I love that his interpretation of “spoiled” is truly the most valuable things a child could experience or learn. Encouragement, discipline, cleanliness. I thought he was going to mention material things or something along those lines, and the fact that he values that upbringing so much is really refreshing. I agree with most everyone here, would love to listen to him again. I am biased though, I will watch anything Mark does or is featured in. Lol. This guest saying he would like to share with her what he is feeling is such an interesting way to word how he feels about sex and/or intimacy. His way of speaking is so honest.

Meghan, I listened to his explanation on that and thought what a shame it is that the world has conditioned us to consider THAT as spoiled. I was like "And what's wrong with being spoiled?" Funny but not at the same time. I too was waiting on the materialistic aspect but I guess now if a child comes up in a loving environment with little to no trauma then that's enough to qualify.

@sovietchampagne

@@Twenty2mke One thing I think that is often neglected in discussions of "spoiled children" is that spoiling is so often a form of emotional neglect. Not necessarily in Alex's case, but in the case of the suburban middle-class children who seem to "have everything they ask for". Alex's description of "spoiling" sounds like being doted on in a really emotionally intimate way... in my childhood, "spoiling" (with material things) was like a substitute that was supposed to make up for a lack of emotional connection. It was a way for my mom to try to buy the relationship with her children she wasn't able to build in a healthy way, & then hold the "debt" over our heads when she was upset with us. In my experience, "spoiling" functions for the kid kind of like addiction. The things they get "spoiled" with distract the kid from their underlying difficult feelings for a while, but when the novelty wears off you're back where you started, maybe even in worse shape than before. If you can't deal with the problem underneath, then you just keep looking for another "fix" (toy, candy, whatever) over and over to numb and distract yourself from whatever unmet need (i.e. child's natural need for attention, affection & love) is eating away at you, which as a kid you probably don't even understand that well. But the people around you don't take it seriously because you seem to be a "spoiled" kid who "has everything" (material) and they can't see any reason why you would be frustrated, pissed off and depressed all the time... it's a real brain fuck to grow up like that and it really messes up your ability to understand, voice and respect your own needs. Sorry to go off on a bit of a tangent, I just saw a discussion of "spoiling" and I guess I found the opportunity to let loose some thoughts that I've been carrying around for a while.

@@sovietchampagne No apologies necessary. That was an awesome breakdown of a side I neglected to think about. Thanks for making my brain move! I guess I was thinking solely about how Alex described his upbringing but after reading your post, maybe he downplayed it or hasn't dug that deep into his own psyche...or maybe I just interpreted his words wrong. Either way, I have heard other people break it down, not as specifically or well-worded as you, but close and it makes a ton of sense when you put all the pieces together. Kudos for you doing the mental work on yourself and I hope you're doing well and continue to on your journey and wherever it may lead you!

38 years old and never had a serious relationship. I wonder too Mark, if he can ever fall in love. He said he's holding back and plans to go home to get married eventually.... but you can never go back. He's lived too many miles. Talking about honesty but really living a corrupt life. One thing he said that is so true, life is short. I don't think he really gets that he's already lived half his life. He's not young any more. I'm guessing it's his parents plan to have him marry someone from his own culture. She'll be getting someone with a sex and drug addiction. So along with contending with a new culture, she'll have to contend with that. It sounds like when it's time he'll go straight but us swu viewers know the truth about the struggles of addiction and the powerful draw to the streets. This interview touches home for me. I met a man from Iran when I was 23. He told me we couldn't be serious because his parents would expect him to marry someone from his own culture. This is a long story but we've been married now 30 years. His parents eventually accepted that their son had changed and grown in ways that they had no way of predicting or controlling. Alex, I hope that you can be truly honest with yourself and maybe your parents too . Don't go to Egypt to find a wife to bring her back here and lie to her. Save her the heart ache and struggles. Please.

I'm 39 (straight male) and I have never been in any romantic / intimate relationship, so on one hand I can kind of relate to this guy (but not relating so much the part with being unemployed and blowing the benefits on drugs and paying for sex). I don't think that us humans should be judged by the number of notches on our belt (or lack thereof), but rather on our actions, and what value we bring to our own lives as well as the lives of those around us. On the surface Alex seems like a genuine guy (whether or not one agrees with his lifestyle) - I do wonder however what his rap sheet is? He didn't seem to be interested in elaborating.... Hopefully just relatively petty things such as drug possession and nothing that involved bringing pain or anguish to others.

If the chicks are smart they will play them and create this need to be the "good dad" or something they never had in their lives. They will say they need help and want to get clean and change their lives, but they find it almost impossible to live more than a few hours without their drug of choice. Some will eventually grow up and become tired of the cycle and get clean. But they usually do it when they decide it's time. I say this with empathy, but you can definitely tell he’s coming down from something or “fiending” which is an entirely different conversation…but it almost sounds like he’s borderline psychosis. And then BAM he abruptly reels it back in, surprising you with intelligent insight you cannot help but to agree with..IMO perfect interviewee for what I’ve needed to see tonight. @@bridg_2283 He may well not have had those problems in a traditional culture/the country or culture his parents grew up in. A particular challenge arises when coming from that culture to a modern western culture. You see it in ex-Amish, when they're allowed to leave the community and trying modern life, a high proportion get addicted to substances, etc. There's isn't, however, a documented drug problem within the Amish community. Given the option, people chase the high. If they don't have the option, they don't develop the problem. WoW, reading many of these comments for this video, I REALLY wonder what you people tolerate in your life. "Oh, he's so genuine"...."This guy is so truthful, best video, have him on again!" Really? Really??? lmao I am sooooooo glad I don't live in your worlds. When you tolerate his behavior, you make it ok. The problem with this world and people that tolerate people like him is that....... you don't challenge anyone. Challenging someone to "do better" builds their character, improves their self esteem, it does MANY GOOD THINGS.... but when we sit and condone this dudes disgusting choices and behavior then we only perpetuate more bad behavior and someone who adds ZERO quality to this world. How becoming! You positive thinkers REALLY need to think about WHO YOU SUPPORT! Have a wonderful day. 😉

I'm Egyptian, and I've been to the states once. I tried really hard to get a scholarship there and eventually move with the family, but it never worked for me. I was always thinking how would it be like for my kids. This is a very good example of how things can go wrong and out of hand. I don't know, I still would like my kids to grow in a free country that respects their humanity, but prefer for them to lead a chaste balanced lifestyle, like my ancestors did. We have our own issues, but the West is oversexualized for our taste, or at least the taste of fathers and mothers. Not that we're strict and extreme conservatives, but we like our children to grow up without being tormented by external effects, while remaining true to our beliefs and values. It's a dilemma, but home is changing to, we're not there yet, but the internet and satellite changed so many things.

Hi Mahmoud, fyi, this type of behaviour is extremely devient, i.e. NOT behaviour that normal people do. I have never met a man who's been to a prostitute and I've never met a prostitute and my family has been in N. America for generations. As long as you live in a decent neighborhood, watch who your kids hang out with and most importantly, BE PRÉSENT and teach them how to respect themselves, there is no reason for any problems. Also, there is lots of sexual abuse in Egypt, even on the streets and in families. It's just hidden, although Egyptian women are speaking out more and more about domestic and street abuse. #me too

Ancient Egypt: incest, necrophilia and orgies, the order of the day The main objective of the pharaohs was to preserve the lineage. This is why incest was allowed between brothers and, sometimes, between father and daughter. Only this condition was allowed to the monarchs, in order to protect the family organization. This practice would later be adopted by European monarchies, although marriage between cousins is more common. Curious to know that the Egyptians really had a pragmatic view of sex, that is, they saw more practicality than pleasure in sexual intercourse. Therefore, violators were castrated, because they were considered to act under their lowest instincts, unable to control them. Orgies were quite common in their culture. In fact, it was a historian of Ancient Greece, Herodotus, who discovered many of these rituals. He described in great detail some of the orgies that were practiced on the ships, while navigating the Nile River. One of the best known legends is the existence of the fellatrices, prostitutes experts in making fellatio, and who stood out for wearing red lips. An act that, for example, the Romans saw as impure. Another tradition that has aroused curiosity is that the pharaohs went once a year to the Nile River to masturbate, in honor of the God Atum. It was said that this being arose from "nothing" and that he masturbated, sprouting from his semen all the gods that would help him govern. Therefore, the pharaohs and their guests practiced this tradition, making sure that the semen fell in the water and not on the shore. However, one of the most disturbing customs was necrophilia, or sex with the dead. Although frowned upon in society, I was not punished with jail, or in any other way. Thus, many mummy embalmers took advantage of the moment when they were alone with the bodies to perform such acts. Moreover, one of the stories of Egyptian mythology speaks precisely about how God Horus was born precisely by this act. Son of Osiris and Isis, he was begotten with a clay penis made by his mother, since Osirias had been killed and dismembered by his brother Seth.

Always wondered how drug addicts qualified for social security disability. I researched. You can get social security disability if the *impact of drug use is (sadly) determined to be irreversible.* The use of the drugs has permanently damaged the drug user. We have the fantasy that if drug users just got sober, they would recover, get a job, and be "normal." Sadly, some drug users will never physically or mentally recover from their drug use.
