I saw someone else comment on another video that he felt like he was starting to understand what everyone was saying. I caught myself last night at dinner taking a whiff of my plate and saying hie, hie, hie. My wife looked at me with a bewildered look on her face and asked, were you just saying hello you your food? I was laughing too hard to explain, just another reason I love all the people involved in this channel. On a separate note, I think it would be interesting to learn more about the operators of the channel, the people behind the scenes. I'd also like to see all of their homes and village(s). I'd also like to learn more about what type of work they do, etc. This channel has been a godsend for me in more ways than one. I am fascinated by their personalities, lifestyle and traditions. I am humbled by their modest homes, possessions and incomes. I am motivated to save money in order to be able to send them something tangible in addition to my words of support. I am actively thinking about needs vs wants, and whittling down excess "stuff" giving it to those without. I am far more money conscious in general. Every installment helps toward restoring some faith in humanity. Thank you for being you and doing what you do. It may be more important than you realize, I know it is for me and I suspect many others as well. ✌️❤️🙏

for crying out loud, THANK YOU! you would think these channels would have some culinary consultants to give them accurate information!! My mom made scalloped potatoes about once a month. The 'scallop' refers to the shape of the potatoes when they are sliced. There's NO cheese! It's potatoes, boiled to soften, in a white sauce with whatever you please for flavor, some ham or bacon for flavor if you have it, baked in the oven till browned. They are delicious and they do NOT. HAVE. CHEESE! if you add cheese, it's potatoes Au Gratin and my mom never made that!

😋 Looks delicious!, yes it can be a bit salty but easy to fix by skipping the salt when cooking the potatoes. scalloped potatoes originated in England. I love how they really appreciate every part that each ingredient has to offer. I mentioned this in the last video I watched. But they’re very aware and they appreciate bread’s fillingness (not a word but you get it), even the garlic on garlic bread and it’s benefits. The iron and vitamin D with the potatoes and cheese. You wouldn’t see many people doing that. Like if this was fed to someone who just never happened to have had it

A favorite of my dad's.He would make it, top it with browned disks of sausage and as it baked the sausage juices would trickle down.Plain it is a good side dish with meat on a cold winter day.Very simple.Peel and slice potatoes, put a layer to cover the bottom of a baking dish, dot with butter, being generous, sprinkle with plain flour, salt and pepper, keep layering til you are out of potatoes or fill the dish.Pour good quality milk over it but not to the top, leave room for potato water to cook out (a couple finger breadths).Bake til potatoes are done and sauce has thickened. You can add grated cheese or cooked meat to the layers if you want this would make it au gratin potatoes. If it seems to be drying out while baking just add a bit more milk.

I wonder why they never show or tell them the ingredients list? So many of these recipes use ingredients common to them. Even showing them how to make something as simple as mayonnaise, which they get confused over, would expand their diets immensely. Take their corn for instance, if they were introduced to making masa then it will not only expand their food supply, but create a myriad of other food options at almost no costs.

The original French dish is called "Gratin Dauphinois" (pronounced Do-fee-nwa) and is really just layers of paper-thin potatoes separated by heavy cream, garlic, salt and pepper, set to cook then broiled in the oven. It is meant to be a side dish, usually served with lean red meats with strong flavors such as marinated bavette, tangy wine sauces, or pepper steaks, for example. Hence its subdued creamy taste. Whereas Scalloped Potatoes are the US version: thicker potatoes, often packed with cheese, bacon, cheese cream sauce, guns, bibles, freedom, etc. Pretty much a meal on its own.

I love simple scalloped potatoes as you describe, but with lots of thinly sliced onion - no cheese. I'm from the northern US and not particularly fond of guns, bibles, NASCAR or red hats.

@@61hink You say Northern US, we say Southern Canada! ;P Try using French shallots instead of onions if you can find them: sweeter flavor, less pungent.

I never heard of scalloped potatoes having cheese - that would make them au gratin potatoes. But fun video!

I had basically a single pixel go out on my tv for a bit, did the same thought a speck of lint or something was there. It came back on though...weird lol.

OMG the Dr watches American wrestling - how funny! Nothing more comforting than scalloped potatoes, even if cheese was put on top. I wonder how they would compare Potatoes au gratin?

Two of the tastiest MOST DELICIOUS words in the whole world are POTATOES anddddddddd….. CHEESE!! Yes TPT, I’m one of those Americans you mention often, the ones who put cheese in everything, lol. And with potatoes? It just doesn’t get better. Unless there’s cheesecake for dessert! 😁
