Tree spirits are wonderful to work with, but how can you start connecting with them? Today we're going over some of the ways you can connect with tree spirits, the methods I have found particularly useful in my own practice and ways you can work with them in your magickal practice.

This video is not to say that you cannot work with the Ogham if you don’t have access to the trees, only that it may be more difficult as you cannot connect with them directly. If you still wish to then you can, but it may be easier to connect with tree spirits you can access directly in your area.

I've an old Green Ash tree that sits right next to my house. When I moved in both my husband and I were immediately attracted to it. We've always gathered up fallen limbs from it and made wreaths. Several of our friends have come and buried pets near it, and we have even bult an altar near the tree where we worship Hecate. The relationship is on going and some days it talks more than others, and some days it sings. I'm so glad you brought up working with tree spirits. Thank you so much , Justin.

I splutter laughed when you said birches are chatterboxes. I have a staff purely because I kept getting nagged by a silver birch to take the branch he dropped during a storm a couple of years ago. It turns out it's the perfect stang for me and I've found my craft has had a much more traditional English folk magic flavour since then.

I am so glad this video dripped into my suggested feed today. I have been questioning my sanity the last 4 days. I have been trying to build a relationship with the trees around me for a few months now. Talking to them and giving them energy on my walks with the dog. Then 4 days ago when I took my wife to Nursery for her birthday to pick out plants for the house. I was using my claircognizants to pick out the ones best for her or the house. It was great practice and she even joined in. Everything was going pretty normal, aside from to people walking around a Nursery feeling the energies of plants. *laughs* One of the plants, the one with the strongest pull so far that day, was over with the trees. When my wife picked it up, I could sense it was very happy, but then she set it down and said we had enough plants. ...then I could "hear" it, more I just knew what it was saying not actually hear it. I kind of just stood there and stared at it. Tried clearing my energies, but no it could still here it saying "No! Take me home. Take me home!" Over and over again. I did the only sensible thing and told my wife that that plant was talking and that it REALLY wanted to come home with us. Having no reason to doubt my newly found witchcraft, or now in hindsight perhaps she just REALLY wanted the plant. *laughs* she picked it up and added it to our wagon. But that kind of opened the floodgates. The other plants figured out I could hear them and excitedly started chatting. They helped pick out the pots they liked, and it was a pretty giddy and fun experience! And I'll tell you right now, yes each plant has its very own personality. And some can be VERY demanding and needy. *cough Sassy cough* (Sassy is the name my wife gave the first one who spoke, but she has since changed her own name to Prince Sassy because she is better than all the other plants we bought) But it didn't just end there. When I got home, all the trees I had been building relationships were able to communicate with me. Most are very chill and glad to help or just chat. One, a maple, doesn't like me, like at all. I figured out that when I was around 10 years old I had taken a hatchet to it in an attempt to cut it down. It left a 2 foot long terrible scar. I feel awful about it, but the maple doesn't seem in the mood to forgive me a y time soon. I accepted that. I've tried talking to other things, like Queens Anne's Lace and blackberries and even grass I think, and while I can feel energy, They don't seem to have a "voice" of their own. Which very much surprised me. The house plants explained, in that way when you are explaining something obvious, that obviously they don't talk, their flowers. *shrugs* as my wife pointed out, so are many of them, and how does that aggect the grass or more to the point the blackberries, I do not know. But they only seem able to explain with words I am familiar with, so perhaps I just don't know the right words to get it.I will have to study botany to increase my vocabulary it seems. And while all this sounds farfetched, don't worry the plants constantly reassure me I am not insane whenever I ask myself that. *laughs* 😅

I have developed a special bond with a huge Tuart tree which is a type of gum tree here in Australia. Just by touching and talking to it on my daily walks, one day I touched it and got a mighty electric shock in my left arm. A few months later I was diagnosed with breast cancer in my left breast and had a mastectomy and lymph nodes removed, I believe it was trying to warn me. That tree has since given me healing if I had any aches I would ask for healing and by the time I got home it was gone. It’s given me it’s name, visions, words and so much love. I’m alright now and when I could start walking again it gave me the words BAD GONE in capital letters over the Cho Ku Rei Reiki symbol which I didn’t know was a Reiki symbol until I was randomly scrolling through Facebook one day and saw it. I have made Ogams out of wood left at its base, and have a branch hanging in my office I absolutely love 💕 that tree.

I AM so connected with trees & have lost beautiful huge old tree friends here in Hollywood due to gentrification, trees older than the neighborhood & it devastated me so badly not only cause of the animal habitat which included generations of birds & critters, but the remaining wood spirits & fae in my neighborhood. I named my tree friend “Dragon” cause he was a weeping willow who grew out diagonally and had two main branches that formed what looked like dragon wings. I’ll never forget him. Currently I’ve found a Brugmansia (Angel trumpet) tree & she is HUGE & so powerful, I think I’m the only person in the hood who realizes how magical she is & I visit her regularly & tell her how beautiful she is, I named her ELPHAME. She has given me some of her fallen bells & fallen wood twigs (which I’m making into a wand) & just handling them gave me a bit of a buzz (she’s extremely fragrant & psychoactive) she even enters my dreams! I love her !!! 🌳 🌷Male-Witch music artist & tarot reader here in LA USA with my familiar rabbit 🐇 PierrO, BLESSED BEEZ 🐝 I love your content!

I love her content too, and I also love your comment. While I've always held trees in high regard, and I've found my most spiritual self in the forest, I've been guilty of not taking the time to stop and form a connection to any specific tree since I was a child. I'm going to change that beginning today.

My first connection with a tree was long before I new about witchcraft or connection with spirits, and before I knew anyone who believed trees had spirits! When I was a kid/teen there was an Ash tree in our yard and I would go out there to enjoy peace and quiet. I would climb into it and stare at the sky or the leaves and branches. And the connection just happened. And even though no one I knew back then would have validated it, I could feel that! I could feel answers to questions, I could feel the love coming from it. (I only recently found out that I’m some folklore Ash trees are said to be protective of children too) and I would go to it just cause I enjoyed the time, or when horrible things would happen and I would go to it to feel safe, to cry, etc. and I remember the first time I felt it’s sadness. I was surprised. And worried. I hadn’t been able to spend time with it in a long time. And my life/responsibilities have taken me away from it a lot. It died, and most of the big branches fell, or had to be cut because they were falling. It was absolutely heart breaking. I saved many of the fallen branches, and I am trying to preserve it and keep it with me. The stump is still there, but it’s not alive. There’s another tree that’s been growing beside it and I have a relationship with that one. It’s definitely a different spirit but I love it. I have to harvest from it in order to keep the berry/nuts from weighing down the branches and hurting them. And it always feels so happy when I’m out there with it

Made some amazing tree friends back at university, unfortunately they were all killed to pave new side walks. They left them there to wither in the sun, I swear I heard their screams, couldn't be on campus and I eventually left that school. Sometimes really sad things can happen to our tree friends, but please don't be discouraged because other trees might be able to pick up on how you loved those that fell. Also sorry for dumping and rambling.

I remember connecting with a tree's spirit as a child long before I ever even knew about witchcraft, and I didn't even know at the time what was happening. It was a very large tree and at the base where the tree met the ground, there was another stump. It was obvious that the stump shared the same roots as the large tree. As a child, I didn't understand this but I felt very drawn to the tree and the stump connected to it. I stood on the stump and was overwhelmed with a feeling of grief and loneliness, and something compelled me to hug the tree. After that day, I never felt that feeling with that tree again. The feelings were always happy after that. Now as a think back, I wonder if the large tree was feeling grief from losing its companion.

I've been hiking a lot lately, and falling in love with the trees around me. There's one in particular that I am always drawn to. Trees have caught me off guard on two occasions. Both times I was under the influence of psychedelics, ( Don't go there ) and just stumbled upon their frequency, so to speak. They made it clear in their own way that they hated not only me but people in general. That has always made sense to me due to their inner - city environment. This was 30 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday. After all this time, I still feel as though I will never know to what extent these impressions were really coming from them. I could have easily been projecting. If anyone has any feedback on this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Trees like people can form feelings about events witnessed. Kids will hit trees, people can do terrible things to others upon them. Forgive them for being guarded, the concrete jungle is rough on all of us sometimes. However some trees will still try to heal themselves from these events. Blackmore's Night has a very good song about a tree in a city park. I think the song is called Hanging Tree. Hope this helps bud.

Ron, I live in the woods, and I have found most trees to be fairly friendly, but I did run across one that was sending out very negative energy! I am not especially sensitive, but I felt it from at least 20 feet away! And I was not under the influence of anything. The land had recently undergone a "tree harvest" and I guess this tree had been very traumatized. I have not dared to go find it again!

Anyway, i stopped for a rest and truly believe i saw a surprised facial expression on this tree, and a vivid thought came into my head saying "OOH i haven't seen a male witch pass this way in years" i know it sounds like lve gone off my rocker, so i went back to the spot two days later to try and find it, but for all the searching, that face had gone. I never found a witch I wanted to subscribe to, as most are dedicated to the dark arts, so I'm glad I finally found one connected to nature. I recently discovered a Tree spirit within myself, and it only makes sense I start researching and practicing work with real trees as well, to deepen that connection and truly get in touch with the innate traits of a tree which I so lack. Listening to you, I guess I'll start connecting with a Nut tree inside my mother's garden, which just like me, isn't very well rooted thus his trunk is very leaned and might falls off in a stronger storm, so I'll first convince my mom not to cut it, then take any steps necessary to prompt his trunk and offer it some extra support since it can't hold itself. Thanks for sharing all of these tips!

I think I made a spontaneous connection with a white willow in one of the only parts of 'wild' nature in my area. I was just drawn to a certain place one day in the middle of winter and there were 2 willows just hanging out. So I sat down in front of one of them, said hi to the other one, and I felt it wanted me to sit between the trunk crossroads on the ground. So next time I was there I did. Anyway I was tracing their bark really softly asking if they were okay with that and a very small piece of bark with moss came off right into my hand. I did ask if I was allowed to take it and it felt like they said it was okay. Anyway, I now have a small piece of bark at my home and I go there to ask of I'm allowed to take nettles from around their trunk if I'm making nettle tea. Not sure if it's a real connection that only took one visit because it sort 9f happened workout trying? I do also have a lot of willows in the garden around my flat building I like to talk to from above so maybe that's where that came from. I think maybe I always loved wind because it makes the trees talk. And I had an obsession with a wheeling willow at my local park when I was little which I thought was because of pocahontas. And the only tarot deck I've connected with so far is a forest themed one. Okay maybe I'm currently in this moment discovering I'm a tree witch. Wow, this comment was a roller-coaster. Anyone who made it to the end of this stream of consciousness, thanks for sticking around 😅

I don't work with trees usually, but I sometimes talk with them. Also I live in the backwoods, I have trees around me all the time, so it's hard not to interact with them. I love pines (joke: pine was my first nanny, when my mum sat 6-month old me under pine during holidays in the forest), apple and pear trees are always giving me "grandma cooking dinner on sunday" feel, rowan is reassuring (I'm not sure it's right word - but it gaves me "it's ok now, you're safe" vibes), oaks are strong but somewhat capricious, they don't like to be ignored and throw acorns and twigs at me if they want to me to pay attention to them, willows tend to be melancolics (in my country dominant is weeping willow so that's understandable), birch straight up hates me, always did

Wow Hearth! That was unscripted? I never would have known. I appreciate your comments regarding working with trees in other parts of the world. Here in the Sonoran Desert (USA), I have found it easier to work with the collective spirit of specific species. For example, we have giant Saguaro cactus, with some venerable individuals that have huge multiple arms being 100 years old or more, reaching a height of up to 40-50 feet. Too spiky to cozy up with for a chat. I hike in a canyon where clusters of individual Saguaros grow on the hillsides. It's too hard (for me) to connect with one Saguaro when there are dozens of all ages and sizes all around it. In my experience, Saguaros are pretty lofty. Wind gives voice to the Saguaros. They make a kind of whispery whistling noise. Birds and animals that interact with Saguaros help me to connect with their spirit (like mediators). Bats pollinate the Saguaro blossoms which flower from late April to early June. A number of birds such as Gila woodpeckers, elf owls and screech owls nest in Saguaros. Another favorite is the water-loving cottonwood tree which lines the local creek. Again, they grow in clusters so it is easier to lean against one that isn't surrounded by mud or covered in ants and connect with them collectively. Fire, flood and drought change the desert landscape and have taken down mature trees and Saguaros I have known. It's like losing friends.

I also have a couple Osage trees that I am building a relationship with. In fact they recently said I can have some old growth thorns for workings.

I have an Eastern Red Cedar, Juniper virginian in my backyard. It took awhile but I feel we have a strong relationship. She has taught me sooo much...but one of my first lessons from Ms. Virginia (I used to call her Virginia but she corrected me) was about my arrogance when interacting with plant beings. I remember the day I finally understood her message, I cried and asked for her forgiveness and thankfully she did forgive me and now I am very respectful when approaching her or any plant beings in Nature. I love her sooooo much.

I have 5 in my backyard and just began connecting with one of them today, but would eventually like to connect with them all. If you have any tips from Ms. Virginia, I would greatly appreciate it! (Ironically, my mom almost named me Virginia 😄)

Great video very apt as our trees are preparing for winter. I started my first communication with a hawthorn sat on its own. I would share my energy with it whenever I walked it’s way. My next time with Hawthorns they encouraged me to take some berries to boost my luck at an interview which worked beautifully I often offer reiki or bird seeds so the birds can bring what the tree needs. Certainly lots to learn.

I have found that certain trees naturally seek my attention. I can sense their energyfield and sometimes them observing me. When I was young we built tree houses, and I know some say that tree spirits often are naturally are drawn to children's play and Invite children to climb and play in them. Also Algernon Blackwood wrote a short story about a man's relationship with trees, "The Man whom the trees loved".

Thank you so much for this! I’ve just been over to one of the trees that are usually stand near and had my first actual chat with it. I let them know that I’m wanting to make friends and that I would like to identify them by their leaf. As I’m asking this a leaf fluttered down from their branch and landed a few metres away 🥹🥰 They’re a sycamore and I can’t wait to build our friendship 🥰🫶🏻 THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO ❤

No wand is more special than this natural one is for me. I’m going to build my own staves from trees in my area and I can’t wait to begin!

I found a black Italian poplar in my local park. Poplars were the kind of trees my farmers grandparents would plant and harvest after a decade, they were fundamental part of their trade and I feel a connection to my childhood through the poplar scent. Since I found this tree I always get so emotional when I get close to him, I worry about having to move (my landlord just evicted us to raise rents basically 😔) because even it's not been long (a month or so) I feel this tree connects me somewhow to my childhood and ancestors and I really wish I could keep close and develop our relationship

I plan to make this a daily practice I didn't know of any of these steps, however I've had 3 trees call to me on their own. One did alow me to take a branch from it for yule last yr (my first Yule) I literally felt it alow me to, n it's not one I spent time with, I did leave it a gift of water and thanked it as well as took bird seed for the local birds in the area. I have a specific tree in my back yard tht as soon as I woke to my spiritual self, called to me, even b4 I understood anything I felt a connection with tht tree and still do. I've given it water, a sea shell and my energy. The other tree is in my neighbors yard...(unpleasant neighbor) with tht one I feel magic coming from it, it calls to my fairy side. I've never been able to do more then look at it and admire it from my yard.

Hi Hearth, I'm so glad you made a video on this subject. I have always felt a connection with trees since childhood. Recently l go often to the same group of trees near where I live to meditate with them and draw those trees in my sketchbook. I eventually want to make tree paintings, The fact I can connect with them on a deeper level is AWESOME ! Are there any books I can read to further my knowledge on this subject? If you know of any you recommend id love to know.

I live in the "Bible Belt" of Tennessee USA... I don't practice Witchcraft myself although I'm a Sensitive and am learning due to my Sensitive Son practicing Witchcraft... Unfortunately here in Tennessee my son and I met a practicing Witch who admitted to being slapped in the face with a Bible and getting her jaw broken... Therefore I don't want to practice with trees and risk someone running up to me and kicking my a$$ and slapping me in the face with a Bible too... 😕😐

I'm so sorry you're in that situation. Personally I find it very easy to conceal what I am doing when practicing with trees, sit under a tree with a blanket and a few snacks. It will just look like a lovely picnic. The snacks can become offerings. Stay safe!

I'm so sorry to hear that, that's awful! But if you really want to work with trees, there are some trees you can buy or grow yourself at home. I've always been attracted to the lemons, I really like them, I feel such a positive and protective energy from them, so I planted a few lemon trees and now I'm so attracted to them, they feel so magical to me, I really enjoy their energy and I use them in most of my spells because they have such a great energy of happiness and protection for me. I grew mine in pots and I keep them in my house, so no one outside my home can see when I'm working with them.

I feel that I should connect with the tree outside my home but he always makes sure a branch catch my hair and sometimes leaves pollen, insects, pine needles there when I walk under it in a hurry. He's either facetious or wants attention. When I put a plaid on the floor, you can be sure he blesses it with (the sticky thing inside). I'm French. I don't know the word in English. He has been there for almost all my life though. He has known my gran before her alzheimer. Never thought about talking about that next to him.
