Just a quick video I made going into the pros and cons of both systems. Personally for me, its all about versatility, and the hang-on provides that for sure but both systems have their advantages too! What do you guys like to hunt out of? Drop a comment and let me know, also why!
Linked below is the video detailing how to make a DIY Lineman's belt, as well as DIY Sportsmans channel. Let him know The WaterHopper sent you there!

I’ve got both. My Vipers are both hopefully still locked to trees and if I sell my Lone Wolf Assault and all my sticks I’ll probably regret it. My Summit MINI Viper is what I’ve been toting to the woods most days, though. For reference I’m only 5’9” but my buddy is a full 6’. He just got his last year and hasn’t toted another stand to the woods since. Most of the limbs I might encounter while climbing are small enough for my little limb saw. It’s a very underrated stand in case you’ve never considered it.

I never considered the mini viper no. To be honest now that I have gone with the climbing stick method I'll probably stay with that. With all the gear I have to setup I like knowing I can climb down fast if I need to. Interesting tho!

That's why I'm looking to switch to hang on and sticks the reasons you said I want to hunt big trees that I can stand in the middle of definitely can't with the climbing one! Very cool stand though I'll be switching to hand on and sticks next year

I used to just use the cheap $40 to $75 dollar hang on stands along with the steel ladders from Menards. They worked fine for me for years but now with my knees going bad I have a hard time carrying a heavy steel stand and the equally heavy steel ladder a mile or more into the woods. Heck I even used to put a fully put together ladder stand on my shoulders and carry it in. Suppose all that may be part of the reason for my knees going bad. I've now switched to steel climbing sticks with aiders and a ring of steps, little small for my big feet to be standing on for hours but I make due. Only thing I think I am going to change for next year is to drill some holes in the steel climbing sticks to lighten them up they are about 5 pounds each right now.

How heavy is your total setup? You should consider running something like mine. I deal with back issues already so I get the pain. Lighter is better. Ballzy carrying in the big stuff.

@@TheWaterHopper I've switched over to a ring of steps so about the only heavy thing I have now is the sticks, but I have a double aider on the bottom step and a single on my second step so completely eliminated my 4th stick out of the mix. Like I said this coming spring or over the winter I'm going lighten those three remaining sticks up a bit with some holes. If I can even get a 1/2 pound off of each of them it will help. I also bind them together and got some backpack straps and put those on the sticks so I can carry them in on my back.

@@TheWaterHopper I even carried a 12 foot tripod stand into a corn field on public once and I'm the only one that saw any deer that day but boy that totally wore me out and by the time I got it setup I was probably too tired to even draw the bow back if any of those deer were something I wanted to shoot. LOL

WOW GREAT REVIEW! I'm a new hunter and just purchased a climbing stand and I am intrigued by the hang stand. So this was extremely helpful. I'm sure once I get a few seasons under my belt, I will eventually want to go to a system that is more versatile and efficient. Question, any reason why you didn't go with a saddle and chose the hanging stand? Thanks for the video

@TheWaterHopper Жыл бұрын
Great question. For me. I went with the hang on for feasibility. And being able to stand up and sit down in any tree basically. The saddle.is great but you are always sitting in some sort of way. Hang on gives you the option to stand up and stretch the legs and I like that. Also you can leave it. If legal. And come back to it all ready for you.

I just switched bk to a climer its easier faster an in my case lighter then a hang on plus sticks unless your spending 1000 bucks

Yea I can definitely see that. I found that the main reason I prefer the hang on is the fact that I can setup my cameras and bow and everything. Then climb back down to get in my warm clothes. Or if I hang it in the morning I can come back to it ready to go for the afternoon. I also really like that I can climb any tree. Most of the areas I have started hunting lately don't have straight chute trees. Only a hang on works in there. I'll say this though. Nothing beats the comfort of a climber without a doubt. Also a larger standing platform works great.

@TheWaterHopper makes sence I use the hang on in Marsh swamp area everywhere else in my area is pretty much hardwood lots of pines which have branches up high so I'm able to use the climber fairly easy both have there perks happy hunting this season

I'm a bigger guy so I love my summit titan but with the trees here it's really hard to find a nice tree. What hang on and sticks would be perfect for me? 5'7 and 320lbs. Been looking at the market and just cannot find anything that holds my wieght.

To be honest with you I'm not sure. But. One creative solution we have done is hang the sticks. And climb. Into the climber. Requires carrying a climber and sticks tho.

Which one sets up faster?
@TheWaterHopper
@TheWaterHopper Жыл бұрын
If you're not filming. The climber. If you are filming. The hang on. Can't explain why but I get it done faster in the lonewolf. But pick a straight chute tree and put them against each other the climber is going to be faster everytime. Filming changes everything timing wise.

It's quicker to use a climber then it is to put up sticks with aiders then a hanger

Next, you will go from a hang on to a saddle. Then, you will go back to a climber and start the cycle all over again. The industry accidentally designed a pattern for cash flow towards hunting accessories.

I believe it. Good thing I still have my climber. I'm always willing to try something new. But when I find something I like I stay with it.

Not as small as the those saddle setups that's for sure. Considering going saddle in the future. But honestly the lone wolf has been great for me. I like having the area to stand and move on the platform. The summit is Just plain huge. But once it's setup it's sooo comfy. Definitely a pain to haul in tho
