Mike had only one round which was not good let's say... But all the other rounds were just unique, stylish, and with difficulty in them and a very good variaty of tricks and execution in 4/5... On the other hand Andrew had really good execution in all rounds and cool style, but no difficulty or variaty... For me Guthrie was definitely the winner without a second thought :)

I couldn't agree more. I can't even really add anything--you hit it right on the head... I literally was just saying: "whoooaa, look at the creativity in some of Mike's passes", and was... well... you know, a bit less impressed with Andrew overall. They both did great, but... yah... I don't get it, hahah.

well in that case Michael's technique is far more perfect than Andrew's, Andrew landed his stuff but with more effort and it was lower difculty, mike also only touched the floor once, and he at least beated Andrew in 3 rounds

This battle reminds me of the one between Vellu and Chris Afonso. Vellu tried to variate as much as possible and showed new and difficult tricks, when Chris basically did the same combo over and over again. Here's the same thing except Andrew did was pretty good as well, but not nearly as good as Mike in general. I think the judges just don't want the famous trickers to win. :(

moad alami Actually, throwing a triple cork would be kinda cheap in my opinion, everyone knows what Mike is capable of coming into this competition, I'm pretty sure he consciously chose not to do it. He failed one round and that was enough to cost him the win, but man envergado punch bs14? double full punch bs12? That mega cork combo? tell me that's NOT breathtaking..

R1: Mike barely R2: Andrew R3: Close call R4: Mike barely R5: Mike R6: Mike Andrew's great, but he showed next to no variation, obviously way below on difficulty, and took no risks. In short, boring to watch. Minus R2, Mike was just as consistent, just as clean, and showed versatility. I have nothing but respect for these judges, but this just doesn't make sense.

Just remember, Judges are tasked with judging one particular aspect of the trick and NOT an overall performance. If it's anything like bboying, the 5 aspects are : Foundation, Creativity, Difficulty, Execution, and Conversation. Whether or not these are the five Trickstar uses, watch the video 5 times looking ONLY at a certain aspect. That is how you judge - non biased. - doubt anyone will read this, since it's old news, it's here just in case

Just the mere challenge to stay perfectly calm when facing Guthrie deserves an award. To watch him fuck up one landing, knowing you have a shot if you pull off all your moves perfectly, and then do exactly that, is definitely enough to win.

The judges were consistent the entire competition. Clean tricks over difficulty. Think of each pass out of 10 pts with "a perfect combo" combining trick execution, trick difficulty then quantity of tricks factoring in hierarchically. The second you crash, you give up all the points. You lose the run. Andrew's asses scored: 6,8,6,7,6,7=40 Michael's passes scored: 8,0,7,7,9,8=39 Even though Mike had much higher trick difficulty, he completely loses a pass and kills his score. I'm not saying this is how it should be but rather that the methodology the judges applied was consistent. You can say bigger tricks deserve a lot more points but the fear becomes you have everyone just throwing big tricks and no one landing them just to be able to compete. Execution has to be top priority when dealing with competitions. If we want these competitions to be more legitimate,we need to adopt scoring similar to gymnastics or ice skating where the difficulty of the pass determines the max amount of points you can earn but execution determines how many of those points you actually get. tl;dr the judges were consistent, change the scoring system, spam dubs
@Novastar.SaberCombat
@Novastar.SaberCombat 10 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... I see your point. Like... maybe a "multiplier" for each tier of difficulty? And perhaps a major "subtraction" if you fail badly or whatever...? In any case... hmm... if it is ALWAYS solely about clean moves, it just discourages people from thinking outside the box with passion, fury, spirit and heart. And if it leads to it becoming "homogenized" like gymnastics... it'll be a sad day. :( Not only in my OWN "low level" eyes, but... I can guarantee that the originators of Tricking would be sad, too. :( *sigh*
@Jammerjoint
@Jammerjoint 10 жыл бұрын
"If we want these competions to be like gymnastics" There's the bombshell. We still don't have a consensus as a community of what we want tricking to become. Why can't it be like bboying? Bboying has evolved a competition culture that is COMPLETELY different from gymnastics, and works well for them. It even fits our cultural roots. I train with a lot of gymnasts, and trust me when I say the cultures are water and oil. Why should we aspire to be something we're simply not? A score kill for a crash frankly does not make any sense. Even in gymnastics this does not happen. You'd just get a .5 deduction, a whole point if it's really bad, but never a zero. You lose points for that skill, not the whole pass. If anything, cut it in half. Note, I'm not blaming the judges for adhering to a system, but I'm criticizing that system. Also if we're making the comparison to gymnastics, Michael should have gotten a lot of extra points for difficulty.
@Novastar.SaberCombat
@Novastar.SaberCombat 10 жыл бұрын
James Liu very true that a "score kill" would be bad on anything other than simply not combo'ing or passing. I mean... what if you throw an INSANE combo... 90% of it is ridiculously off-the-charts, Anis-Jerm-Graham style berserk... but then on your final move, you bail a bit and your knee goes down. Or you even "roll" out of it. Soooo punish that "pathetic" combo with ZERO points??! IDK. Methinks not, but it's just my opinion.
@derekloche7719
@derekloche7719 10 жыл бұрын
James Liu I said if we want the competitions to be more legit, we don't have to adapt gymnastics style scoring or something. The judging as it stands doesn't accommodate for situations like this battle.

This is Sesshoumaru, and first off I want to congratulate both Michael Guthrie and Andrew Franklin for making so far in the tournament series, both of you have battled through some pretty heavy hitters to get to this point...so great job in that respect. Not that my critique is needed, because the judges are competent enough...but Andrew certainly won this. Here's my breakdown: R1 - Tie (debatable) R2 - Andrew R3 - Andrew R4 - Andrew R5 - Guthrie R6 - Guthrie It was really close, so close that if you make an argument about Guthrie taking the first round, then this contest would be a draw.

Dylan P if you can explain to me the tricks Andrew did and then explain the tricks Mike did they're not even on the same level man!!! I can sit here and say the specific tricks Mike did in the battle that Andrew can't even attempt doing, aannddd Mike is still sharper and cleaner than Andrew. Don't get me wrong Andrew is a great tricker but he can't even compete with Mike let alone beat him!! It's unexplainable man
@BboyDyme
@BboyDyme 10 жыл бұрын
This video is a perfect example of how clean and simple tricks can beat elite level tricks. Guthrie's tricks are clean but they weren't as clean as Franklin's from what i saw. Also the small screw up on Guthries part costed him alot. Franklin's sets were on point, sharp, and clean. It wasn't a easy win though, You could tell it was a very close battle.

You all have your opinions and your opinions are all valid but according to this competition, the winner is decided by the judges. Each of the judges, despite their inclinations and affiliations, has contributed immeasurably to the movement that is tricking and is therefore qualified to judge based on the criteria that they see as definitive of tricking.

In my oppinoin the judges are completly wrong. Michael won this battle without a second thought. Andrew was amaizing dont get me wrong but michael´s way to trick was far more imoressive. Harder tricks were cleaner as andrews in relation to difficulty of tricks. and it´s kind of weird that anis and daniel voted for andrew he is their buddy and they train together and michael had/has some issues with anis and daniel. But anyway this battle was amazing both tricker went hard, but michael went harder. Loocking farward for the next JAM Battle ! You should keep Jeremy and Steve for judging the next Battles.

OK, finally got the reason why Guthrie Lost. They wanted him to return in season 2 of Trickstar to win just so we have to watch a whole another season to actually see the king of tricking be crowned,

The judges, although legends, kind of ruined these battles. Way too biased towards clean, easier tricks to complicated and creative tricks. Who wants to see the same few basic tricks spammed in succession over and over? (I'm talkiing about all the battles btw, not just this one.) If trickers were to adhere to this kind of judging for battles from now on, tricking would be boring as hell.

Congrats to Andrew!!! He did well in this battle. I guess the judging was more like in a bboy battle, which means that the tricker with the ultimate moves does not automatically win, but the tricker who does his moves right on point.
