People we can have different preferences, it's not necessary for all of us to like the same sweets. All of them have their place, the "best" down to personal preferences and that's a good thing. Unity in diversity right?

I grew up in Texas, often eating something very, very much like Sheer-Brinj. We simply called it "Sweet Rice". The rice was cooked, then we added brown sugar, milk, and butter. And when we had it, we added cinnamon, nutmeg, and/or other spices to it. My children often had Sweet Rice as well. It is nice to know that I have something more in common with my new KZfaq friends.

OMG! You spoke my mind. There's so much similarity in the language they speak as well as some of the local cuisines/delicacies they show. The last dish they showed (Sheer-Brinj) kinda resembles the "Kheer" we prepare here, and as Huma was saying, they use Sheera for preparing this. Sheera, I guess, is milk and the same connotation in the Indian context can be used for Kheer where Milk is the primary constituent. They also used a word - sheeraz for referring to the syrup that's used in Gulab Jamun. It's so similar to the sanskrit word sheera. Edit -- PS. There's a phrase used here in Sanskrit -- Sheer Sagar meaning "The Sea of Milk/Milky Sea". So, I guess, the "Sheer" (Persian/Farsi word) has the same connotation as Milk (in reference to Sheer - Brinj) where milk is the main ingredient and rice. Damn, Proto-Indo-Iranian languages from which all these languages may have evolved have so much in common. The delicacies are also somewhat similar and seem to have same roots which just got attenuated to different topography, climate, and cross-cultural amalgamation. I just remembered that the word "Sabzi" is also an Iranian word which means the same thing for them as we Indians use it here for vegetable curries (roughly speaking).

Pleasure! Other videos have subtitles too, but that need to be turned on, via CC button, if you want to watch them. Of course all videos will be subtitled just like this one from now on.

They resemble the Italian frittele (pittule) of southern Italy and the Balkan area. Deep fried at a low temperature and then glazed with a honey syrup.

@@GiuseppeLeopizzi Italian food is very tasty, yeah middle Eastern food is also great, just a little correction, India is not the part of middle east it's actually a part of Asia(South Asia) :)

@@snigdhasingha104 India and the Middle East have a lot of shared culture when it comes to cuisine. India gifted the Middle East with spices and karak tea, and the Middle East (specifically Persia) gifted India with biriyani and samosas. May a shared love of food unite the world!

@@beastvader yes you are correct we have a lot of shared cultures :) I was just clarifying the geographic location as a lot of people confuse parts of south asia as middle east.

We have a somewhat similar dessert in Quebec, but the dough balls are poached in maple syrup. They're called "grands-pères" (grandfathers).

Sheer brinj is called kheer in India. It’s exact same recipe. You can also add dry fruits if you like. It’s very popular dessert in India. You can make it on any day but it’s more commonly made on days when we hold prayer meets at home or during festivals.

One day I went to a restaurant that had a large tray of gulab jamun floating in warm syrup on the dessert table. It was like winning the lottery. It is a delightful dish.

They should try "donut holes" (of different varieties). Like regular "donut" donut holes, cake donut holes, glazed, apple cinnamon, pumpkin spice, chocolate, etc. I think they'd really enjoy them... :) And then maybe a few different kinds of donuts. Glazed donuts, chocolate glazed, cake donuts, maple bars, jelly donuts, cream-filled, cinnamon twists, apple fritters, cinnamon rolls (glazed "donut" variety, and actual "cinnamon rolls" of the pastry non-donut variety)... I think they'd really enjoy those, too. :)

This is the dessert a sweet kid at one of the very FIRST parties I face painted at brought over for me to try. She asked if I knew what it was and I said yes. She didn’t believe me at ALL and gave me a look until I told her the name of it. Then she proceeded to bring me EVERY dessert they had because she wanted to see what I was and wasn’t familiar with. If I ate EVERY bite of ethnic food that kids brought over for me to try, I’d probably weigh over 600 lbs! The thing I hear most at my gigs is, hey face painting lady, try this! 🤣 My favorite dessert of ALL time is sutarfeni. A bite of that stuff is like a glimpse of the afterlife!

Gulab Jamun is one of India’s most popular sweet. These deep-fried dumplings/donuts made of dried milk [khoya] are dipped in a rose-cardamom flavored sugar syrup and make quite a treat. In India, you would find gulab jamun at every wedding, party, birthday and festivals. In short if you arrange any Indian party and plan to keep only one dessert, chances are it will be gulab jamun! With the festive season about to begin, I had to share my favorite melt-in-mouth gulab jamun recipe with you guys So nice video
