At least medium rare and well done to compare. The steak they had was tough and dry by the looks of it.

I know, just from some of the other tribal channels that they most likely wouldn't have touched it if it wasn't cooked super well done. Apparently, the Qur'ān says that in order for meat to be halal certified, it must be drained and rinsed of every trace of blood. They'd look at any meat that was even a tiny bit pink as being haram. I guess there's been some recent talk among the younger imams and the elders about allowing at least some amount of pink in the meat, but I don't know if anything definitive has been settled.

South Asians aren't into rare/medium anything when it comes to meat. We generally always marinate our meat well before any kind of grilling or cooking and then we cook it well. These looked like they were cooked yesterday or at least quite a few hours before shooting and now they're cold and chewy

In the African-American community, well done is more popular because of racism. Butchers would save the better and fresher cuts for white patrons and only give the old and less desirable cuts to black patrons. Not having fresher meat led to them cooking it longer for safety concerns ages ago, and despite that no longer being the case, that preference for having meat well done has just sort of stuck around as a preference generationally because each generation grew up having it like that.

So many cuts of meat. Each must be prepare a certain way. There tradition takes them to WellDone but that only make the meat tougher. Medium rare is the farther to go with a steak. The cheaper the meat, the longer you should cook. Slow at low heat. Only the most expensive meat are grilled quickly according to the picture you showed them. From the look of it, it look like a flank steak or London broil, both should sliced thin across the grain. Steak is complicated and should be done correctly. I think they would enjoy it was a better cut, well prepared.

i’m not jp but i’d say a festival called obon is more similar to dia de los muertos; obon is a time to pay respects to and have a celebration with the dead or to spend time with ur grandparents

Man, as a steak lover myself, it pained me to see what the cooks did with that meat. The first mistake was ordering it well done. Those cuts of meat looked extremely lean and tough, so well done is just overkill. However, even tough cuts of meat can come out AWESOME if you marinate them for an hour in something that will tenderize them, like pineapple juice. Then, you can season them with something simple, like salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Sear both sides to form a crust, and then let them cook for about 5-7 mins on each side on medium heat. Put a pat of butter on top at the end of cooking and let it melt over the steak. Then thinly slice each steak, to make it easier to eat (since our Reactistan folks want theirs well done). Much Love to Everyone!

Agree with Mustafa about steak. Very well done and salt on both sides. I also like to use Mrs. Dash garlic and herb mix on both sides also. Great with hamburgers too.

Very well done ruins quality cuts like ribeye and filet mignon. For cheaper cuts like sirloin and flank steak sure cook the hell out of it because what difference does it make.

@@miketexas4549 I don't like raw meat of any kind.If it still has pink, it's raw. Just how I am. Also, with this economy who can afford filet mignon? I'm not rich, lol.

@@SkitSkat674 when cooked very well done the flavor literally exits the meat - this is not my opinion because if you cook it long enough you'll eventually have a pile of carbon.

You cooked well-done incorrectly btw. It's not supposed to dry out. You sear it super-high, then take the pan off the heat while you let it cool to low. That gives you a crunch and juice. You could also do the butter basting method.

Their primitive and backwards religious beliefs prevent them from eating "normal" foods. Can you imagine - no bacon ? or other things that civilized people take for granted ??

@@urbanurchin5930 Civilized people do not look down on others because of their religion or whether they prefer their food well done or rare. Taste is subjective, no right or wrong way and it certainly does not make anyone better than anyone else. Intolerance is insufferable.
