A better way to remove the bushings is to heat up the subframe around the bushing till the rubber starts to melt, then just hit the whole thing out with a hammer, took me about 30 to remove all 7, really easy

That 's some true E36 love over there (beats engineers at the BMW dealer for sure)! Paintjob looks good. If you can't get all rust out, you can get a converter over it. I work at my E46 coup and my E36, this really gives me some inspiration to go on, keep up the good work!

Just replacing the old bushings to even stock Factory new ones would have improved the ride immensely. I'm worried that having all poly bushings back their is going to create a very rough ride and every vibration is going to transfer and you may not like it. It will definitely stiffen everything up and you're going to feel it for sure! ...but if that was a daily driver, you might regret hard poly bushings. Just my humble opinion.

Great work. I'm wondering how the paint would hold up in the long run. I did a bunch of frame braces for my Maxima and rattled can it, few weeks later the paint started to chip off despite the careful paint prep. I would seriously get it powder coated, especially when you already invested a ton of time and money for new parts too. To cut down on the cost, clean it as good as you can, especially the rust so that they don't have to bead blast them too much and look for common high demand color. I'm also in the process of doing similarly and plan to powder coat the sub frame, the control arms, trailing arms, and the diff housing.
@MomentofZed
@MomentofZed 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed, would have farmed this out for bead blasting/powdercoating and saved a ton of work.
@TreatsOnTheStreets
@TreatsOnTheStreets 2 жыл бұрын
Totally. The paint is holding up fine but powder coat would have been much better. On my list for things to do in the future. If you dont mind the extra cost and you'll be keeping the car for a while then go for it.

did the paint dry/cure ok? spray painting outside with freezing temperature would concern me a bit, but great job, I wonder if BMW have a tool to remove the bushings?
@TreatsOnTheStreets
@TreatsOnTheStreets 5 жыл бұрын
There are bushing removal tool sets that would work but they can be a pain to work with as well. I definitely cut some corners painting when it wasn't very warm out but that was really my only option and so far it has held up ok.

You really don't need to burn out the bushings. Just heat the outside metal for about a minute then whack them with a hammer. They will pop right out.
