Your work on this is so evident - you’ve taken the time to play something that sounds BEAUTIFUL not just theoretically interesting or “correct” and that excites viewers to learn. I know I’ll be spending some time on triad pairs now!

This video was the missing link I needed. I always thought triad pairs sound fantastic but couldn't see anyway they'd work on a jazz standard. I'm really thankful.

Brilliant and your playing is so eloquent! Thanks so much for breaking it all down and playing slowly which really helps me understand. I'm a guitarist and playing this kind of stuff requires a lot of cross picking across the strings, which for me is difficult. Please keep it coming. Thanks so much!

This is great. Been wanting to get back into the triad pairs and Playing them on organ. There are so many I got a little overwhelmed doing exercises. But I like this approach - put them in a tune. I got stuck in trying to hear them in a standards context and wrote out a few lines and that combine elements. It helped But this is better. Thanks very much!

Killer! couldn't wait to get home, grabbed pen and paper jotted down the changes and pairs, had the tune in BiaB already so let the kaleidoscope of colour begin. Thanks Nick as always, i also love this way as it takes the boring out of scales and accentuates the dormant beauty that lies within waiting to be released on the unsuspecting ear ;)

Quick questions: at 2:35 it is said that Eb is the 6/13th of Gmin7b5. Wouldn't that be the #5/b6 or is there something I'm misunderstanding? Sorry if I am. By the way, I just bought the Approach Note Bundle and I started working on it. Can't wait to go through all the exercices before starting to work on triad pairs. Thank you!!
3 жыл бұрын
@Joel no, because a scale that has a Gmin7b5 when harmonized does not have a D in it, but a Db.
@m.vonhollen6673
@m.vonhollen6673 7 ай бұрын
You are correct. Eb is b6/b13 in the key of G. If you called Eb, D#, only then would it (technically) be #5.

I believe the key signature should be C, not Bb since it clearly resolves to/ends in C Maj, the first 2 bars setting up the subdominant minor, FMin. then the D-7b5 to G7, the II V of I, C.. (leave alone your alto is an Eb instrument where it'd be written for you in Eb to SOUND in C ). This is in no way a value judgement on your very nice playing...

Hi Nick. Great work. I Have a question. What triad go first? Does it matter? Example. Over a Dm, I put Dm and Em (a dorian sound) or start with Em and Dm. Thanks

@14'20 : title seems not right : "Gb augmented and F minor over Ab7" instead of "Gb augmented and G minor over Ab7" Over this beautiful Ab7, what do you think of this another pair triad : Bmin/F# - Fmin To highlight this B instead of Bb (#9 of Ab7) wich is also the leading tone in the tone of Cminor, wich is the context of this 2 bars.

Serious question Maestro Nick; could you actually HUM these lines you play along with the changes? In other words, are actually hearing/"feeling it" rather than playing these lines "like etudes."

Hy! My KZfaq channel is called "TV de Olho nas Gerais"; but, my name is João Viana. I love studying music with your video lessons; I'm studying Soprano Sax; However, I have additional difficulties, because you record your videos with your beautiful soprano sax in C. My saxophone is in Bb; then, to study the scores and at the same time hear their articulations I need to transpose from Bb to C, increasing a tone; This makes everything much more difficult for those who don't have this skill. I have already purchased some of your studies in PDF; but, I was faced with the need to make the necessary adjustments; an additional hassle... I would love to continue purchasing your video classes and printed notebooks; but recorded in Bb. This can be resolved to help us focus on learning articulations; blue and jazz surrounds and swing; without having to worry about transposing the scores? Thank you very much! João Viana October 22/2023.
