I saw this when I was like 10 years old with my grandparents. It really freaked me out and, even though I knew it wasn't real, I found myself purposely walking in a way that wouldn't be loud or rhythmic. My grandpa caught me at it and, instead of making me feel stupid about it, he just stomped twice and said, "Remember the one that ran into concrete and killed itself? House was built on a concrete slab. Can't get through it."

This is a top 10 film of mine! A very underestimated movie from a filmmaking perspective, the script is tight, witty, well-paced and like you said, strikes that very difficult balance between humor and horror perfectly. It has multiple iconic cinematography moments, packed full of inventive and creative practical effects, a well balanced, memorable cast with a ton of chemistry... on and on and on.

The scene in the basement with burt and his wife is actually a composite, the graboid is a miniature. For a fairly cheesy monster movie it does a lot really well, the relative silence when they approach the building site where the car is underground. The loud fridge being introduced nice and early that comes into play in the town siege. It definitely has some real quality behind it.

The only time that this film legitimately disturbed me and freaked me out when I first saw it as a kid was the Dr.'s death. Hearing him screaming as he is slowly being dragged under, while his wife is trying to helplessly help him, sent chills down my spine. But other than that scene imo, it's a real fun campy film, with so much witty dialogue, and funny character interactions, that it is at the top of the list as far as B movies go. I've also seen the sequels and some of the tv series. While they are fun to watch, they are no where near the quality of this one.

You should check out The Fly (1986). I think it like Tremors is a great example of things just coming together to make a great movie experience. Most people would probably say it's horror or science fiction, but at its core it really is just a great tragedy. Just like The Thing it's a re-imagining of a classic science fiction movie from the 50's, but unlike The Thing, The Fly doesn't enjoy the same level of recognition nowadays, despite being much more critically and commercially successful when it was released, but is more of a forgotten gem.

There are few films that are perfect examples of their genre, where someone created lightning in a bottle and the film basically couldn't be better. Tremors is one. Almost every single beat, line and shot are perfect.

The first one was good, the second mediocre, the rest straight to video garbage. The ass blasters are beyond stupid, it's like a live action Saturday morning kids show. The other sequels are only worth watching out of curiosity. After the 3rd one I can't even remember any of the storylines, that's how memorable they are.

1:56 Is one of the finest foreshadowing scenes in movie history. Earl wiggles of the back of the truck like a worm in his sleeping-bag , its even got little red splits in it like how the last one looks after the impact:) Most people (including me) just notices that the final stampede scene is a call back to the beginning. But that first seen is way more thought-out than just that:) Why is this little movie so god damn brilliant?

You can tell this movie took a lot of inspiration from jaws. Especially with the visual effects like using objects to imply the monster is there without actually having to show the monster. I appreciate that a lot.

Easily in my top 10 movies of all time. Simple premise, perfect execution with clever camerawork and working around their budget to make effects work/look good. Fun characters, alot of set ups that later pay off. I enjoyed rewatching this movie a few months ago faaar more than I enjoy watching any new marvel movie etc

such a classic goofy sci-fi movie - looking forward to this Also, the scene at 5:08 reminded me of the movie "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" with Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio (also a good movie if you haven't seen it) Also Tremors 2 is above average and probably worth a watch, but stay away from 3. I don't think people personally liked it all that much. I know I didn't

I worked at a school for two years with a child with severe autism. He ran off campus and I lost him once. It was a traumatic experience for me cuz I cared about him and felt so afraid and helpless. I tried to watch Gilbert grape years later and I couldn’t get past that scene you just mentioned. I still want to finish the movie but the emotions are so personal for me. I don’t think I can.
@TheDaringPastry1313

@@kf8346 So that part (no spoilers) actually hit you personally, so it was more emotional since you lived it. That makes complete sense why it brought back memories and you had to stop. It happens a few times in the movie, but the movie hits hard on how Gilbert handles these situations, especially with his brother. It's still really well done, at least I think so. Random, but here are two video I saw the other day watching East Idaho News YT channel (I live in Oklaohma). I just randomly found the channel .. They are feel good stories about kids with autism and people treating them with respect. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a9WjmpSbuNmUl40.html and kzfaq.info/get/bejne/otRjhr10zMm-k4E.html :) have a good day. The movie does work out if you want to tackle it sometime.

My sister and I saw this at the discount theater on a Friday night about two months after it was released. The place was sold out ten minutes before showtime and we all had an absolute blast watching, one of my favorite cinema experiences since college. Everyone was shouting “Move! Run! GOOOOOO!!” during the chases and laughing uproariously at the dialogue.

For sure, really the only time that this film legitimately disturbed me and freaked me out when I first saw it as a kid was the Dr.'s death. Hearing him screaming as he is slowly being dragged under, while his wife is trying to helplessly help him, sent chills down my spine. But other than that scene imo, it's a real fun campy film.

Michael Gross and Reba McIntyre played the survivalist couple. He was the dad on Family Ties with Michael J. Fox as his son in the 80s. Which made it particularly entertaining with the contrast of his 2 characters at the same time. And she is the famous country singer. They did such a good job! Brilliant casting. To me the movie was much more about the characters and relationships then it was the actual monsters.
