Now that they know a bit about the Amish and their culture, I think the participants would be amazed if they saw videos of an Amish barn raising, the stunning quilts they sew by hand and of the incredible furniture they hand craft without the use of power tools. The things they create are truly beautiful in their simplicity and extremely well made. The furniture is built, not just to last "a" lifetime, but durable enough to be used daily and still be passed down through multiple generations. Great video, Reactistan family! Much love and abundant blessings to all! 💛🕊🙏🏻

People who upset with Mama because he don't eat the "proper amount" of food is really need to be kind. Unfamiliar food can 'cause problem with your stomach. In Indonesia we always put spice that most white person can't handle. Once there was a tourist from The USA, my aunt force him to eat Rendang. Yes, Rendang is super delicious and CNN put them as the #1 Most Delicious Food in the world. But REAL Rendang, Rendang that cook by Minangnese people are very rich in spices and super spicy. Shortly after, that poor tourist got food poisoned. His tongue went numb and he said like a hundreds invisible knife having party inside him. He wasted his vacation days in nearby hospital.

I think Mama would enjoy visiting with the Amish. The older men have beards much like his, and there's even better, yet simple foods among them. I worked with an Amish sawyer at his lumber mill. He was contracted by my boss and he was pleasant to work with and his wife fixed lunch for both of us every day. I never had to pack a lunch. They are simple, but very generous people.

@melissasaint3283
@melissasaint3283 Жыл бұрын
So true! America is vast and so diverse. I belong to an ethnic group that began migrating to North America before Plymouth Rock, and yet husband and I still grew up in bilingual homes, and we still practice traditions and cook foods our ancestors ate three hundred years ago. America, from the outside, can seem like one culture that is mostly shallow and rootless, but under that surface, it's profoundly diverse.

@@melissasaint3283 Out of curiosity, what would that ethnic group be?
@melissasaint3283
@melissasaint3283 8 ай бұрын
@@MDRahman-sq4rs surprisingly, we are white! (At least, I am. My husband has some indigenous heritage and it really shows.) We are French Canadians. Our ancestors have been in the US for generations, and on this continent for hundreds of years, yet my husband spoke very little English until it was time to go to kindergarten, and my mother was the same. French-Canadians first came into the US to keep the mills running for the North, because many of their employees were off fighting the Civil War, and were followed by multiple wave of immigration which started to alarm some of the "mainstream", which then meant WASPs. A century ago, the KKK absolutely hated us. But even in the early 50s, my grandmother, who was born in the US, dropped out of high school because she was tired of having to walk through an Irish neighborhood to get there, and be mocked for her accent and her slightly different appearance and called slurs. She said when they started throwing rocks, she knew it was time to quit. We are actually the group that originated the idea that you could hyphenate your ethnic heritage with your American nationality, "Franco-American" Putting forth the idea that you could keep your language and traditions, and still be a good, reliable, patriotic American citizen. Every summer, all my childhood, my grandfather flew an American flag and a French or Canadian flag paired together. People who get angry because someone does that with a Puerto Rican or Brazilian flag, or because people may want to speak a language other than English at home, Are people who have lost their ethnic memories, or had them whittled down to one or two recipes. They don't remember anymore, and it has turned them selfish and closed-minded. But the motto of the French Canadians is, "Je Me Souviens".... "I Remember!"

@@melissasaint3283 are you Cajun?
@melissasaint3283
@melissasaint3283 8 ай бұрын
@@MDRahman-sq4rs No, we are "Canuck", or Quebecois. We are Snow-French, not Swamp-French 😄 But Cajun is related! The word Cajun is derived from Acadian. The British Crown sent their Navy to simply abduct the French farming settlers from a region in Canada called Acadie (now called Nova Scotia). They marched them onto ships, and dropped them off in other French colonies...sometimes families were separated. Some were left in Louisiana, some in Quebec. The Acadians left in Louisiana became the Cajuns. My husband is partly Acadian, but from Acadians who were left in the North, with the Quebecois.

I had a college professor who grew up Amish and left the community to pursue a higher education. He was the youngest of 12 boys. He joked that he was the "lending son" because when the family next door who'd only had daughters asked for help with a large family task like baling hay, his parents were always like, "Oh, we'll send Daniel. We have enough hands without him." There were many parts of his childhood that he truly treasured, but it was not without its downsides.

It is most fun to watch him reject the food but to never be rude or condemn the people who eat the food. the thing is they told them misconceptions. Amish do use tech. they use power tools, electric lights on their buggies, they use cell phones. there is New World and Old World Amish. New World Amish have electric power to their homes for lights and certin appliances. They also tend to not drink alcohol unlike Old World Amish. Old World Amish may have their homes connected if they have a medical need such as the allergy to sunlight and hence need all windows covered and use special lighting. this shows up frequently due to the limited gene pool. Didn't see any scrapple, liver, pig stomach, egg noodles, or endless pork and beef cuts and side dishes like potato salad. You will find that Amish/Penn Dutch food has a lot of variety. There are hundreds of side dishes to any main meal, including pork and saukraut and cucumber salad, etc. They also have hundreds of spreads, cheeses, meat cuts, breads, pies, dounuts, muffins, cakes, ice cream, even the types of butter anf jams for bread. Their main dishes though tend to be very hearty and flavored with simple, but traditional seasonings like garlic, salt, pepper, celery, onion, and radish.

Possible religious arguments aside, I think the Amish and the various tribal peoples of Pakistan would enjoy mutual respect and could be cordial neighbours if the surrounding lands were at peace. I suspect both groups could learn a great deal from one another without risking any harm to their protected traditions, and that they'd manage a brisk trade in handcrafted goods.

There are many Amish people in the area of Ohio where I live. And there are several restaurants in the area that serve Amish style food, which is popular with tourists who come from the larger cities.

The Amish food is all made from scratch and is one of the best foods you will try. It is not fancy, but it is filling and tastes wonderful. Mama, you eat however you are comfortable eating. I'm just happy when you try things. It is difficult to try things from other cultures that may be extremely different than what you are used to. Love watching you no matter what.

Mama at least acknowledges that he doesn't do what the other members do.. I guess I just don't understand why he's on a channel that's described as tribal people *try* different foods when in fact, he doesn't.

The shop fly pie wasn’t cooked long enough. It should hold together more and the dough should have a light brown color like apple pie. But I love this idea.

Ohhhh noooo! That whole Shoofly pie looks very undercooked! The filling shouldn't look like pudding. The crust should be lightly browned and the pie should cut cleanly (like cake). The foods usually look pretty good here but I think this one missed the mark.

"Doesn't the American government object to their own rules and regulations?" Sort of. The top US court decided in a case in 1972 that the parents' right to freedom of religion outweighed the state's right to educate children, so they are given an exemption and are allowed to educate their children in their own way, but homeschooling remains a complicated topic, and in other Western countries, they have much stricter rules regarding homeschooling than the US.

In Lancaster County Pennsylvania there are stores owned and ran by the Amish. They use computers and cell phones as well. I also watched a story about the Amish making the most beautiful furniture by hand. Where my sister lives, the Amish pretty much stay to themselves and don't use electricity or any other modern conveniences.
