Ongoing conflict in Sudan is pushing families out of their homes in search of safety. More than a million left the country between the escalation of hostilities in April 2023 and May 2024.
Sudanese families crossing the border into Chad arrive with only what they can carry. "We traveled for three days to get here," says Abdou, cradling her 6-month-old daughter, Roumane, at a UNICEF- supported nutrition unit in Chad. "We arrived hungry with nothing to eat."
Health workers at the center treat hundreds of children for malnutrition each week. Most children suffering from secure acute malnutrition can make a full recovery if they receive proper care and a supply of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF).
