As a first generation Mongolian American I am thrilled that this band is becoming a worldwide sensation. Just the fact that they are using Native Instruments in such a way and adapting them to rock and roll is just incredible. You should hear them do the Metallica covers pretty freaking awesome.

Another "global" sensation from Mongolia that I love watching, Batzorig Vaanchig, prompted KZfaq recommendations to introduce this great band to me. And a young Mongolian band, here in WA state, ZJE. 3 siblings who play traditional Mongolian music Good stuff comes out of that country

Throat singing is one of the most amazing vocal phenomena humans have created. HU is just plain awesome carrying this tradition forward while much of the world emulates western pop music.

10:40 true definition. That kind of throat singing (whistling) symbolises the crying. In the central asia called as 'sygyt' means 'crying'.

Shireg Shireg is a wonderful song and when my niece was very young, I would play it for her and she would sleep. I have since played it for her baby sister and she has fallen asleep too

Listening to this song you can even hear the horse hooves as they ride since it is about a warrior riding his horse and away from home and about and his parents admonition to him to find strength to face and overcome adversity when living the life of a warrior riding among the Horde and how his parent will wait for him and welcome him home when he returns this is one of my favorite songs.

Wow! That's the kind of music that bypasses language barriers to get straight to that universal core within all humans. I thought it was very lovely and evocative. It got me choked up, though I also imagined how easy it would be for a room full of people to swing about in joyful dance.

I've seen a few Mongolian/Tuvan bands. It strikes me that their music very much reflects the ponies that they ride. The music has a quick gallop, like the short stride of the ponies that they ride on the steppes. The USA western/cowboy music tends toward having a more languid, laid back, longer stride rhythm to it - like the bigger horses that they ride. Huun-Huur-Tu are worth a listen.

@@Enviro-Erin yeah, great band. Seen them a good few times, in tiny and large venues. They were good at the BBC Radio World Music Awards in Hackney a fair few years back. They had a female singer too. Johnny Depp was at that gig. He gave out an award.

It’s funny when she says “a small beating” will scare evil spirits away (I think she means a pretend spanking). In some cultures, people avoid saying a baby is pretty, or will even say it’s ugly - so this doesn’t make evil spirits jealous.

In Asian culture when a child is sickly they will dress them in the opposite gender to let the spirit know they got the wrong child. My cousin have to cross dress until he turn 20 😂 He nearly died few times, uncle had him dressed up since 3 years old. Now he’s healthy successful businessman and married and have 4 grand children.

yep, this is quite prevalent amongst my Coptic (egyptian christian) relatives. Basically "you ugly little thing, you" but said in the most loving and doting tones possible.

9:57 Yes, both of you are correct. Sygyt is throat singing but its more of a throat whistling. It allows for the seemingly impossible ability to generate 2 - 3 notes simultaneously. It will always blow my mind to know that sound is made by a human being. It's amazing.

Yay, so happy to see The Hu being reviewed here. I’ve been extremely interested to see what your group would have to say about this group. I was lucky to finally see them live a couple weeks ago. Wonderful performance and I was especially excited because it was the first rock concert for two of my kids so it was some excellent exposure in music. For me, music can be extremely moving. I like some Opera as well, I don’t have to know what the words are saying, I can feel them and witness the emotion on stage. Watching the videos The Hu puts out does help as they have subtitles and the videos are really good at telling a story, but even without that, it’s very good music.

One of my favorite songs of the last few years. Very cool to have this show up in my sub feed. I just wish you would have chosen the SiriusXM live studio recording which is a higher quality version and, I think, a much more powerful and moving performance. Watching their reactions is always such a joy. This is my favorite HU song, it not only has magically wonderful music- the words are touching and beautiful telling a story of family love, strength, adventure and coming home. I’m rather saddened that the Trybals didn’t get the full experience.

you should show them "Basotho Violin(zulu on strings) sekhankula" video on youtube or any other basotho violin music which is a stringed violin instrument made from a metal gas can, and has adjustable pitch by pulling the string itself. very interesting sounds resonate through the metal can which combines with the singing, which is strangely similar to the mongolian music even though they are from a different continent, they are both mountainous people living in cold areas which could explain the similarities

I have been enjoying this channel of seeing reactions and hearing from people with a different culture. I would love to hear the viewpoints on the music video Wrong Side of Heaven by Five Finger Death Punch. It's about the difficulties veteran soldiers often face after returning home from war in America. This band has many songs supporting soldiers. I am very curious about how the reactors' culture treat and view returning soldiers. Thank you for your enlightening content. Haha, knew it well. That's why I reffered them as your friends to Muharam. Throat singing is an essential part of some Balochi tribes here too. It goes by the name "Nar Sur". Check it out as well.

Greetings from Canada. It would be very nice to see you all react to a Band called Tool. They mix Heavy Metal with Tribal Rhythms, Sounds, and Instruments. There Lyrics are also very profound. There's a similar mouth instrument to the chang called a mouth or juice harp. My dad had one but it didn't play it much because it hurt his teeth.
