As a former 15 WRX owner I can tell you that the TC2 does have better handling. Not by much but once you install the TRD lowering springs it undoubtedly has much better handling. WRXs awd pulls you out of corners much faster but feels more at home in loose terrain. For paved roads FWD or RWD are better options. Awd is simply added weight that doesn't help much unless you have a high hp application.

Thanks for the video and the work you put in to produce it. I planned to put TRD lowering springs on, a guy on the forum trashed them so bad. He said the ride is rock hard. Until I saw your video, I was going to go with Tein coilovers. Thanks to you, I will be buying the TRDs. I'm not a racer and I won't be tracking my tc. I think the TRD lowering springs will add just the right amount of handling and looks I want for my car. Thanks.

I don't know what that person is talking about. Maybe they had worn out shocks. If the ride was harsh like that, my girlfriend wouldn't like riding in the car at all. I think you'll be happy with them.

Just a heads up, My TRD springs sticker was on the wrong side, if you either don’t have the sticker or if it’s on the reverse side just out the smaller diameter spring up. (Double checked this with the install instructions from Toyota.)

Nice tutorial man.. love it.. I just bought some trd springs.. Question I saw on a few forums that some people experienced noise, creaks etc after installing these springs. Did your have any of this happen after installation? I plan on using the same struts.

I occasionally get a little noise going over speed bumps with the weather getting cold, but I sounds more like the shocks / struts compressing or possibly the sway bar bushings. Otherwise, my suspension is pretty quiet.

awesome video Derrick! super comprehensive and thorough, i've been watching your vids over the years and they've been a super helpful guide for working on my 2015 tC. one quick question, what mileage was your tC at when you installed these? i installed my TRD springs on OEM struts at around 35,000 miles, and would consider the KYB ones later down the line or if there were problems (but not anticipating anything anytime soon, these TRD springs are great)

Yes, they were designed that way actually. If you look at the Toyota installation guide, there is no listing for different struts. And no, I had no issues.

Awesome video! How has this setup hold up long term? I've 'heard' that the KYB shocks die real fast when paired with lowering springs. Have they held up fine with those Eibachs since they aren't very aggressive?

I actually have coilovers installed now, but KYBs are the OEM struts that Toyota uses with their TRD lowering springs. In fact, if you read the installation manual for the TRD springs, Toyota just reuses uses the factory struts. That being said, I had TRD springs on my 300WHP 2001 Corolla for several years with KYB struts and had zero issues with them.

Baltimore streets are awful and I also drive down a lot of roads that are heavily traveled by 18-wheelers (some of them look melted and warped), so 1" drop max it is for me.

I made it myself using honeycomb grill I found on Amazon. I didn't make a video of it since I didn't want to encroach on ScionGrilleLife (Blair Layman) who makes custom grills and he helped me out when I had some questions about making my own. It's not hard to do. You just need 1/4" thick honeycomb grill; there's a few different ones at amzn.to/3N9shm0, and 1/4" thick edge trim from amzn.to/3GrVNQh. I have mine secured with very small zip ties, so you can barely see them.

I just bought my 2013 TC MT, it handles well, it came with TRD lowering springs and TRD strut bar. I wanted to get sway bars but theres none on ebay and brand new they are just too much. if i got with the mid chasis brace or traction bar do you think i would fel the difference? I drive it normal and its my daily driver

Get the mid-chassis brace. You'll notice an improvement with handling all around. That brace will have the most impact.

I haven't looked for repair kits. Do you have a stick or auto? While I haven't looked into what is needed to service my manual gearbox (yet), I know the auto transmissions are sealed (no dipstick) and require proper equipment to drain and refill them.

They are a wear and tear item. I've been pretty easy going on mine, so I re-used them this time around, but I'm going to change them out the next time I replace my struts even if they seem alright.

Well I guess we can keep using OEM shocks with lowering springs, if they are now lower than 40 mm. Otherwise, you will need sport shocks.

@@stephengordon5858 stock struts and shocks are fine with 1" max because the spring rate is still within the tolerances for them. The lower you go, the higher the spring rate.

I can't decide between whether i want the trd springs, or the tein street basics (their most basic coilovers) for my tc gen2 - I'm not looking to slam it or anything, but i am interested in improving the stance and handling of the car while still keeping it comfortable for daily driving. what do you think? i'm new to suspension upgrades so i've been gathering all my information from reviews here on youtube.

If you're happy with the drop on the TRD's and aren't planning on adjusting your height, then stick with springs. If you're going to get coilovers, upgrade to a set that allows dampening adjustment or even custom spring spring rates if you're worried about ride quality.

Whats wrong with the OEM Shocks n Struts? Do the KYB Perform better or make the car ride less harsh over bumps or uneven roads? And I heard that the rear camber gets funky because toyota didnt design adjustable rear camber for the lowering springs.

KYB is actually the OEM manufacturer for Toyota and many other Asian manufacturers. It usually costs less to just get shocks and struts from them instead of the dealership. As for the rear, the camber should be fine as long as you don't drop it a lot. I'm not sure how far, but I have a 2" drop and I'm still in spec. They do make adjustable rear camber arms if that's an issue. I actually installed a set in anticipation of having camber issues when I installed coilovers, but the shop didn't need to touch them when I had my alignment done.

I haven't used Teins, so I don't have any personal input, but both are good companies and both will perform well. Some people have said the TRD / Eibach's are a smoother ride, but then I've also seen other say Tein's were smoother. At this point, you'll want to just look at the which one will provide the drop you want.

It depends on the milage on your struts and shocks and how rough you've been with them. Since mine were already at 85,000+ miles, it made sense to replace them.

Cuz I have the bilstein b6 rear shocks off from 2nd/3rd gen Toyota Tacoma that doesn’t have those rear shock bushings with sleeves. And I was wondering if u know about them? If not, then there’s either order custom sleeves or very cheap brand new rear shocks just to get those sleeves.

@DerrickAquino So how’s ur KYB - Excel - G shocks and struts? Is ur front a complete strut plus? Any issue with them so far? And what are ur thoughts about strut plus? And what’s ur opinion about putting on Bilstein 4600 on the xB, from rav4 front struts and Tacoma rear shocks? Also what are ur thoughts about KYB top struts mount? I seen 50/50 of people got no issues. And others had them for few months and then starts to go bad. And they said an oem and NOT KYB top strut mount is better.

I installed only the strut on mine. Strut plus is fine if you're trying to retain a factory ride since it includes the spring, but in this case, it doesn't make sense. I haven't used the strut plus series, so I have no input on their quality, but Toyota does use KYB as an OEM manufacturer. As for my struts, I haven't had any issues and am back on them after swapping back to TRD springs from coilovers. I have no opinion on the top mounts, but I usually stick with OEM for that. I don't klnow much about the xB to give any input, nor have I dealt with Bilstein since my last project car wasn't supported.

@@FunGuyFruits I put the links in there because I've seen (in fact just last week) a lot of owners have issues getting the end links off. We had to drill the old one off on my friend's car because it was seized on and then we were at the mercy of the local stores for a replacement. Also, they do wear out over time, so replacing aging ones is a good idea. Always do them in pairs.

The lower springs that I installed in my car are lower than the ones you installed, I don't know if they will be different or if they are weaker and that is why the car lowers more.
