Nice job! Well put together video. However there's some details that I feel could have been done better. Respectfully, your edge detail is not great. If you had used a picture frame boarder using a full thickness piece that overhung the framing by the thickness of your facia trim board + 1", you would end up with a nice overhang that doesn't allow water to get at your rim joist. Your final ripped piece would go against the house. The way you've done it (especially with the saw kerf you left in the top of the rim board), you've created a channel for water to collect and pool which will prematurely rot out your rim. And as already mentioned, joist tape would help with the longevity of your framing, especially since there are already holes left in your joists from previous decking.

Thank you for your video, very helpful tips as I have just started laying the first 2 boards of my Trex decking. I noticed some of my deck boards are warped like a banana and I think it will be a struggle to force them straight, so any tips on dealing with that would be helpful.

Glad it’s helpful! You will not have any problems keeping them straight. They are flexible and easy to bend.

I have a problem with my composite deck. My piece at the edge has come loose from one side . Not sure if the installer had installed the edge. What should I do to secure it.

Screws specifically made for composite deck.

So do you not actually need to use the camo lever tool to install this kind of decking?

It looks like it would be helpful for forcing warped boards into place. The composite is easy to adjust. This tool is not necessary.

I agree that it is super hot! For my other deck, I’m just going to rip the whole thing out and do a concrete patio.

just curious, did you check out the joists and if you needed to plane any of them before decking was applied

On a previous deck I ignored a joist that was a little low. I would estimate a quarter inch. The result wasn’t terrible, but it was noticeable (to me at least) and I would definitely recommend leveling it first before laying the decking down.

@@yankeesfan2726 Yes. There is a wave in the deck surface along that joist because all of the planks are slightly lower on that joist. The planks deform and suck down the lower joist when installing the fasteners. It is noticeable when you look at it from the right/wrong angle.
