UNMATA's cutting edge urban vibe takes the crowds at Tribal Fest8 on an expedition into the jungles of modern belly dance. (warning... the tape cuts out at about 9 minutes)

This why I like that it is called "tribal". Every tribe has thier own feel, thier own style and they are each so unique. They bring thier own take on belly dance. It is all belly dance, it is all beautiful and it is all powerful. These ladies are OUTRAGEOUS!!!

Rosereddoll, it's fine if you don't like them but I' know for a fact they do more than "watch one DVD" to perform. They work their asses off, and put their hearts and souls into every performance.

just wonderfull. i am deeply impressed! wow wow wow. the first video since quite a time, which i looked twice after each other... here in berlin we have no big real, professionell and with love working tribal-group. u guys look so happy - r u friends?!?! think, we have none at all...no, actually there is one only with 5 members i think, and they just start, they are still kids. what a pity - a city full of egomaniens! wished i could learn this style and have a group like this. sad now!

The energy and passion of this group is inspiring. Amy looks like a beautiful Angel on her video performances. Their workshops are high energy and full of good information take them when you are rested and ready to absorb lots of instruction. The group looks energized both individually and as a working group.

You know that it's not the same choreo with different costumes, right? The same combo was cued at the beginning of both improv tribal songs. Also doesn't it makes sense that they would be more synchronized a year later. These grrls work hard and it shows.

Hum... if some ppl would really know what Tribal is.. and what Tribal FUSION is they wouldn't be saying nasty stuff about this awesome performance.. you can clearly see the girls doing tribal improv.. with cues,transitions and everything here!! but adding the unique UNMATA twist!

ummm, ok. i guess that's a good enough answer. i've seen them dance before and i had always wondered. was kind of weird when i first saw it because the video had bad clarity so you didn't know what it was but i can see much better in this one. thanks tho.

you may not like it, but it is tribal... really. Hop into one of Amy's workshops or if you don't want to pay, watch for a moment. Sometimes the untrained eye can't catch the technicalities, but when you watch it broken down and hear the terminology used to describe it you can see where it's origins lie.
@ravenselene15 жыл бұрын
It's just two who don't shave. It's just a personal preffrence for them.
@DragonsAreHungry13 жыл бұрын
@Shaudh some part of it is called "improvisation" That´s what ATS is about. They fuse a lot of "things" together and one of it is ATS and its group improvisations. One is leader, the others follow. You have some signs agreed which all of the dancers follow. In ATS and in any improvisation, you´ll NEVER come to a full sync!
@YogoretaHana15 жыл бұрын
i DIDN'T mean to post the same thing twice my computer froze and said the comment didn't post so i reposted it. And "tribal" as i "tribal fusion" and look its just my opinion i have a right to state whether or not i like them. everyone has a rite to an opinion. please respect that.

well, darnit that doesn't help me. Are they all about the empowerment of the natural woman figure?
@YogoretaHana15 жыл бұрын
As apposed to you who looks like a glorified UNMATA savior! Praise the fan girl!!!! m( _ _ )m Criticism is apart of being an artist. You get positive and negative feed back. That is JUST how it IS. You can't go attacking every single person who decides to be the giver of the "negative" feed back. Just deal with it :).
@wachs1315 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding?
@GuitarRockinChick1815 жыл бұрын
i wasnt saying anything like that! why are you being so defensive? I was asking why they didnt because i know a lot of people do it because they embrace the natural beauty of the woman figure. plz read before you post!

@electricslipper good for the strippers, what's your point?
@elesjuan15 жыл бұрын
Who cares if they shave or not? They're beautiful and fantastic dancers regardless if they want to conform to the stupid western standards worshiped by the ignorant?
@rosereddoll15 жыл бұрын
And dance does have rules. One can't just put on ballet shoes, get on a stage, break dance, then add a pirouette at the end and call it ballet, and then expect to be taken seriously by ballet dancers. Call it modern dance inspired by ballet.
@Bumblybee25614 жыл бұрын
@electricslipper Aw, you never fail to amuse me. I sincerely hope you never stop trawling the web in an attempt to satisfy your fetishes whilst seeking an audience of strangers and forcing them to have an encounter with your personality. It's been good, but I think I've seen the best and I won't be reading anymore.
@rosereddoll15 жыл бұрын
do they? well that is a shame then. poor things.
@GuitarRockinChick1815 жыл бұрын
ok i dont want to sound like an asshole, but i was just wondering what is the reasons behind them not shaving their armpits? i know hippies use to do it, but why do these women do it? :D
@incubusnb2913 жыл бұрын
if theyre not taking their clothes off and u see no pole, guess what ITS NOT STRIPPING!!! if u want that go to some sleezy strip joint and stop lumping these ladies and all bellydancers in with those girls. bellydancing is not stripping it is an art form.
@rosereddoll15 жыл бұрын
what? I didn't care for their "performance". so? just because I like belly dance doesn't mean I have to like this. If you post in a public forum, be prepared for criticism, not everyone will like it.
@Bumblybee25614 жыл бұрын
@electricslipper Lmao. Someone has serious emotional difficulties. I'm not going to entertain your surpressed anger kid.

Then why call it tribal fusion belly dance? They should just call it fusion dance. I don't see a solid belly dance foundation, with extra added for spice and interest. I see some cheerleader-esque group dancing, with some belly dance moves thrown in for fun. I know it's not supposed to be traditional raks, but when I watch other fusion dancers I usually see a belly dance foundation. If you want to dance, dance, but don't try and redefine something popular to suit your needs.
@rasophon13 жыл бұрын
This is not tribal belly dance. Great job on the dance but again not tribal. The music is not tribal either. Would love to see you do tribal to belly dance music.
@alinamulticulturaldance15 жыл бұрын
Hahaha... art is there to watch dude! or whatever you are.. maybe you dont have a clue of how bad anyone looks when you decide to critisize something you don't know about..artists take real critic not BS
@rosereddoll15 жыл бұрын
wow. so i guess all i need is to watch one dvd and then i can perform at tribal fest by the looks of it. I understand that this is fusion but why fuse stripper moves? that raising your butt to the audience thing? not good. doesn't send the right image. it was a lot of jumping around with some jiggling and hip drops here and there. does tribal fest let amateurs perform now? my god! i saw no real passion, just them trying to remember the moves and then running across the stage for no reason.
@rosereddoll15 жыл бұрын
Well, they did make me laugh I'll give them that. Fusion in small amounts is fine, but when one takes from so many places and the dance becomes unrecognizable, and at times vulgar, and other times confusing and painful to watch, we have a problem. I now understand what middle easterners have been saying about too much fusion in belly dance. tribal is more than dressing alike on the same stage. I guess if you do something in front of enough people you can call yourself a professional. huh.
