Two weeks ago I was in a National forest, in the middle of nowhere and found a Walker pup lying in a ditch. He was very emaciated, malnourished and severe leg wounds to both legs ( looks like he was caught in a snare trap). I brought him home and brought him to the vet. Update: He went for follow up yesterday and vaccinations. He gained 12 lbs. and still underweight. He is much better. Very smart. He is under 6 months old. He is now being trained to live in our home and learning to love my cats.!!! He is a big mush. Loves to be on the couch and lay on me. He will never suffer again🥰

My boyfriends mom and dad has two pure breed pits a male and female (two different breeds) the female came to us already pregnant, and that's how I got my pup Monster which is walker hound and pit, he is bigger then his step dad, and almost bigger then his mom at 4 months old. I jokingly told his mom "Imma keep the biggest pup"..... Me and my bfs mom fell in love with my pup Monster, and wellp..... My boyfriend told em when they were about 2-3 weeks old (learning how to walk) whoever made it through the cutout vent whole in my bedroom door could stay, and Monster was the first one to make it through. At 4 months old he is as big as my pit, german shepherd, great dane, and Catahoula shepherd mix dog was when she was 6 months old. Hes bigger then all my other dogs, and quickly catching up to my pure breed siberian husky (my Husky is head to head with me when he stands on his back legs) I'm like 5'2 and like I said, Monster takes up half my body. I'm excited for my big ole pup to become great as a service dog

Adopted a Treeing Walker Coonhound about 5 months ago age 5 (?) and he is a heartworm dog. Probably more of a dog than I should have gotten as we are on the older side but have 4.5 acres in a rural area. A great dog - he is now just keeping all the creatures out of our yard - nose to the ground, and can howl for hours if left to himself. We use an e-collar fence so running off is not an issue. Only takes a small vibration to get him to come home. Great loving dog.

Mine isnt tri-color he looks like a foxhound. He is white and tan spots and his tail is just long and cracks me up cuz in winter i want to tie an orange flag at the end of his tail he blends in so well. I obviously wont but shoot easier to find him.

We rescued Max from a shelter in 2006. He was almost 2 years old. Our house is set back quite far from the road, so when he would bark we knew someone was coming before we could even see them. Max rarely barked or howled otherwise. He died this year from bladder cancer. He truly was our best friend and we are grateful for every day that we had with him.

Now she goes to every class with me and comforts my students. Yes, she's stubborn and demanding. But she loves people and dogs. The long walks to the dog park and work keep me healthy.

I have a waller hound pit mix, and he trains very well. Food is his favorite, so he has to work for it, just like his water. He has to sit before I place the water down. If he doesn't listen when I train him, I make him go through a lit: Sit, Lay down, Stand, and touch. Sometimes I'll also make him sit and stay, wall across the apartment and say "touch" and he jumps and rushes towards my hand and touches it, and gets one treat maybe two. When he only gets one I tell him "You only get one because you didn't listen the first time" I'm gonna start his task training as a Service Dog. He's learning once a harness goes on him there is no bad behavior, so when He finally gets a "service dog in training" vest he will already know he has to listen 100%. I showed him how to bow only a few times and he can do it as long as I do the signs. Soon he will start to learn emotional tasks as long as tasks for anxiety, like I tried my other Service Dog, once he can get down ignore really well, and gets his shots I'm gonna take him out to the dog park, and teach him there so he will learn to Focus better, and only then will I start taking him into stores. Best places to this? Attwoods, and pet stores are the best places to start off because of all the animal smells

My WalkerHoundDog turns 12 in just a month now. She still has energy like you wouldn't believe. I noticed she doesn't like to jump out of the truck, or into the truck like she used to. However she still can and does. She likes to know where I am at all times, and must "yell" at me every day when leaving in the morning. Or Everytime I leave actually. She is by far the most intelligent dog I've owned. There is no box or container or fence that can contain her. Although not prone to escaping or running off, if the fence is left open, there's a 10% chance she might take a walk without me. She is usually a piece of cake to walk. Often I go late at night and she carries her own leash and sticks beside me. Now the hunter in her is a defining characteristic and runs in her blood. Very little to no training is required if your looking for a good hunting dog. Keep in mind there's not a mean bone in her body and she has never harmed a living creature. However she has an overwhelming innate desire to chase small game up trees, or into corners. She then points and barks.

You are so right on about these dogs. I have a 6 year old female. She is a runner for sure. in fact she wont come back so sadly I cannot take her hunting although her firat owner trained her to hunt with hand signs not vocal. She is a blast we love her so much. I wish the training ive supplied her would have worked to get her to come back to me. I only wish you could have supplied a recording of their belly barks. They sure make some fun noises. Also to note a question , I read that this breed is almost extinct in the US sad they sure are great dogs to have around. I am a huge advocate in pet adoption over buying bred dogs. I actually got mine from a rescue. So glad I did.

I've had mine a little over year. They can be stubborn but they are extremely smart. They need a lot of structure which means balanced training 2 to 3 times A-day. Lots of things to do. 10 to 15 minutes 2 to 3 times A-day everyday. They love dogs and they love people and children and they will try to go to them at every chance. Which means keeping I'm on a leash until they understand the come command a 100%. And understand that does not mean a closed environment but when you're outside with distractions. Do not try to socialize them to quickly they 1st need to learn you are in charge. If you need a good dog trainer on KZfaq I would suggest Robert cabral.

We have a rescue. Named him jesco. He was very neglected, chained up in a shed and extremely thin. Took him a long time to really eat anything. My boyfriend had no idea what he was in for. Alot of hard work, patience and training. We dont hunt with him so the instincts definitely kick in and hes alot to handle. Very loving but loves to get into everything and tries to run away every chance he gets. Super stubborn. But also a good listener. Doesn't really bark too much but he goes absolutely nuts at the river baying. Just wants to swim and fetch all day. Will clear a beach of people haha. Love him to death.

My family has a female, she can bark and howl incredibly loudly if she wants to but almost never does. Big thing to note is that these dogs live by their noses. They’ll run away and they won’t respond by name. Other than that, very well-disciplined (I compare her to a “little soldier” 😂) very easily trained, and extremely athletic. Also very very sensitive. If your current dog is well socialized and have no problems with other dogs, than they should be okay together. I had older Cocker Spaniel (not sure about the age, because he was from shelter, but i would say around 13 years) and i got 8 weeks Labrador puppy. The puppy was little bit too much hyper for the older dog, but the Cocker Spaniel quickly show the small puppy boundaries and since then, there was no problem between those two.

Love your accent Rocadog! Russian? Poppy rescued us 7+ years ago but we just lost her to bone cancer a month ago. She was lost before she showed up on our 100 acres and had no identification other than a blaze orange hunting collar. No telling how long she was lost since she only weighed 40 pounds but eventually stabilized at 56 pounds (after treating her for heartworms). She was absolutely the best dog I've ever had. Wicked smart, unbelievable nose, somewhat cunning, extremely high energy, Alpha female yet very loving in her own special way. Here are a few short videos which give you a feeling for her personality: studio.kzfaq.info/love/6-dd4KiYMzWDQqYsPsuVTwvideos/upload?filter=%5B%5D&sort=%7B"columnType"%3A"date"%2C"sortOrder"%3A"DESCENDING"%7D
