Although NMES is used for muscle re-education, it is also an effective way to reduce spasticity prior to therapy or fitting a hand splint.
* Please do not replicate this approach unless you are a clinician with sufficient knowledge on this topic.
** Pay close attention to the contraindications of this approach. Must be avoided in patients with a history of cardiac dysrhythmia, and seizures or patients with implantable pacemaker and/or defibrillator.

Extensor Carpi ulnaris is padded. Because the pad is too wide, the adjacent extensor digitorum muscle is also covered by the pad, so both moves at the same time. The problem of muscle adhesion cannot be addressed because the muscle moves at the same time. Based on my experience as a 4-year ischemic stroke survivor, I cut the TENS pad by 1.5 inches so that the target muscle can be isolated and it can glide over the adjoining fascia tissues or muscles.

Shouldn't the cathode (black) be the more proximal one?
@StrokeSciences
@StrokeSciences 5 жыл бұрын
Good observation. With the conventional electrode placement, the tonicity in index and thumb would increase. By placing the cathode more distally we could achieve a better range and less hypertonicity in the thumb and index would occur. I suspect, placing the cathode more distally could stimulate the deeper situated extensors (polilcis brevis/longus and the indicis). The main objective is to stimulate the nerve supplying the motor units (in this case the radial nerve) and the muscle groups using separate electrodes.

Botox (a few years) & Bacolofen (last several years). Does not work, in the long term. Severe Traumatic Brain Injury, car accident, 39 years ago, when my body was 34 years old. Alibaba is delivering EMS machine similar to the one in this video. Models can be as low as $20 USD. Video shows the older slide in adhesive pad. Since I have only my right hand working, my order is for the press-stud adhesive pad. These are lower cost, easier to store than the older slide in pads, which require two hands to attach.

@StrokeSciences
@StrokeSciences 5 жыл бұрын
No she did not. Spasticity is a chronic and persistent issue after stroke, but using NMES can reduce contractures and atrophy, also could help with re-learning process.

Very doubtful she would be cured with a tens unit in one attempt after stroke.

most of the time there would also be muscle relaxants being utilized by the patients to help with the tight muscle tone in the affected limbs of patients such as baclofen or tinzanadine with mixed results being shown using pharmacology in treatment of limb spasticity!!

@@sauravmisraz yea.. I figured I try and give you hope. I've never had Botox injections.. I take baclofen muscle relaxers.. they work for me.Sometimes. at first docs had me on Flexeril and that did nothing.. I've seen in bad cases you can get the baclofen pump install.. it has done wonderful things for cerebral palsy .. but unfortunately spasticity is a life long curse we will grow od with and that's the part I don't look forward too.. because waking up everyday with stiff knees and shoulders don't sound like fun.. if I'm alive at 60 + I'll probably be bed ridden praying for death.. for now I've got 8 more years for my daughter to graduate.. and become a little more mentally stable in this fucked world..

If endogenous neural stem cells (NSCs) can't be triggered for regeneration, all physical rehabilitation seems to be of little help. Central nervous system definitely has enough endogenous adult stem cells for repair of damaged nerves and neurons. God's mercy nano-medication should be the last-ditch treatment for stroke and can cure stroke. All glory belongs to God !
