Mixing engineer on KZfaq does all his recordings in open spaces. For singing n recording music I think if u find a location/room or space with great sounding acoustics it will sound just as good on recording. To control frequency clutter u can use compression n EQ going in n if u use stereo mic set up u should be able to get a great wide loud sounding recording. I have seen videos bout deadening sound reflections but no one can say exactly y it is necessary or wat the technical benefit is wen it comes to mix. I've ask numerous times on different channels no one has even responded. Not once. I have to just guess it has something to do with frequency clutter that makes for a less loud recording after u master. N u may lose some of the close proximity intimacy of the vocal.

@CallMeJack It won't necessarily be quieter inside, it will just be less resonant. You still need a relatively quiet environment to work in. Although heavier blankets can help a lot as well. I'm using 5.5 pound blankets and they don't really change the volume of noise outside.

As nice as this is, it's essentially a prebuilt version of a jury-rigged PVC booth you could build yourself for maybe $200 while selling it for $1500. I will never understand why anything catered to voice artists always costs an arm and a leg.

Hi Schmuddel, we understand there are many who can't understand why something like this could be nuanced and obsessed over so much to justify this price. I built my own booth just like this out of PVC pipes and SoundBoothtoGo blankets. It only cost around $380 and took about 3 hours to cut down the PVC and assemble everything. If you buy your own moving blankets and figure out a way to attach velcro to them/hang them from the frame, it could be way cheaper.

For everyone concerned about the cost...Have you considered all the accessories that come included: boom arm, shelf, cup holder, duffle bag, LED light, etc.? And what about the custom audio chain designed to replicate YOUR mic, YOUR voice, and YOUR main recording booth/space, custom-created by George? These go for $75 and up on George's site. Once you add these up, you're not at $200 any more. Add shipping and profit. Sure, I could build it if all it was was PVC and blankets. But it's not. And not everyone wants to. For them, their time is more valuable They'd rather get in the booth and record something amazing.

@StarshipGhost
@StarshipGhost 2 жыл бұрын
Oh come on.... its way more expensive than the cost. At least $1000 more. If you are rich then by all means buy whatever but many people cannot afford this for that price when they can just go hang up sound blankets themselves. If they were smart they would price it lower to get more sales. They are going for all the money in the beginning without working their way up.

We understand the need to make a profit. But making a thousand dollars minimum profit per unit is only possible at the insane markup they're selling this for. If it's possible to do it yourself, why shouldn't you? You can even still support the business and buy the fx chain online.

Funny story, just two days ago I built my first booth ( 3'x3'x6'6'') in my closet using $60 worth of PVC, most of the blankets in the house, a $20 led lamp from lowes, and a mic stand that my friend gave me. Sounds like I built this product for about 12% of the asking price (assuming I used $100 of blankets), I understand there are multiple convenience factors added and profit must be made, but I do feel as if this a luxury item for a serious professional, rather than a functional item for anyone else.... however, I'm big fan of booth junkie, and always love the content!

Incredibly quick setup and tear down. There are 2 types that work for specific setups depending upon your needs. We are planning on using these at the GenCon in Indy next year. The only thing that might be an issue is if the VA is on the larger (tummy) size, much smaller in size or handicapped (wheelchair). The good news is there can be some interesting customization available. Some industrial strength Velcro for holding some of the accessories out of the way is a great addition. One more thing is the length and width of the blankets could be a tad longer and wide. Everything else, I wait until I get to work with them in a convention atmosphere. - Thank you Rick for being OCD!

This is what those little mic stand reflection filters try to do. The only hitch I heard was was some high-mid comb filtering. It sounds like either reflections off the copy stand or camera, or something wonly with the mic mount. It looked like the shotgun's interference tube might be covered partially by the shockmount, but there is a similar ~1.5K honk from some close reflection of some sort. All that aside, this is a fantastic booth. People will still bitch and moan about the lack of soundproofing (because most people don't know the difference between reflections and soundproofing) but the simplicity is elegant. Nice booth!

Great video, Mike! I loved Rick and George's take on the business and their experiences with portable/makeshift booths. To all the haters on the price... that cost INCLUDES a consult with George Whittam, where he'll create a sound filter for your DAW of choice for the booth. The price makes sense now, as his services are high cost and he's in high demand. If you're a pro, (the target market for this product/service) these are costs you can include in your taxes at the end of the year. So depending on your area's taxation laws and rules, you probably can write off a portion of that cost.
@MahmoudTaji
@MahmoudTaji 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that wasn't made clear initially, however, this is probably not a sustainable business model where you will depend on someone listening to your ambient location and make a filter for you. The whole point of this is that you are able to travel and move from place to place (travel booth) as such you aren't going to be emailing George every time you travel so that he can adjust your filter to match the new hotel you are staying in or the beach house you are airbnbing.

Super cool video. The price is...interesting. But you can also make DIY absorption panels out of 703. This might be for people who don't want to mess with all that stuff, don't have the tools, etc. Also, some of the materials do seem boutique, like the top cover and such, so their production and material costs are probably higher than what you'd buy from home depot (but not sure how much per unit considering). And it seems to work which is good! I like the bungee cord/strap idea to maintain some stability.

The people complaining about the price and saying that they could do it themselves for $X if they just bought the supplies themselves, should do just that - go buy the supplies and build it yourself. As Mike said, this is a purpose-built, tailored booth for people that have the specific needs that this has been made for. Not to mention that it comes with a whole heap of inclusions that you would be hard-pressed to include in your hypothetical "$200" home-made booth. PVC pipes & their elbows & joints? Sure, cheap enough. The straps and the bungie-cords to keep the pipes together - yeah, why not. But to get the right grade moving blankets with a custom-fit ceiling blanket, dimmable LED light, power adapters, mic & copy stand (QUALITY ones, not just el cheapo ones) - put all that together to have a DECENT booth and you wouldn't have that come to $200, even with US pricing for cheap parts. As an Aussie, I would absolutely *love* to buy this, but the cost + shipping is just currently out of my range, and I'd almost be able to get a more permanent solid booth in my home for the same outlay - but there is no chance I'm going to pretend to be capable enough to measure, cut, and construct a booth similar to this - not to mention having an understanding of sound and space design, etc - just to avoid paying for a purpose-built product like this. I feel like this is just typical internet complaints that is thoughtless venting and projecting of one's own frustrations onto the creators / reviewers of the product, as if they should be making everything convenient for everyone else exept themselves - cos who really cares if businesses make money, am I right? Next we're going to say that a $75 Reaper licence is extortionate and the Rode NT1-A costing only ~$300 (even though if comes with an incredible shock mount & filter) is too expensive! FFS...

The issue I have with this as a travel booth solution is that the Tri-booth team are toting this as a great solution for the traveling voiceover artist. They are justifying the 1.5k price by saying that George will create a bespoke filter just for you to clear up your background noise and output something phenomenal. That wouldn't work for the traveling person because once you take that booth to a new location the filter becomes useless. It's designed for maybe your home base ... the moment you leave that and go to a hotel or whatever you'll need a new filter which means going back to George and waiting for him to redesign the filter. This might be a good idea if they are going to have a subscription based model where you get an account on their website and upload your ambient sound and have George or someone like George redesign a bespoke filter for that new location you are in. I am all for new products in the VO world and would love to see this product on kickstarter if it means the price will come done and be more affordable. If they can team up with maybe the acoustic blanket people to produce proper sound insulating blankets. I'm all for that. Look, good luck to you and I wish all the best to your endeavor. But the business model needs to be adjusted imho.

Hi Mike, Love your extremely helpful videos. Thanks. One Q: could you do a sound comparison of a full length blanketed booth vs partial length booth? What's the difference? Is anything lost by not covering the booth all the way? It's got to be cooler to perform in a booth that lets air in, but does it have adverse effects on the recording; more echo? More room noise? Thanks. Much appreciated.

I recently bought a snap studio which is pretty much the same thing. I wonder if the noise level is just as high in this one as in the snap studio.

I have to agree with the comments here. I love the channel but why would I pay 1500 dollars for something I could build for 150? I do see there are some conveniences with the elastic and the straps. However I am not paying more for a portable booth than I did for my mic (KSM32). The tailored roof and table are nice touches. It does look very nice. Again, love the channel and I wish the Tribooth guys well. But too pricey for me.

Would this idea work for recording acoustic guitar as well? Clearly I can’t afford the booth but if I tried to build something similar myself?

$1.500?!?! For that bit of cloth and PVC? Are they out of their mind?
@dylanj8676
@dylanj8676 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's like $30 worth of PVC, and maybe $100 worth of blankets (not even unless you buy "sound blankets"). $1500 can build you a legitimate soundproof booth with plywood, drywall, and mineral wool.

@@ireallyreallyreallylikethisimg The part that makes me laugh here is when the guy on the video chat chat says that it doesn't matter that there's a foot of open air at the bottom because the mic isn't there, as if a microphone doesn't pick up any noise other than what's directly in front of it. That empty space can and probably will introduce extra reflections. If the creators of garbage products like this want people to buy it at least use properly sized blankets.

Pretty sure the $1500 is getting you the professionally designed effects chain from George and the rest of their customer service more than the booth itself.

at 9:08 my dream booth Like I have always watched your videos I got inspired alot bought myself a Neewer nw700 condenser mic with behringer u phoria audio interface headphones audacity software and acoustic foam but I am not able to make the most out of it like you said earlier that we have to invest in the room or recording space I feel very down that I am not able to get the sound which I want to get I am thinking of investing in this booth I was praying to God to make a way out !!!!

Great Idea, but the pricing needs work to be useful to the “do it yourself” audio crowd. As a professional, I’m sure it’s more manageable.

Yes, a different product would be suited to the "DIY" crowd. When creating a small run, hand-made product, knowing one's customer base is important. We knew it wouldn't be DIY'ers we're selling this to.

The tri booth is a good idea, but it won't work for me. I have a small desk with a computer monitor on and I use the sm58 mic which is on a longer arm. I need something similar though, but more square and adjustable in size. I do want to improve my recording, so I do need something

Man these guys are making like 1.2k per one of these things bought. I understand prepackaging, and I respect the ad, but these same things can be done by yourself for like less than 200 bucks. I have one myself, that's how I know. If you're looking for a good video, check out the Deity Microphones channel. They made a building guide on a booth slightly bigger than this, but made out of the same exact stuff. Also for this much you can get a used Whisper Room on eBay, which is professionally built.
