My old man is 93. Every day is a gift. If I'm considered half the man my father is, then I've succeeded.

The timing of me finding this song and video today is not just a coincidence, but a gift for what it reminded me of - the bond growing up with my old man in rural America. He passed when I was younger back in June 2010 and from that perspective it also makes me miss all the memories we didn’t get to have together in my adult life.

This is coming from a mom.. I’m always apologizing for what my hubby and I didn’t do rite. He tells me mom .. if it wasn’t for your and dads rules. I wouldn’t be the man I am now..He’s 34 with 2 boys of his own now. He is a police officer of 10 yrs now. I tell my husband all the time. If we did anything rite as young kids who made a child. Was raise him to be a awesome man. God bless all the dads. I miss mine so badly. ✨✌️💜🎶

@@thatreadboy I'm not one to give advice, but just be a brother not a father... Assure you it's difficult for even us seasoned dad's to walk the line of trying to be their friend AND parent... Just be his big brother and an ear to listen when he wants to talk, siblings have to be there for each other long after mom and dad have left this world. Nurture that relationship, I wouldn't advise taking on a fatherly role as it may just make him resentful and push you away. He got off the city bus. To cross the street. I must a truck a pickup truck. My baby lay there on the road by Himself he died at 11:57 PM. He didn't have no ID on. Him He had lost it a couple days before. But that night I felt something within me I remember saying God. Please protect Jesse Keep him safe. I went to sleep. I get a knock at the door that morning. Ask me If I knew a Jesse Erwin I said yes, he's my son,, is everything okay? There's been an accident.. I said where he told me. I said what hospital is he at so I could get there? He said I'm sorry to tell you, but your son didn't make it..My world stopped It was. like an echo coming out of the man's voice. Please always tell your children you love them. and that you forgive them? For anything that your child may have done or you have done please .You may not know when it will be your last God bless you

Wow. When my father was alive. I would come sit down with him in his room and say. "Hey dadddy" I did ever since I was 13. When his cancer took my father from me. My mother said "son your dad wanted me to let you know. He loved how you always greeted him. Hey daddy." I never knew how much I loved someone until I watched him take his last breath.

😭 I came across this song and it so describes my Son. When he was growing up on this old farm he would often butt heads with his Dad, chores, rules, etc. My husband taught him to work hard, even if it caused them to argue, fuss and fight over who was wrong and who was right. There came a time when despite the love, he went his own way, and sadly stayed away. October 3, 2014 My husband passed away, and before he took his last breath he said, "I've made peace with him Momma, I Pray he comes home to you someday". 😭 That Day came 4 months ago and it is amazing to see the difference in him. HE IS HIS DADS SON!! He is back on the farm, taking care of things here, owns his own business, cares for his children despite opposition from 2 failed marriages, and I know his Dad is looking down from Heaven proud that he came home to the family that never stopped loving him and Praying for him. I'm not well and he makes sure I am cared for, because he is his DADS SON 💙

This song really hits home. I Lost my Dad in 2012 when I was 25. It’s been a rough ride trying to piece it all together on my own and find my way through life. Watching him take his last breath is something I’ll always remember. Not because I want to remember his passing, but rather to remember how in that exact moment I realized how much I really loved my dad. I’m 37 now and living life to its fullest raising my son and loving every moment of it. I think about how much my Dad would’ve loved him and how proud he would’ve been. If you’re reading this Dad, I love you. I miss you and I hope I make you proud.

I miss my Dad as he passed away 9 years ago . He always had an answer to all my questions from the time I was a tot till we all had to say goodbye Dad. I am now 73 years old. I still catch myself reaching for my phone just to ask a question or to say I love and I miss you, Dad. He knew that answer too.. As I am my daddies daughter .

Man you told your story, which is my story. First two times I heard this song I had to stop working. I'm a carpenter. I had a son at 21 raised him on my own he is one of the best men men I've ever known. First man to have a college degree but still he chose to be a carpenter. He's a god fearing man and so is his young wife both 23 years old. I sent this to him and it took 2 hours his dog and two beers to call me. And he was still a mess like me. You hit a couple of country boys in the heart. Man.. God bless you and your daddy brother And Momma!

At 59, l made a choice to call him every Saturday morning at 8am. He is getting older, losing his eye sight and hearing. Memory is not as good for either of us. My dad passed at 67. I was 17 and had no idea what was in store for me. I am the complete opposite of what he wanted me to be and everyday I ask myself and Jesus if I let him down. As soon as I lost him one by one all the major family members that started all the family traditions just up and vanished into thin Air. I am not sad though for them reaching the afterlife because they are now part of the universe and everything that makes it. Ashes to ashes dust to dust. Rip to the fallen soldiers.
