This is the tragedy of our time that we speak the language but can't write or read. Every language is beautiful but Urdu has a special place in Indo/pak history and must be maintained as such.
@ppatori17 жыл бұрын
I don't find it a tragedy. If you think it's not a foreign language (which it is not) then it should be written in the script which is from the soil and can be easily written. Devanagari should be improved for writing urdu.
@khalidyar7 жыл бұрын
writing urdu in devanagari ........lol it is like writing english in arabic .. ...but the nationalistic skull some times becomes so thick that you cannot drill even a single truth in it..

Its not tragedy.....if u know javaid hayat (urdu dan اردو دان)from pakistan.he can't write and read urdu...but he is urdu danاردو کی سند کہا جاتا ہے انہیں

It was reassuring to share Shabana Azmi's experience with Faiz Ahmed Faiz in this video. I feel less bad knowing that Shabana, an actress and personality of class and substance cannot read Urdu. I was not fortunate enough to learn this language of ultimate refinement. Despite knowing Shakespeare, Shelley, Keats, T. S. Elliot and such, I really feel the lack Urdu poetry and language in my cultural literary background.

Shabana Azmi touches a chord when she says that she cannot read or write Urdu but understands it well. I also fall in this category. However, I differ from her to the extent that I maintain that I cannot read or write Urdu in a particular script - nastalikh. Ask me to read or write Urdu in devnagari script and you will scarcely fault me either on content or 'talaffuz'. Language and script are two different things. Devnagari is the script for four five different languages, apart from Hindi. For example, I cannot understand Marathi or Nepali, though both use Devnagari as script. Therefore, we must disabuse our minds of the compulsion of using Nastalikh as script in order to understand Urdu.

Parlay patoria I respectfully disagree, yes it is a tragedy and I know many Indians who speak perfect Urdu but refuse to call it Urdu and insist on calling it Hindi, now why is that sir. To them every Indian song, movie or drama is Hindi even though they were written in and sung in Urdu script, actually Ninety percent of Indian songs were and are In Urdu. Writers such as Neeraj, Shelindera, Sahir, Shakeel Badauni, kefy Azimi, Qamar Jalalabadi and many more wrote in Urdu and had no problem calling it as such then why not calling it a spade when it's spade. As I said before every language is basically a mode of communication and it's beautiful. Urdu, Hindi, Marathi, punjabi, Bengali and many many more languages spoken in India are beautiful. I have no problem calling them Indian languages or Hindustani languages, but every one of them carry there own separate distinction so do Urdu and Hindi then why feel ashamed of calling them what they really are. Hindi is Hindi and Urdu is Urdu, please give them their proper identity and respect don't mix them up. Thank you.

It is an irony that her father was a famous Urdu poet but he did not teach her daughter Urdu in which he earned a name and fame. Furthermore, she herself also worked in films of Bollywood and its main language is Urdu not so-called Hindi. Her husband is also a Urdu poet and lyricist. This amply reflects hypocrisy of Shabana Azmi's love for her mother tongue. Shame on you.
@gauravbansaledu6 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by so-called Hindi? Urdu is not of any divine origin, a language which is mix of Hindi and Persian and developed in barracks through interaction between soldiers, is somehow superior for a lot of dimwits...
