In this painting tutorial I will show you all steps my abstract landscapes go through.
The colors in the video are: Titanium White, Ivory Black and Paynes Gray. You will also see me use watersoluble cryons (Caran D'ache Neo Color II) and Woody pencils from Stabilo.
The paper I use in the video is 140lb/200gram acid free sketchbook paper. But watercolor paper should work as well.
I use acrylic paint from different brands so my suggestion is to just use your favorite brand. If you want to take your painting to the next level I suggest you try and practise as much as possible. I paint a lot of my paintings on paper which is a nice way to save on expensive canvas and storing the finished paintings don't take up as much space either.
This painting video is for beginners who want to take their painting beyond the initial first steps and for more experienced artists as well. I hope you got some value, inspiration and tips for your next painting.

Can't stop watching your videos, but at some point i must take a dip in the pool and try something on my own! I am often scared of starting because as a beginner, the result won't be great. I try to change my attitude, and see the whole thing as a learning process. The key is to have fun and learn. Thanks!

As an art instructor I've been known to say this line often to my students that struggle and want to give up "The painting just needs some more layers. It is not ugly and it's not ruined - it just needs more layers.." I often take my own advice and paint over, adding layers and keep trying...take a break, make a cup of coffee, put on music and telling myself not to get frustrated - it just needs more layers. You can do it Francois! Thanks watching :)

I have just watched your five points to remember! Very helpful especially no five. I’m dying to start again having had no instincts for painting for the last two weeks. Thank you so much. 💕🇮🇪

Brill. I followed your advice and purchased some Woody's . They do indeed make super markings on painted splurges and blend when you want to blend and stand out when you want to make marks. You are encouraging me to loosen up... Ta!

Bravo! Excellent how to video.... YT recommended your channel and I am delighted to subscribe. I, too, am drawn to atmospheric, abstracted landscapes even though I paint BIG abstracts using acrylics. Your channel is a God-send because you use acrylic paints well and achieve wonderful depth through layering resulting in landscapes that seem done in oils. BTW, there are surprisingly few channels like yours; while there are countless channels of (realism) landscape painters working in oils. I will be binge watching your videos this weekend (and 'liking' them all). Cheers from here in Richmond, Virginia USA

Wonderful I’m so glad you found it helpful, James. Thanks for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful and encouraging comment. It really means a lot that others find my videos useful and inspiring. I do paint much larger work on canvas but the process takes days and weeks and would involve loads more filming and editing. But it is certainly something I would love to do at some point in the future :) Thanks for watching! Best regards, Marie Louise

Hi! I love your work and have watched your videos over and over. Thank you so much for sharing what you know, it’s been so helpful. I have a question for you: I know that you like to dilute your acrylics down for the sketches, but please could you tell me if you use the same process for ones you sell? Or do you use the paint neat for these?? I am not used to thinning the paints out, so I’m still learning, but just wanted to know what you do for the bigger paintings. Thanks
