that tiny piece every other day for a while

In my opinion Traz is better than hydroxyzine. Hydroxyzine is mainly used for anxiety

@@Anonymous-eq5jy we use both in the hospital for sleep. Usually 50 mg hydroxyzine first. Traz is next in line.

I can't believe you mentioned the priapism side effect. I watched this just to see it you would mention it. It happened to to me and I don't think the mental scars of what happened to me that day will ever go away. The pain on that day was so great that i was asking for needles to be stuck in my penis asap.

Sorry to hear that. That is awful...how many milligrams were you taking? My doctor recommended this for sleep but now I am concerned.

@@joeyconvery2055 100mg. I think it's pretty rare. Just be mindful. I took it for over a year no problem. Didn't take note of the fact i almost always woke up with morning wood. Haven't taken since the incident. I think if I took one, I'd have a panic attack.

I take 150mg Trazodone for sleep still awake most nights only getting 4/5 some nights with this I have bad Depression and anxiety and severe tinnitus 24/7 nothing masks it so loud thanks for sharing I also take Amitripilene 50mg.

I am just starting trazodone 50 for sleep. I will be taking this while on 25 Luvox and 100 modafinil for waking hours, will all of these meds compliment each other well?

So if you don't fall asleep in 45 minutes you don't get to sleep or take another 25mgs?

Thank you for watching, and I appreciate the question. It's important to speak directly to your provider about this. With that said, I have had patients who will take this medication, and if they don't fall asleep after about 30-60 minutes, they've found that taking another smaller dose, can be helpful. Taking a second dose later in the night though, could substantially increase risk of grogginess or a "hangover" effect in the morning. It's also important that the total dose is never greater than that that's prescribed by a patient's mental health professional. Thank you again for participating in the discussion! - Dr. Pagnani

I have pacs, pvcs and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Will 50 mg of trazodone be a problem?

This would definitely be something that you'd need to discuss with your cardiologist. Trazodone and many psychiatric medications can affect heart rhythm, particularly in those who already have underlying vulnerabilities or cardiac conditions. With that said, sometimes they can be used safely (it's just important to discuss directly with your provider, as each patient is unique, and if they did start the medication, they likely would want to monitor). I could never know what's best or safe for a patient, without a full evaluation, and likely without coordinating with their other medical providers. Thank you again, - Dr. Pagnani

No. Only for benzos, there is an increased risk apparently. I m mirtazapine for the last 13 years and helped me so much. The sleep feels very natural.

I take 50mg too and it works quite well for me, just get in the bed and don't look at a screen. At least for me that does the trick, the sedated feeling really helps me with falling asleep. Though it sure doesn't just knock you out instantly. Maybe try another medication if that's what you need, especially if this causes headaches.

Because it makes you tired. You can wake up when you need too. For instances when my children where little. Ambrien is a crap hang over 💩 💩. For me i wasnt taking it ever night. Turns out it IS that extra bump my depression needs.

If our depression symtoms is controled with esitaloperam but insomnia stay than we can used trazodone for insomnia.

It is not uncommon for an individual to take an SSRI for depression and then trazodone at a low dose for insomnia. There are possible side effects (and even additive side effects, like risk for cardiac changes) so anyone considering these types of medications should be working directly with their medical (prescribing) provider. What about this post SSRI ? Erectile dysfunction I havei took any mood manade pill for 6 years my life is getting more intense I don't really know anymore I remember being on some pills that I would draw a bath taking Ativan wondering why I'm here and the drive to want to do things gets to a low I hear about people not being able to cry or want to have any sex ... This Trazodone and Escitalopram were suggested to me by a nurse practitioner but I'm not very convinced to surrender myself into taking something to suppress me ... They say it's a serotonin booster but there are other things that have me on the fence I don't know what to do @@RittenhousePsych

I have taken both for many many years. Made my life way better. 5-10mg escitalipram in am, 25mg trazadone right at bed. Don't miss the window...you have about 30-1hr where it helps you knock off and stay alseep

Weight gain is from eating too many calories. I ve been on mirtazapine an gained almost 40lbs an was skinny. I started tracking my calories and already lost 22 pounds. It will be harder as these drugs definetely make you feel hungrier. High satiety foods, try to walk a bit more. Plus rest and sleep. Opt for leafy greens, meat, fish, potatoes, oats, fruit. Track everything and see how it goes for 2 weeks. You ll be surprised how many calories a person eats. I always exceeded my tdee by 1000 calories. It s really just science. These drugs don t magically turn you fat.
