Guitar Hangar - Lessons, Rentals, Repairs, and More

Күн бұрын

Rick Tedesco has always been an infallible fan of Mick Ronson, from his early days with David Bowie to his later years as a solo artist so inevitably, after Ronson passed away in 1993, Rick decided to begin his search for all things Ronson.
With the Help of his good friend Ian Hunter, and some strategic investigative skills he was able to track down Ronson's infamous Gibson Les Paul and the rest, as they say, is history.
So we hope you enjoy this video we at Guitar Hangar put together for you, as Rick takes you on a journey through his collection of gear Mick Ronson used to develop his sound.

When Mick walked onto the stage at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert I knew we were in for something special. His guitar on Heroes & Dudes was on another level & he stole the show. Your passing is felt by many.

wonder6789 .......I’m very late but yes indeed to both yours and the above comments’. Mick was so unwell by this time, he slept backstage in order to muster the energy to perform (bless his heart) and I agree, Mick absolutely stole the show. Not only was the man a majestic guitarist, he was devoid of ego, (a true rarity) who contributed to so many other musicians’ material. A lovely example of Ronno’s gorgeous guitar work that seems relatively forgotten (it’s on KZfaq) is his beautiful playing on Elton John’s early gem “Madman Across The Water”. Mick is undoubtedly missed.

I remember the airing of that concert on TV was the first time I'd become actively aware of that song, and of Bowie and crew's output. I'd definitely heard that song before, but it just floored me how amazing it was, and how amazing that performance was (I would have been 16 or 17 at the time), and started a lifelong fandom that has given me great joy over the years.

Mick was fun to work with. He produced my band Funhouse's recordings--we were the first non-Prince band to record at paisley back in 1987.

Am amazed at how many people love Mick, he is never a household name like Clapton etc but I suppose class is always found by people who know what they are looking for. I like your version of Moonage Daydream btw, that is how it should be played. I play in a band and most guitar players when is comes to the solo think it's time for a guitar blast, I always stop them and tell them to learn it correctly, it's classic Ronson.

After the 'Welcome' record they did another show at the Roxy...many of us were at the original 'Welcome' shows. During the show they stopped when Micks amp was making strange noises and Ian mentioned the equipment was rented because their stuff was at the set of a show called "Fridays". Turns out a friend and I were pounding on the stage so hard the reverb springs were bouncing making a weird rumble. Mick went over to mess with it and we suddenly figured it out...and stopped real fast!

Thanks for this, realy enjoyed it. Mick was an amazing guitarist and musician. A true 'Guitarists Guitarist'. I was a big Bowie fan in the 70s (my early teens) and realy noticed Micks sound on the tracks. Saw Bowie live on the 'Serious Moonlight' tour but sadly never saw Mick live. I have listed Micks solo albums for my future birthday gifts 👍 Also a big fan of Mott/Ian (Ian still looking and sounding good) and remember fondly their hit 'Once bitten twice shy' etc. Cheers and good fortune.

Have you done anything with those 2" tapes?? That's something I would really like to hear. If anything, you should transfer them just to preserve whats on there. Magnetic tapes will deteriorate over time and you should try to save them before its too late. Leaving them sitting on a shelf is not good

good job on "rescuing" all that stuff and giving it a home where its appreciated and its whereabouts actually known. I enjoyed both videos very much.....I play a '70 Marshall Major....I love the sound of the UltraLinear output tranny. thx for rescuing this collection and taking the time to share it. Also - be careful about running "the pig" (marshall major) with 2 pwr tubes - make sure the correct tubes are pulled, that is, the inner pair OR the outer pair. thx!

I remember 'John I'm only dancing' wafting from a hospital day room when I was 10 - 1972 and I knew I needed to listen to more of the beautiful noise, made by beautiful people. Always think of you Mick, never forget you and your sound Ste

I'm willing to bet that if you got in touch with Joe Elliott he would transfer those Mick Ronson studio tapes you have for free in his own studio in Ireland. He like you is a major Ronson fan. You should try, he will either ignore the request, or talk to you about it. Can't hurt to try. If you never ask, you will never know. During the last 10 years Elliott has really gone back to his teenage 13 year old roots.

Rick, the funniest Concert moment that I ever saw involved Ian Hunter at the Agora Ballroom. During a song Ian just tosses his Guitar into the crowd. A Roadie jumps into the Mosh Pit after it. After wrangling for some time with crazed fans to retrieve it he triumphantly climbs back onto the stage & hands it to Ian who immediately throws it back. During the interview Ian states that he no longer knows where one of the Guitars that was given to him is. It's probably in some lucky fans room.

Thank you, I really enjoyed your Mick Ronson tribute videos. Obviously you're a die hard Ronson fan. Whilst it's so cool that all those precious Mick belongings are together and very treasured, I'm just having a hard time wondering how Mick's family can part with them. I don't know why, but this really bothers me a lot.

Alot of the time the famaly doesent have a use for it, shure theres sentimental value, but after the while, espeicaly with musical equipment, the famaly sees it better to get it to someone who will use and appreciates it than to keep it in a closet.

Thanks for this ronno tribute, first time I have seen it, great insight. I got into a Ian/Mick soundcheck once and was standing next to Ronson as he was tuning up, it didn't sound too good till he plugged in his Guitar and Ziggy Stardust jumped out, brilliant. Btw, you mentioned Stevie Via, are we talking The Stevie Via? Never knew he was a Ronson fan.

...I have a tape of that Roxy show because it was simulcast on the radio. I need to find it and post it here someday I guess. When Ian came on stage he said "Welcome back…to the old club", then waved to some of us...the faces he remembered I guess. The last time I ever saw Mick...and I don't think he ever knew what was making the noise from his amp! It seemed like a long delay but when I listen to the tape it is only a very short delay...felt like hours to us...LOL! Sorry Mick.

I never had the knowledge of this guy's brilliance & stage personification(s). He was very frustrated by the way Bowie traded players album to album when he was able to. I'd feel insulted by that too. "THAT was Bowie!" Thinking of what could have been.
