There was no such thing as Pakistan during WW2. It was still a part of India and India was still enslaved into the British Empire at the that time. These people were drafted and had to fight "those cruel people." Ironically "those cruel people" were an integral part of gaining independence from the British (who were the real cruel people to them) in 1947 AFTER the British rebuilt their homeland using the spoils of their cruel empire.

The older generations like milk chocolate, f.ex. my parents and grandparents loved Cadbury Milk Tray, but dark chocolate or pure chocolate cakes they often find too oppressive, either too rich or bitter or both. There is a preference for milky, sweet desserts in our culture. Even the famous coffee cake from Hyderabad, Sindh's Bombay Bakery has a rich buttery sweet coffee cream.
@haahdia

@@piyusarkar3065 This explains so much! I love dark chocolate and really anything chocolate flavoured but my parents and other relatives almost never have a positive respons to chocolate desserts. I guess that's why milk based desserts like kheer are very popular among the older generation!

@Amy_the_Lizard
@Amy_the_Lizard 3 жыл бұрын
@@Cassxowary Eyes aren't in bone meal, blood meal, or leather. Bone meal is made from bone, blood meal is made from blood, and leather is made from skin, and in some cases part of the brain. Byproducts aren't intended to disrespect the animal, but rather exist to use as much of the animal as possible out of respect for it. Edit: Also, the meat industry does a very good job making sure meat animals have healthy happy lives with minimal suffering and stress, and are killed in as painless and stress free a way as possible.

I probably wouldn't have chosen "Black Forest" (Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte) to represent Germany, even if it is really iconic, because it's not usually done right outside of Germany. I wouldn't call Pound Cake British, it's pretty much a copy of Madeira Cake which is Portuguese and originally came from Northern Europe which could be anywhere. I guess a traditional British cake would be Victoria Sponge cake or Roly Poly.
@Doublejho
@Doublejho 3 жыл бұрын
well, victoria sponge is basically one of the world's standard birthday cakes, right? wouldn't exactly be exciting to try that
@jsolloso
@jsolloso 3 жыл бұрын
@@Doublejho No it's not. Nobody uses a Victoria sponge for a birthday cake.

@@jsolloso they're very, very similar in regards to how they're made, with the only real difference being some flour quantity, so yes, i'd say they're pushing similar enough also, it's a popular misconceprion that madeira cake originates from madeira, madeira cake is stated to have originated in the UK by sites like wikipedia, despite sharing the name with madeira, because the cake was actually named after the madeira wine it was often served with, and Madeirans produce their own cake called "bolo de mel" which is waaaay different
@jsolloso
@jsolloso 3 жыл бұрын
@@Doublejho Considering Madeira Cake is basically Bizcocho, something which has been around in the Iberian peninsula for centuries, I'd say those Wikipedia entries are lies. There is a major difference between Victoria sponge and Pound Cake, it's called strawberry jam. So that alone, makes them very different. You have to realise one thing with all Wikipedia type entries, the internet mostly speaks in English which means the entries ignore everyone else.
@Doublejho
@Doublejho 3 жыл бұрын
@@jsolloso ah yes, wikipedia, the world's most reliable source of collective and unbiased information is lying over the source of a cake, that makes sense being entirely honest, no matter where i go online, madeira is called a british cake with strong ties to madeira wine, and they'll even mention madeira's own cake (the one i mentioned earlier, bolo de mel) rather than trying to claim that bolo de mel is also a british cake or anything, lol even the portugeuse wikipedia doesn't mention madeira cake, i can't even find an entry on it, and going to the page of madeira doesn't mention the cake either, despite every other conceivable thing i can think of related to madeira coming up in the search results also in regards to what you said earlier, "nobody uses victorian sponge for birthdays", i personally remember every birthday cake i've ever eaten containing a horizontal division between the upper and lower halves of the cake filled with jam, so clearly you're wrong again given that so many commercial cakes use victorian sponge's cake design in these birthday cakes. if they were homemade then sure, it might've been a unique trait to my family or something, but even the storebought cakes from international supermarket chains have them for your stereotypical birthday cake, so i'm willing to bet my claim has a lot more grounds than you're letting on and what a surprise, looking up birthday cakes does again confirm that they're very commonly layer cakes (though not always), and that while some countries like sweden generally use pound cakes and some others use tarts, birthday cakes are usually layer cakes just take the L on this one, bossman, it's far more likely that you're wrong than the entirety of the internet - there's no shame in being wrong like you almost made me believe me i was initially, but a little fact check does tell me i'm right, and it's a little disingenuous to keep trying to argue your misconceptions as fact in the face of the evidence i'm seeing i got to learn what i already knew was fairly concrete today, so thanks for that
