Been dreading losing the Stones for a while and sad to see Charlie was the first "Old Stone" to go. We don't know life without them and how lucky we all are to have been alive during these years and be able to see them live. 500 years from now they will still be popular and Charlie will forever carry the beat.

Mick Taylor's ascending notes after each chorus are like a perfect musical reply to the slightly downbeat lyrics. Like it's saying, yes, time slips away from us but life is still a beautiful thing. A little touch of genius. It reminds me a bit of Carlos Santana's playing. And then at the end when everything falls away and you're just left with Charlie's beat, like a ticking clock. Absolutely brilliant. Charlie was like their anchor. He helped keep their feet on the ground. I don't think they would've kept going as long as they did without him. I've always loved this song and it seems so underrated and overlooked. One of their best pieces, I think. God bless that man.

I absolutely always loved Charlie Watts. He was funny & had class. I once saw an interview when they were all asked (by a tasteless reporter), who had the highest number of conquests being a Rolling Stone & they all kind of laughing & then said Charlie’s # was 0 , since he was married to his wife since the 60’s & he said “that’s right & proud of it”.

One of THE most modest people in the music industry who felt more comfortable behind a drum kit than in front of a camera, who when told how much the rest of The Stones rated his drumming said they were being kind. Very sad news for everyone who loves The Rolling Stones and I am sure will be greatly missed by the rest of the band, a guy who's beat Keith Richards described as the engine room of the band. Charlie Watts was never the most flashy drummer. He wasn't known for the frenzied solos of Cream's Ginger Baker, or for placing explosives in his kick drum like The Who's Keith Moon. Instead, he was the subtle, stoic heartbeat of Rolling Stones for almost 60 years. With Bill Wyman and Keith Richards forged some of rock’s deepest grooves on “Honky Tonk Women,” “Brown Sugar” and other songs, for example. We all fans here in Brazil will miss Charlie 🇧🇷

And I thought I was the only one crazy about "Time Waits for no One." It is so damn profound: "Time can tear down a building, or destroy a woman's face." You know, underneath all the hoopla, spectacular goings on of the Rolling Stones and the business of rock n roll stardom there exists two very thoughtful philosophic poets named Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. And they had a drummer who knew exactly what each song needed. What I like the best about "Time Waits" besides Mick Taylor's solo is the song starts and ends with the immortal Charlie Watts groove.

@@timmiller5913 Thank you, the compliment means everything. You know, the line that haunts me through the decades is "hours are like diamonds, don't let them waste." We don't personally know the Rolling Stones. Never will, and why should we? I would never see them live, I'm not the mass adulation type. But they seem like good people. Charley Watts lived a good long life, with wealth and fame. It's touching to see the affection for him from the other Stones, knowing that's earned. If I out live Mick and Keith seeing them go will be sad. But those two hard asses would probably say "save your grief for the ones you do know."

It's my favorite song from my favorite Stones album: "It's Only Rock n Roll." This song flew under the radar but was a recurring theme in their music. Every " time" song from them is classic. "Tiiiiiiiiiiiiime is on my side,"" Baby, baby, baby you're out of time. " (this one has been in about 500 movies.) "Time Waits For No One" is the deepest, most thoughtful. Charlie Watts tick, tick, tick with his sticks was a stone cold genius. Mick's plaintive yearning says it all, and Mick Taylor's soloing and meshing with the almighty Keith Richards maybe the best two-guitar combo in rock history.

M.B.S. Great post. So sad to hear of Charlies passing. In 1964, my friend Perry N., had the Stones first album, as soon as it was released. In Spring of 1964, Perry N. told us he had the album and asked us if were interested in wanting to listen to it. Gary H. and me liked the Beatles and of course , we did! We all flipped out and listened to the album 3 or 4 times! All the while, we mimicked the Stones in front of his large mirror for about an hour! I was 13 at the time! Now at 70, approaching my 'twilight' years, and seeing a great musician of my life, pass, this song (Time Waits For No One), really puts this life we are blessed to have, into perspective! Never heard it before, but it really hit me. I just downloaded it to add to my itunes... RIP Charlie Watts and thanks for the post M.B.S.!
