EMBL is researching the impact of human activities on diatoms - tiny sea creatures essential to life on earth. They produced massive amounts of oxygen, soak up carbon dioxide, and are critical components of the ocean food chain.
EMBL group leader Flora Vincent explains the importance of diatoms, and why large scale research projects like EMBL TREC are necessary to help improve our understanding of life along Europe’s seas and coastlines.
