This explains why all the trees look wrong in games. Trees don't just "grow randomly" and uniform. They grow facing the sun, they grow in a uniform manner up and out.

These trees are not optimized for gaming. Especially on the switch, it matters how much geometry you have on each tree, and trees generated with this don't really care, as they're being rendered out over an extended time anyway.

@@HollowRoll In fact, reusing the exact same shape for the trunk AND all branches, but all just arranged smartly with enough math, could be very efficient to store and load.

@@Aztonioyou don't even need to store them. Generate on the fly from a seed and height limit+ collision data, preferably generated on the GPU.

How do you know how far from the trunk base you are for all the branches ? I know using the spline parameter I can get the info for a single curve, but then i'am stuck with the disconected sizes. Any of you other videos explaining this ? Loving it btw!

You need to know where your branch is starting on the trunk and add that to how far along the branch you are, repeat for smaller branches

Be careful, while using this method if you try to render too many of these highly detailed trees at once, (every leaf is modeled for gods sake) it’s going to cause some MAJOR performance issue.

Spent ages figuring this out myself to make a procedural tree in grasshopper last year when i could have just watched a video like this :( Smart using the distance from the trunk to determine branch radius, i did the oposite, starting that the tips and working backward but that caused occasional artifacts where branches connected
