The Overlap

Күн бұрын

On this week’s episode on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, we are joined by Liverpool and England star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
We join Trent as he returns from injury in the closing stages of the 23/24 season that has already seen Liverpool win the League Cup and in contention to win the Premier League and Europa League in Jurgen Klopp’s final season.
The boyhood Liverpool star reveals what the dressing room was like when Klopp announced his departure, the influence the German boss has had on his career and how much a title would mean to him, the club and city.
At just 25 years-old Trent has established himself as one of the world’s best players and has won every major trophy he’s competed in and following a disappointing 22/23 season he tells how his mindset changed over the summer.
Trent also takes on Gary at darts whilst answering quick-fire questions before finally talking about his After Academy, a charity he set up to help academy footballers who didn’t make it to the professional game.

Gary Neville constantly downplays how good a player he actually was. That says a lot about his character. He’s got his flaws like the rest of us but intuitively you always get the feeling that he’s a genuinely good guy.

People see it as downplaying but I think he’s just being honest, the way he played full back compared to how full back is played now in a successful team is night and day, not to take anything away from him he was a great player, but he would definitely struggle in today’s game.

So much better than most football podcasts because yes Gary has a structure planned but he gives space for the player to fully answer, doesn't rush on to the next topic and let's the conversation flow off on tangents. He also actually listens to the answers when so many interviewers show that they haven't listened by asking a later question that has already been covered.

I need someone like Gary to speak to in every day life about my problems, how refreshing to see someone allowed too speak without interruption.

I can see TAA taking Gary's place when his playing career ends. He's thoughtful, knowledgeable and able to fluently express his opinions. A future killer pundit! Watch out Carra!

Absolutely brilliant. Not often you see an interview where the interviewee asks questions back. Best overlap yet 👍🏻

That was a bloody great interview. Don’t know what it is about Gary but he always seems to disarm whoever it is he’s talking to and gets honest and throughout answers. Great stuff.

Relaxed, honest and up front. How all these interviews should be and like the Stick To Football episodes, are just brilliant. Bloody love these. Class Gary. 👏

When I saw him make his comeback last match, I thought that might make Liverpool fans more optimistic. Conor Bradley has been adequate but he’s too lightweight and untried. A fit Trent is like a beacon of hope for the last 7 or so games.
