Risk vs reward. Those in charge should seriously take a hard look at their procedures on entering a burning structure when no lives are at risk. If you arrive on scene and fire is showing then it’s absolutely safe to say no one inside is alive…..meaning smoke inhalation got them if the heat didn’t. If fire is showing you have to assume the fires been going for a while and collapse is imminent. It’s wood, sheet rock and furniture. It’s idiotic at best to attempt to save a shell of a structure when it’s going to be rebuilt anyway. I’d say the chief on scene should be investigated for allowing entry. It’s a sad day for a fire department that went literally a dozen plus years without giving these workers a single pay raise. At one point they even took money and benefits away. The city runs out of ambulances day after day for nonsensical ems calls and understaffing and the public has zero clue. The city is run so poorly they’re incapable of keeping police officers and paramedics. These guys are risking their lives and families futures for $21 ish an hour starting pay.
