Trick: Removing a stripped screw

This video shows an easy method to remove a stripped grub screw from a surfboard’s fin box.
Tools needed: Electric drill, drill bit
Below are the steps:
1. Find a drill bit that fits snugly into the screw head. I used a 3/32 bit.
2. Install the bit into the drill
3. Slowly drill in reverse in line with the screw
4. The screw will heat up in about 1 minute
5. Slowly angle the drill bit slightly until it catches the edge of the screw
6. The screw will back out
7. Clean the thread and replace the grub screw with a new one

Does it need to be a specific type of drill bit? I've only used mine on wood and dry wall before, not sure you cab use them on metal?

What if the screw isn’t stripped and its the threads that aren’t right ? How can I fix that ? My screw only goes a certain depth and keep spinning if I keep tightening it. leaves the fin wobbly and not sturdy

Sounds like the screw went in at the wrong angle and cross threaded the fin box. Maybe try backing the screw out and carefully screw it in at the right angle (compare it to another fin box). If that doesn’t work, you might have to use a drill tap to fix the thread or go the next size up and use a slightly larger grub screw. If all else fails a new fin box might be necessary. Good luck.

What also helped for me, is get a flat head at just the right size. Push it quite hard while screwing it out. Must be the right size though and your screw must be good enough
