I have been collecting arrowheads for 45 years . Only found a few in the creeks . Look in the plowed fields along the creeks , also look at clear cuts near water and around new sub- divisions . Also if they drop lake levels along the river look the river banks or if the rivers fluctuate , and if the river comes up after heavy rains check the banks when the water drops . Just some hints to help find an artifact . The creek you were in had way to much sand washed into it , very hard to find them there . If you get a chance check out some of my videos .

A good general rule of thumb: if you can SAFELY see a snake’s head, triangular shaped is venomous oval shaped is non-venomous. But don’t get too close trying to check.
@divindragon1302
@divindragon1302 5 жыл бұрын
Also if they have cats eyes they are venomous, if they have round pupals ther're non-venomous., Except for the coral snake, remember ( if red touches yellow your a dead fellow, if red touches black your ok jake )

Those snakes do look like water moccasins, they are also called cottonmouth and they are VERY venemous. But like any other snake, just didn't bother them and you'll be ok. Wouldn't hurt to carry antivenom next time knowing that you are very far from a hospital.

I highly recommend learning how to identify the venomous snakes in your area! Especially since y’all are always doing things outdoors. I know y’all aren’t in Texas BUT you are in the south so we share a lot of the same snakes. There’s a Facebook page called “What kind of snake is this? North Texas educational group” and it has taught me how to identify venomous snakes very quickly which puts your fears at ease😊 they have people from all over in it(over 108K members). Also if you post a picture in the group of a snake they ID it within minutes too!

Not sure what kind of snake it was however a good way to tell if a snake is poisonous is looking at the head of the snake, if the head flows right into the body of the snake it most likely isn’t poisonous, if the head is shaped more like a triangle or has a defined jaw (or what looks like cheeks) than it’s probably poisonous because they store their venom in there cheeks. Just thought it would be good information for next time!

Yup, that was a water moccasin. Don't mess with them and they won't mess with you. When I was a kid, I had 2 of them swimming towards me when I was in about 4 feet of water. I just stood my ground and didn't make any sudden moves because, well, what the heck else could I do? When they got about a foot away, they just split and one passed on each side of me only a couple inches away. They were both at least as big as that third one you saw.
