In this episode we spend a day at the British Ironworks Centre, located just outside of Oswestry in Shropshire. The Centre is not far from where our home was before we decided to sell everything and move into our van Trudy.
This was our first time visiting the British Ironworks Centre, because as usual we used to be so tied up with work and looking after our house that we rarely had time for days out!!.
The sun was shining and it was another glorious day in the British countryside. The British Ironworks Centre is free to enter but you are encouraged to pay £1 (or more if you want to) to a local charity. After your small donation you get a membership card to the centre which gives you quick entry next time you visit and you get discounts in the coffee shop - Yes and it's also valid for the wonderful cakes that they sell !!!
The Centre became more famous when they created the Knife Angel and it appeared on the news. The knife angel is an amazing sculpture made from 100,000 knives. The knives were collected from police stations around the UK, many of them were used in actual crimes ! The knife angel is a statue against the growing knife crime problem in the UK and the aim is to persuade the British Government to display the statue in London's Trafalgar Square. An amazing piece and one that must be seen !
There is however so much more about the British Ironworks Centre than just the Knife Angel - there is a large gorilla made from spoons and the museum is filled with fascinating pieces of art - from the small to huge statues. We have tried to show you a selection in this video but will only be a small percentage of the total on display.
If you are in the area then this is a great place to visit or if you are looking for something unusual to buy for you house then you will find something here.
