Matt, I have to say this. I never would have become Catholic (but I don’t know the future of course) if it weren’t for Catholic channels like yours. The only thing that got me wondering, as a Protestant, if Catholicism was actually true, was watching educational videos on KZfaq and actually interacting with Catholics in the comments sections. I had zero close friends who were Catholic, so these conversations never would have come up. So please know that your channel is important ❤️

Your Protestant friends if they are truly christian they will accept your Christianity as a Catholic. I ran a catholic prayer group for several years and most were actually Protestant and they all learned to have a great respect for Catholics. They experienced Truth rather than the lies said about Catholics. They even learned the truth about the rosary that we see Mary as our Spiritual Mother and see her as living like we ourselves. Some have difficulty understanding that when we ask each other for prayer there’s no difference between us asking for prayer for our brothers and sisters and asking for the Saint’s to pray for us.

If it weren't for social media and KZfaq I never would have converted to Catholicism. I think Matt is dead wrong about leaving social media. For some individuals it's good but as a general rule... No. Catholics should be in every space ministering to everyone. Paul says to be all things to all people.

Both sides have a valid point to make. It is a tool that can be used for great good (evangelization, growing in the faith, and apologetics). But social media has also been engineered to exploit human psychology and be as addictive as possible, so it should be used with great prudence and temperance. Some things that help for example are keeping in mind why you're opening it in the first place (being very intentional), and having very strict time limits on it. Otherwise, it can very easily turn into the Lotus Casino in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

Recently confirmed Anglican here. Matt, thank you for the public voice this platform has provided for the Catholic Church at large. This channel is doing very good and very important work for the Kingdom. Your channel here has become an important and inspiring part of my own discipleship. And I know many more Protestants agree with me, whether they will voice it in the comments or not. I do believe in the ultimate unity of the Christian Church, I pray for healing to her scars and divisions every day. This channel is such an important part of that healing journey! Miracles do happen! Jesus is at work! Thank you from a sister in Christ. And please do not shy away from continuing the valuable work and conversations that 'Pints with Aquinas' is called to have now and into the future.

I think Trent Horn is right about having a level of charity and benefit of the doubt towards the Quran as you would want a Muslim to have towards the Bible, because when I've practiced this it goes really far in making dialogues with Muslims go much smoother, better, and deeper. I feel we come to a deeper level of understanding of each others faiths and gives each other inside access to the intricacies of the others faiths, and it's interesting. Now obviously, this has to be done in a way where we try and bring the Muslim to an understanding of the Gospel, and in a way that isn't univeralistic or relativistic. But it is really fascinating.

Maybe you have that stupid power Matt made up where you can pull your pants down and save the infidels. Or be the beatbox botch that Trent made up and do some kung fu fighting You can do what the heretic JP2 did, dialogue with the infidels by worshiping in their pagan temple. Then kiss koran like he did. This way you really get that smoother, deeper understanding without those ilistics nonsense. Don't do what Christ told you to do and don't do what the apostles did. @@csongorarpad4670 Fair enough. Those are series where I’m anime only, so I wouldn’t be able to speak to their endings. And while I’d have to wait to see how they play out I think that it might be more of a product of Japan being such an interesting nation in regards to philosophy and religion as opposed to being woke. You see that in such a secularized nation there’s this internal struggle for morality and such. While they don’t always land on the mark it’s at the very least interesting to see it play out.

I am very grateful for a lot of content on KZfaq. I listen to you, Matt, and you, Trent, and many other great Christian apologists and commentators that I would not really know about if it weren’t for KZfaq. I live alone and it is great to have you on, far better than television, etc. I learn a lot And am encouraged to know that there are faithful Christians speaking to our culture. It is what gives me hope in the midst of all the turmoil. I am not sure it’s a great evangelization tool, but I think it can be a great learning tool and strengthening tool for those of us who feel alone. On the other hand, I spend very little time on Facebook, and have no other social media accounts. I have never ever been on Twitter. I think it is much more potentially damaging, because of the temptation to post without thinking.

For me, the biggest Achilles heel for a social media platform is when there's some degree of anonymity. For one thing, it makes it easier to forget that there's a flesh and blood human being on the other side of the conversation. For another, it allows you to say or do whatever you want without accountability. Like, if you post on Facebook, odds are, the people who are going to see it are people you actually know, and they'll hold you accountable for it. Whereas, on Twitter or Reddit or something, the poster is just a name, with or without an avatar, and on 4Chan, it's just a random string of characters that changes when you hop into a new thread. Unfortunately, the combination of not seeing the other person and lack of accountability tends to make people worse versions of themselves, not better.

At the 36:00 mark it makes me think about the doctrine of soul sleep. I really was into the idea through college because I learned about Sheol from the perspective of Seventh Day Adventists. Now I’ve changed my mind on soul sleep. If we are a soul, then the material body God gave us would have no impact on our spiritual health. I’m beginning to think that we can’t be just souls with bodies because our connection to the body is critical to who we are. The Catholic understanding of perfect unity between the soul we have and the body we have that help make us who we are also points to the fullness of Christ the God-Man, fully God and fully Man who had that perfect union of body and soul. Thanks for sharing Trent!

Trent, yes! Les Miserables!!! Thank you! I knew I loved you. The most beautiful work of fiction ever!!!! I was so moved by the musical that I immediately asked for singing lessons when I was 12. I've seen it 4 times and I've read the book in both English and French before grade 10. Not sure if anyone agrees with me, but word to the easily bored, there is a huge section in the middle describing the battle of Waterloo and I just skip it. I didn't feel like it added anything to the story. Hugo was writing at the same time as Dickens and they got paid per word, so I think it was just added to stuff the word count. Tell me if I'm wrong. But it is SO BEAUTIFUL, that story has informed most of my post adolescent development, just wonderful. I wish my husband would watch it. Maybe I could get him to read it...🤔

Hugh Jackman looked like Valjean? Hmm mmmm, gonna say no. Of anyone who played Valjean I would say Gérard Depardieu is the closest in appearance. The man is supposed to be huge and awesomely strong. Jackman in Les Mis is no wolverine, and is wolverine even that strong?

To answer Trent’s question, I get a lot from Pints with Aquinas, as well as many other Catholic channels. I honestly feel more equipped to deal with others when it comes to arguing for the Faith. I had to purge many channels from my subscriptions and become picky about what I consume. Perhaps what you should recommend to people is to just reflect on what content you should be watching and what you might be better off avoiding. Same for music, movies, etc. This applies well to KZfaq. I am no longer on any other social media, and maybe one day I will leave KZfaq. But for now, I get a good amount of information that helps me in many walks of life.

Same here. I’m not on any social media and use KZfaq to watch a lot of Catholic material, along with a couple of my hobbies. I still use KZfaq to learn a lot of stuff about a lot of things, though.

Don't wait, life can throw you curve balls and if you aren't Catholic and are above 13 you most likely will need to do RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) to make sure you are making a FREE choice and understand exactly what the Church teaches. Sometimes God will intervene and tell you he wants you to get on with it! That's what happened to me at 19!

You can't get baptised whenever you want in Catholicism. RCIA takes a year. You should probably book that in.

It does feel scary because we used to feel a false safety perhaps. Were we in those times building up the Church militant? Were we growing in our faith? It seems now that we must come to a point of decision. There is no more sitting on the fence. I trust that God is permissively allowing the challenges to grow and develop our faith. All for the glory of God.🙏

31:10 Regarding the techniques of avoiding the fight - that's exactly what I was taught on Krav Maga lessons (and I was a bit surprised this style wasn't mentioned by you, but maybe it's not popular enough around you or you have different reasons). Focus on avoiding the fight while protecting others, defusing possible situations, deescalating the conflicts quickly, and if there is no other option - neutralize the opponent as quickly as possible.

Y'all should try to talk to Chris Williamson. He has a lot of really interesting discussions about the dynamics between men and women, but from a thoroughly non-religous perspective. I think it would be really cool to interface with his perspectives, as well as to show to him and his audience how many of the problems that he talks about have solutions/answers in the Catholic tradition.

@PintsWithAquinas hey Trent Horn I’m Protestant considering converting to Catholicism, I send you a DM on Facebook a while back, but we’re not friends on there so I’m not sure if you would have gotten it. The biggest struggle for me is while it seems like there are a lot of Catholic sounding church fathers, there are a lot of Protestants that will use them to show how they were actually more like Protestants. I recently read a book called Long Before Luther with pages of quotes from early church fathers that sound a lot closer to Protestantism. Do you know of any sources that would deal with misuse of early church fathers?

around 1:45:30 When someone attacks your body, they attack you, but only because your body is alive, i.e., ensouled. If they attack your corpse, then they're not attacking you, because your corpse is dead, i.e., not ensouled, no longer you, and no longer even really yours, no longer even properly speaking human. The principle is, a dead dog isn't a kind of dog, it's a former dog.

@@Malygosblues Yours in what sense? Certainly not in a legal sense. Your mortal remains, like your former earthly possessions, pass into legal possession of your next of kin (or whatever is stipulated in your will or in whatever inheritance laws apply in your case). Question: On what principle do you think your body is yours while you are alive? Follow-up question: Does that principle still apply when you are dead?

1:51:50 I'm from a parallel universe where we took up violence to protect the unborn. And it's a failure. We lost and we took the role of the bad guy. Now, abortion is celebrated, legalized and encouraged. 300M unborn babies are killed a year and is steadily rising. We always think we have the worst situations and we always have the perfect solutions. Most of the time we are brave because we don't actualize our suggestions.

I'm so confused about this corruptionist vs what did they call it, survivalist topic...I'd like them to talk about it more. In the movie Father Stu, it says, "we're not humans having a spiritual experience, where spirits having a human experience" I guess Trent would disagree with that...what does the church say? I 💯 agree that our bodies and the use of them deeply affects our souls and our behavior...I'm just really curious about this discussion.
