Hi Trevor, I'm a fan of yours. I think it would of been fair to make a comparison between the violins that both have an active or passive pickups. BTW, I just got a WAV violin myself and I enjoy playing it. Also to make a comment about your feeling that the electric violin does not need to sound like an acoustic violin; there are people that would like to avoid all the feedback issues that could occur while amplifying an acoustic violin. Also some people would like to practice the violin with the headphones while still getting the acoustic sound. Also, you can get a BTS Barbera bridge and install it on an acoustic violin. Thank you for the video!

Nice and thanks! The NS Design is probably more versatile, but lordy the Wood violin's tone is mighty. Some of that I think has to do with the Barbera pickup which has such a characteristic tone, and sounds good even on a lessor instrument. Also I like that the Wood voilin is simple, no built in preamp or rolloff to color the tone, which gives more flexability to shape further along the chain. But heavy. Both great instruments! Does the NS Design come in a fretted configuration?
@TrevorDick
@TrevorDick 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Harlow, thanks for weighing in, bro! Yes, I was impressed by the sound of the VIper (those Barbera's are impressive pick-ups) although the NS really did hold its own. Although it is nice to have an instrument without an active pick-up, the battery life is long + the active crossover gives that flexibility (a trade off). Especially interesting to see the comparison in the overdriven Rock sound! Yes, you can get fretted NS Electric Violins/Cellos and they work great! My son has the cello. T

Finally an actual player using a legit pedal board and not playing into a crappy fishman amp reviewing two very good 5 strings. I love the low end grow of the viper with that Barbera but I don't think I could stray that far from the natural sound I'm used to so I think the NS is a good compromise.
@TrevorDick
@TrevorDick 5 жыл бұрын
You've got it and get it, Cajunfid! Thanks. Put a lot of work into this video (even though I "ramble" a fair bit, thus an edited version as well) and my signal chain is always the very best it can be so you can get a true indication of exact sound quality (even better with headphones or through a proper sound system instead of laptop speakers 😉). Hi Trevor, must have watched this video a few times over the years. I have the WAV4. Curious about the CR, active (CR) versus passive (WAV) and it’s impact on sound. Also the pizz (CR) versus arco (CR and WAV) and how it enables if at all chop style playing, I release chop is perhaps not part of your playing style. Maybe this is a topic better discussed on your FB group ESP? Thanks.
@TrevorDick
@TrevorDick 2 жыл бұрын
Norman, there is a big "step up" in quality btw. the .WAV NS and the NXT and CR series. The pizza setting is great and smooth for plucking and also works fairly well (a unique texture) for chopping (which I have used on occasion - but not part of my "main thing"). This would be a great question to pose to the @Electric String Players page in FB. All the best! T

I like the sound accoustic violins, but they usually don't come with 5 strings and/or frets. So I guess that's a good reason to go for an electric violin that can sound accoustic.

@@TrevorDick I'm using a 5 string NS through a cello IR from 3sigma. I love the sound, but I don't have as much time to play as I'd like. One thing to remark is that while it sounds pretty acoustic, it still doesn't give me the same nuance as an acoustic violin. Bow pressure, speed and placement make very little difference in tone compared to a real acoustic violin. The upside is that there's less variables that I can mess up.
@hizaleus
@hizaleus 5 жыл бұрын
I can tell you why it is worthwhile for an electric fiddle to sound like a classical acoustic instrument -- you can practice anywhere without getting complaints and a solid body instrument is much safer to travel with, and playing in less than ideal conditions (e.g. outdoors or unheated cabin.)

Hey Jake, that's a personal taste thing. If you are comfortable playing without frets, you may want to get a non-fretted at first. Frets enable you to chord a lot easier, if that is something you are wanting to do? My son has a fretted NXT for that reason and he loves it. T

No I did not see those... but have you sceen this one, The WAV violin in 60 seconds - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z79ni9aql9umY6c.html they covered it in 60 seconds... I just would have like to see prose and cons for each... that's what I expect in a Comparison video! and scripts are a good idea... but you could also just edit it, before posting it. I silt do not think I'd buy either of them, not till I see a good Comparison video... Cheers #fiddlingwithmywhistle

Yes, I've seen the 1 minute videos ... not enough for me (or most) to make an informed decision on an electric violin. I was going for a much more thorough approach - including dry signal comparison, signal chain I was using, etc. etc. T

Not Just that, but he must have misunderstood the toggle settings or have his wiring messed with. The middle toggle is full signal electric sound. Away from you is acoustic and towards you is pizzicato. Yes, pizzicato also sounds good in the acoustic setting. I hope this resets a new interest in the instrument.

Because mics feedback bozo. Also ask electric acoustic guitar players why their unplugged sound sucks.

I am quite aware of that! Not sure what you are referring to in this video, David??? ... and why I sense some animosity here??? T
