This is great. I've recently realised my living-room mix position stinks, invested in a reference mic, made some REW observations and confirmed what my ears were telling me. 2 days ago I started ripping up my spare room to turn it into a more controlled space. Tons of watching videos (thanks Jesco and Graham, Lonely Rocker etc) and now you've done this series at EXACTLY the right time for me. Thanks guys :-)

Nice video, thanks for sharing. I'll just add that 38% of the room length (a rule of thumb coined by Wes Lachot when designing rooms with flush mounted monitors) puts the listening position almost exactly at the null of the 4th harmonic of the length axial. With treatment it's less of an issue as this will be pretty high and easily treatable, but why start there if you can have a better starting point? I find about roughly between 31 & 32% is a better starting point as it is between nulls and peaks of the first four harmonics.

If you set up a room and later add a sub speaker does it mean you have to do go back to the start and set up again with the sub added OR can you leave your set up as it is and simply find the best place for your sub?

When you were first figuring out where to place the speakers, did you use the room sim feature in REW at all? Would be great to see a video on that from you two.

What are the tolerances for moving my head at listening position? Help me understand the difference between 10 cm head movement versus 10 cm repositioning of speakers. Or are they equivalent?

I have just built a cabin 12feet by 8feet by 8feet night once boarded. Installed sound rockwool 50mm all over. 12.5mm plasterboard all over so a rectangle room. This will by my music studio for making music and dj’ing from. I’m wondering what sound acoustic is needed for this size room. What would be the better option to start with boards or corner bass. My speakers will go in each corner of the 8foot wall I assume would be better.

Graham, did you add a sub in the end? Where the 7 inch enough bass?

This series is fantastic. Thank you. A hopefully quick question....at 42.30 you swap to showing the frequency response all the way up to 20khz. There is a massive fall off from 15khz onwards. This is something I just observed when taking my first measurements. Is this normal? If so, why - shouldn't things be flat (or at least flatter) all the way to 20k?

Just skipped through. What are the speaker stands here? The look like solving the problem of a too wide desk that forces your stereo triangle somewhat larger than ideal. Looking expensive though

Im trying to find more space for bass trapping - its a very small room and I have a big bump at 50hz. One place I havent put any bass traps is under the speakers/where the speaker stands are. I'm thinking about building some large bass trap squares undearneath the speakers instead of the stands. Any ideas if that is a totally crazy idea? I've not seen anyone do anything similar....

I got a 9x10 room. Am I doomed?

Hi guys, I just looked up the amroc page and this is what my room tells me.... can you please advise if it's decent and wehre I need to concentrate my efforts? I'm new at this and figuring out the whole room modes thing isn't easy... As seen in the amroc page, room is 10.9' L x 9.25' W x 8'H. As far as acoustic panels... I am currently building two bass traps for my front walls. Like Graham, I have a window in front of my desk. The bass traps will be on each side of the window. 7' tall by 24" wide on an angle of 12" thick on the side walls and 6" thick on the window side...
