Wow! There is such a diversity of landscape in Turkey. The landscapes are so lovely; they remind me a bit of Wyoming (but greener) and lots of glacial till. I love that goose is the regional food. And the people, as seems to be typical of Turkey, are so warm and friendly. Awesome video.

Even though Turkey is in Mediterranean region, east side of Turkey has elevation like 1.5-2 KMs from sea level due to the tectonic activity I guess. So elevation changes everything dramatically.

There is similar fencing here in the states to keep the wind from blowing the snow heavily onto the roads. I was reading about goose meat and it's very high in protein and a good vitamin B source as well as other vitamins. Loved seeing those birds of prey, a bird watcher's paradise. You find some of the nicest family run restaurants on your travels and how nice to be given a little concert as well. I was watching one of my favorite TV cooking shows yesterday and of all things, he was showing how to make gozleme. I'm going to have to try making a gluten free version some day. Loved my Sunday video today, thanks you two!

Actually, this fence has several purposes. -Preventing wild animals suddenly running into the road asppecially wild hourses and bears. so, in the dark safer for drivers and wild animals. -snow / wind / dust breaker , sometimes strong wind or snowstrom owerturn the trucks because of geographical situation of this road. -prevent the road from freezing in winter. Not %100 but helps.

I am from Ardahan I am so happy to see you here Chris and Marianne! I been flowing you since the beginning of your journey!!!! Just to let you know Ardahan is much colder than Quebec or Ontario. We have very harsh winter here, Lake Cildir completly freezes and people ice fish in the lake :) The fish is VERY tasty it tastes more like chicken! Our village is incredibly rich with bird population, 182 different bird species lives here this place is a bird watchers heaven!!! Also we got registered 600 hundred endemic flowers and plantation just specific to this region. Since , our cows graze freely this is why their meat and the dairy products produced from them are very good quality! Almost no farming as a result no pesticide use, so the land is pristine and very clean . Goose is a delicacy here in Kars , people prefer cured goose meat over cow or lamb meat! Before cutting the animal they force feed the bird with walnut then cut and buried under snow! I hope you enjoyed your stay and safe travel ! 🙏🧿🙏🧿🙏🧿🙏🧿

Dear Chris we call fences "snow fences". In winter time Eastern Turkey receives heavy snow. And if it snows with wind the snov accumulates on the road. To prevent this, they build these fences. :)

Snow fence, mainly against the prevailing wind, to stop the road being overwhelmed by drifts. Great vids. Not unusual to see the geese, as little known fact is that, at lower heights they explode due to differential pressure.

10:53 Bu kış Bolu da -32 dereceye düştü bir gece. Ama soğuk diye yazın gezmeye gelmeyin, tüm güzel manzarayı kaçırırsınız. Bolu'nun mevsimi sonbahar.

Hi Chris and Marion, When it comes to tourists in Turkey, it is mostly understood that they are constructive tourism. In fact , many Turks have been making visits to this region in recent years. Especially by train. I didnt been, but it is similar to Scotland in your country. Have a safe journey

Hi there! Greetings from Idaho, USA. I love your channel. I am amazed how much of Turkey, excluding the ocean coast, reminds me of Idaho, and Wyoming, and parts of Utah. Those odd fences you were asking about look like snow fences, used to keep snow from drifting across roads in drift prone areas. By the way, goose meat is excellent. It reminds me of Roast Beef. It is dark meat, fine grained and lean. Enjoy!

I think those white fences are to keep the snow off the road - I noted that the gaps were kind of crossed over each side so the gap wasn't a wide drive through... (probably someone else already said that!)
