As a child, and again later as a teacher, I did the crayon shavings between layers of waxed paper to make "stained glass" ornaments. We also would preserve pretty leaves in the fall. I had forgotten about that until your video. Now I want to try your ideas with cereal bags. I wonder how pressed flowers would do? So many options! Thank you!

I've been obsessing with fusing plastic bags for the last year so I'm super happy that you did. A lady I know in Hawaii has created a whole business from fusing plastic and fishing debris found on the shores and that people donate to her. She does pouches, jewelry and more. There really are a ton of possibilities. I actually thought those large tags you did here look beautiful and would make gorgeous page marks or decorations for a large pocket, or something you can hang...so many ideas. By the way, you can get all kinds of awesome feeling material from fusing grocery bags or whatever clear plastic you get from packaging. You can separate by color or play around and mix and match. I hope you continue to show how you use everyday stuff from your home to encourage upcycling. Thank you. I love your personality and am so glad I found you. I watched your story video and was very touched by how brave and open your are to your vulnerability. I commend you. Thank you for encouraging my creativity again. Big hug.

We used to iron autumn leaves between sheets of waxed paper and then tape them to the window with black electrical tape to make "stained-glass" window art. It's very much the same starting point but you took in a bit of a different direction. Very nice.

I think the tags would be a perfect size for a gardener to make pouches for seed saving. You could use the package the seeds came in to fuse between the cereal bags. I save seeds from my flowers and vegetables every year. This would be a nice and neat way to store them. This looks like a very fun project. Thank you.

Love your ideas Natasha. I have also done the crayon shavings using waxed paper. Then if you really want to use up all your paper scraps instead of throwing them away. Cut your paper scraps into thin strips (or use a paper shredder) then cut the strips into small confetti size pieces and sprinkle these between the cereal bags or waxed paper, with or without crayon shavings. Can again be used for window ornaments, journal covers or any of Natasha's ideas. Lots of fun everywhere. :D

What a fun and creative process! I kept thinking that the napkin images could make functional small note pads if paper for writing was folded and sewn, or attached in another way, to the top of the image. It could then be tucked into a corner, side pocket, belly band, etc. Of course, the paper would have to be cut into the shape of the image, but hey, enjoy the process!:) Thank you for sharing your talent and working in a way that is encouraging to others.:)

Maybe it would be interesting to cut holes in a piece of paper, or punch shapes, or borders. Then when you lay the plastic over to fuse it, it will fuse in the cut out sections of the paper. what a fun project! When the top fuses and the bottom doesn't, couldn't you just flip the whole thing over (like grab the bottom parchment/cooking paper and bring it to the top)and then you could leave the iron on medium instead of high heat and a chance of scorching.

Fabulous idea! And I love it! Of course, different plastics melt and deform in different ways. I had some vinyl sheeting, and some other kind of plastic sheets or rolls and I did some experimenting with them. One of them kind of did what the cereal bags do: it shrunk as I used the iron over it, but more severely... when it cooled it had a wonderfully organic pattern of puckering that made a great texture stamp that I used in acrylic painting! Even the less extreme bubbling of these bags would make a great texture stamp. There are so many good ways to reuse plastic, we really need to do what you did and make something new, fun, functional, and beautiful out of what is otherwise trash. Great ideas!!

@@BonesAndButtons I looked up the name of the type of plastic used in cereal bags: "Most cereal bags are made with high density polyethylene, also known as HDPE or by the recycling number 2. Known as “film” in the recycling industry, this type of plastic can be remanufactured back into plastic bags." (from a recycling website). You can use this information to help find this in rolls or sheets and know that it can be useful in this application!

Glue paper on the back of the tags. The random shaped ones could just be cover decorations. If the napkins don't face the right way to make a journal cover, just cut into 4 squares and lay two side by side facing the right way and fuse, as if they are one piece. Any paper image can be sandwiched, even thin fabrics. Good fun and love the crinkle sound and crinkled look. 😘

Wow!! You just made my day. I think the cereal bag would be a level of protection for whatever you laminate or press between the cereal liners. Fantastic!

I loved this idea! I make little journals for my granddaughters that have blank paper for writing and drawing. I love the idea of using "kid" napkins for this! Thanks for sharing your creativity! 🤗

I love, love, love all the ideas! I don't eat much cereal but the bags in my snack-cracker boxes should work although they are much smaller...

I’ve rewatched this video and still love the idea. Something I want to try is putting the fused bag inside of 2 layers of fabric to get that wonderful sound.

Oh, my, am I in trouble?? 😉 I just retrieved the bag we emptied this mormimg, and washed it out. I will use my large silicone sheet to do this. I think I will love doing it! I can't wait! I have a few napkins, already. I can never have too much of watching you craft.😊

Natasha, I was just thinking of buying a laminator, but wasn't sure how much I really needed one. Your project has given my an alternative at least for now. Thanks for keeping me in budget. Love all your ideas and videos.

I love this idea of fusing cereal bags in fun and useful projects with added benefit of preventing them from going to the landfill. One project that I would like to do is a pouch with foldover flap that velcro's closed. This pouch would hold one or two masks so you always have one to throw in your purse or backpack.

I LOVE this video! It's an excellent example of creative thinking: you had an idea to share then allowed your ideas to take you other places still using the technique you intended. This is how I create too- never know where an idea can take you! Thanks for sharing your genuine self!

I loved all of it and have used cereal bags for a while now, I love the feel and sound of the material . For the tags that seem to have no real purpose as you say, they do - aside from looking beautiful, you can write messages or sentiments on the back side with sharpie pens :)

I think this is a very beautiful and unique idea. Like you I especially liked that last little Journal that you made. What wonderful gift some of these things would be. The pretty envelopes would make very nice packaging for small gifts for birthdays and so forth. I also think that if you had napkins that were meant for baby showers they would make adorable adorable journals for a new baby gift our baby shower gifts. I always look forward to your videos because you are so creative and inventive with recycling which is my number one reason for doing junk journals

Great ideas, thanks! I am a quilter and have used cereal bags for years in that craft. I also use in my kitchen for pastry making and things, it is much thicker than regular wax paper. When I am fusing things for paper crafts I like to fuse one side, then flip it over and fuse the other.

as a child in the 1960s, we would collect fall leaves and put in between wax paper and make a placement. I'm 62 now and it's still one of my favorite memories of childhood. Thank you for bringing it back.🥰🍂🍁🍂🍁

For the tags you're not happy with, what about sewing a pocket onto them (maybe out of acetate, your cereal bag off-cuts or something more or less transparent)? Then a small card (for a gift) or a journal card could be tucked in. As a gift tag, they are reusable...just remove the little card and tuck in a new one. This tag could end up travelling far away! I like this cereal bag project. As always, you are clever and your work is elegant. ❤
