Na, You’re lying. You already knew what an incredible actor Jaideep is and that hardly anyone, male or female can beat him. You just wanted to be nasty towards Kareena because she provokes jealousy in people like you. No need to put down the other actors when they also did incredibly well and were praised by all.

There has to be a sequel to this man. The way Maya just realizes that teacher's plan is great and plays accordingly is flawless. She was almost composed when she knew teacher will take care of it. She escaped the abusive husband she changed her name and has successfully been avoiding him. She's smart. Not once she hesitated or made a mistake from her side, even when she messed up she was calm about it, no hesitation while talking to the police and so much more. She knew that when needed teacher would take the fall for her and she was ready for it. She once even said hum teacher k student thodi h. These maybe are hints for a deeper story or maybe just loose points. There is so much more to her character that should've been explored. Maybe they will. But yeah that would have turned a good film into a classic one.

True ..she was seducing both of naren and karan why she does that is not explained..she also is all the time like I don't get it ..I think she actually gets it ..and her true secret went away with her husband..maybe she did something back in the days..also she says she was sold by her husband in the bar which actually didn't look like to be the case when her past was shown for a bit ..when her younger self was pole dancing and her husband was there too ..

SPOILER ALERT- I liked the movie. But, when you watch a good thriller with a good starcast, your excitement builds up throughout the movie and you expect a shocking twist at the end. The ending of Jaane Jaan for me was okayish, I was expecting much more. Throughout the movie, I felt there was something off about Kareena's character. After murdering someone, she was so normal from the next day, no amount of fear on her face and even her daughter was so chill. And , in the climax, how easily he let Jaideep go behind the bars, no guilt or gratitude for him. Jaideep has been shown as the mastermind in the whole movie like Ajay in drishyam, I thought the main twist in the end would be that Kareena is the actual mastermind here, playing innocent woman all along and manipulating everyone around him, also some twist related to her daughter. But, sadly that didnt happen. Although, it was sort of a happy ending, where Jaideep protected his second love (Kareena) and reunited with his first love (Mathematics), because the real world didn't respect his passion.

The only common aspects between the stories of Drishyam and Jaane Jan are, getting away with murder committed by a mother/daughter duo. Other than that EVERYTHING else is different. It is silly and "micro" to compare the two otherwise. Drishyam was a far superior movie generally. The acting was better in Jaane Jan. Lastly, Kareena Kapoor did a great job and my goodness this lady looks great without (or minimal) makeup indeed.

SPOILER WARNING for Drishyam 1&2 + Jaane Jaan The big similarity is in how the alibi is constructed. In Drishyam, the accidental killing happens late night on Oct 2nd. Devgan spends Oct 3rd disposing of the body, buying movie tickets, bus tickets, Pav bhaji, and goes to the ATM. All alone. Then, on October 4th, he does all the same actions (except ATM) but with his family. Then he visits all the places again a few days later, talks to the witnesses, subtly puts the idea in their heads that he last met them on Oct 3rd, not the 4th to support the alibi his family was away 2-3, not 3-4. All the witnesses are convinced they met them on Oct 3rd. That was the cleverness of the alibi that mesmerized everyone. Jaane Jaa also relies on the alibi being constructed the day after the accidental killing. But instead of manipulating the witnesses, the body itself is manipulated. And swapping a corpse this is the big and final twist in Drishyam 2 (but not as dark as Jaane Jaan). Not an outright copy but definitely inspired by the novel.

I thoroughly enjoyed Jaane Jaan. I have thoughts though. Maya managing to escape an abusive husband, creating a new identity for herself and avoiding detection for 15 years really established the intellectual prowess of the character. This could be used further. She looked at the clock at 9 when she murdered her husband, and went to check outside. What if she was checking if teacher was on his way back? What if she knew she could use her charm to get the teacher to do her bidding in at least hiding the body? Maybe the teacher did want to get away with the perfect crime. But Maya knew there is nothing called a perfect crime. Maybe the teacher did want to burn traces of Ajit completely, but Maya could've created a distraction while he was burning the clothes to seem like someone chanced upon them and could've led him to flee, thus not completely burning the body. Also, it just seemed odd that Prema would talk to Vijays character after so long. What if Maya instructed her to do so, saying that I do fancy him, but tell him covertly. Just some thoughts lol, which would've made Maya the true "Devotion" of suspect X.

Also the body of Ajit was never mentioned so we don't know where it is or what happened to it and another point which I noticed that at the end of film when Kareena leaves the police station you see some people entering the station, if you look closely you will notice that those were the same people who were sleeping next to the homeless man who was killed. What if they are his relatives and came to report of him missing this opens up a lot of possibilities.

Plus a clean plan has to save every one .. if the teacher has to take all blame on him, ruining his repute as a murderer and psycho, no need for such detailing, just drag the body out of Maya’s home & surrender … or much easier to try to built up a case of self defense / support by Naren as to save a sexual assault of mother - daughter, rather than killing an innocent homeless and making it much more complex by creating such a long alibi …. In contrast Drishiyam , hiding body beneath construction and saving EVERYONE was the real goal achieved !!!

Such a spot on review. The story was so weak and come on. Killing an innocent man? How is that alright? If the twist was Maya used the teachers obsession over her to get away with murder or if the teacher has managed to get everyone out with a murder by convincing police there was no murder would have made a much better story. Instead they muddled it all up with having the teacher who had no sociopathic tendencies gruesomely kill an innocent man to cover up a murder and Maya who could have proved her innocence because her husband has done some really bad stuff (though she had no way of knowing that she will get justice). Didn't make sense. Also, the husband who is so evil took 14 years to find his wife who was apparently his cash cow? Why now? You think he would have moved on to better things by then? Would have made so much sense if he was chasing her all along and she had to constantly keep running away from him and finally got tired of running away. Also, all she does after finding out he went to school to see her daughter is to drag her home and cook dinner? Shouldn't she have been packing to run to next city when he comes. If that was her fate all along would have made sense she killed him because she is just tired of it all. It had potential but lost along the way. What I liked best was when the local cop says single mothers don't have time for all this, I know because I was raised by one and Karan looks embarrassed for his insensitive comments earlier..

Remember the scene where the principal reprimanded Naren for making the tests too difficult. That's Naren's flaw: he gets joy out of making problems overly complicated. So he created this plan to kill a second person, because he's so in love with Maya/Soniya that he wants to prove to her how smart and amazing he is.

SPOLIER ** The maths problem for Jaideep's character was to save Maya & her daughter and also himself from going to jail. Sadly he could only solve half! 😂 Ajay in Drishyam though not clever in maths solved the whole problem - nor he or his family were convicted! 😂 I actually didn't understand why he had to do all the confession drama. Police already knew his unknown whereabouts on 10th and his likeness for maya, enough to investigate him, jail him for sometime maybe but still there would be no proof/confession. I thought after his confession acting, police would have found out body is of another person & then let him free stating that he is mentally unstable and making stories 😅 Jaideep was on fire. Only disappointed at the end, kareena & her daughter didn't look grateful enough for Jaideep taking the blame, too rushed. It made me think if maya is the actual mastermind afterall 😂😂

The actors were indeed phenomenal but the direction felt pretty weak in this one. Even writing at some places. The characters should’ve been more fleshed out so as to match their motivations- the backstory of Maya, the character of the daughter, Teacher’s love/obsession with Maya, all of it had so much more potential. None of it seemed good enough to actually make me root for them. And even though this was an official adaption, I feel Drishyam was a way better movie experience.

Will it be following same pattern and template of Pathaan like whole movie celebrating return of big superstar with strong villain (Jim/Emraan) and lame spy plot with sudden but crowd-cheering cameo of the other one. And yrf saying look here we have 2 films in same year, celebrating King Khan with Bhaijaan's cameo and vice versa. Or will it be a continuation to spy universe and actually set plots for War 2 and Tiger vs Pathaan. Like an actual serious attempt to make a spy universe and not collection of random movies with a tag of universe on it. What's a your opinion on that? Would love to know brother. ❤️

Kareena was pure gold in this movie. I think her role was more challenging than Jaideep Ahlawat due to the fact that major portion of his character depended heavily and was done perfectly by the prosthetics. Kareena was mostly on her own doing on bare minimum. She had most screen time and it’s extremely difficult to get away with mistakes. And what an amazing job she did throughout never letting anything go away. Another feather in her hat. Similarly, Vijay Verma was as natural as he could be. His wits and expressions in every sequence. It is amazing how he plays such complex characters and still manages to come out as so much likeable. Absolutely, no doubt that Jaideep was brilliant and by far his best work.

I read the 'Devotion of Suspect X' in 2019 and found the book very impactfull and jaw-dropping when the climax is revealed. Also I felt the messaging at the end of Jaane Ja was a bit different from how it was in the book, the book not being a happy ending, but both Jaane Ja and Drishyam sort of being a happy ending. Plus, the book made me feel also about how inconsequential the lives of certain class of people in our societies are and even if someone goes missing, noone would even bat an eye or look for them, that ending made me think. But that impact was completely missing in Jaane Ja and I felt the climax should have been given more time to breathe for this to feel more personal and familiar. Although the cast have done a phenomenal job, (Kudos to Ahlawat especially), Ishigami will still remain my favourite version of Naren, George Kutty or Vijay Salgaonkar.

After watching Drishyam, I had read the novel 'The Devotion of Suspect X' and found it to be completely different except for the basic premise of throwing the police off the scent. Drishyam was of course very very loosely based on the novel. So diluted that while reading the story I was waiting for the major twists from the movie but they never arrived. The novel ends in a rather bizarre manner where the whole efforts of the mathematician are wasted. Something completely different in Drishyam where the protagonist is successful.

The same thing I felt towards the end of the film is that, on one hand, Jaane Jaan is more realistic while Drishyam had more drama and masala. However, I enjoyed Drishyam more. I guess that's where Indie films suffer because even if they have a very realistic feel to it, not many can give you the thrills that a pinch of masala can. It's also a fair assumption that commercial/mass movies work because a person who is living a monontonous life, while watching the movie, believes that he/she can be such a superstar, who jumps over buildings, dances with his/her beloved, defeats evil, saves the day, and is appreciated by all.

Jaideep's performance made me so uncomfortable like gosh! The last gruesome act of killing a stranger... 😰 This made me realise what a terrific and stellar performer he is! 👏🏻 Also whenever he looked at Kareena I couldn't help but feel his look creepy and he was always sort of stalking her😅 Also, Kareena and Vijay also rocked. Tara was sooo irritating always "Mumma, mumma, mumma" 😂😅 but that's why I have to appreciate the child actor. She did a good job! But but now, I felt that the movie lacked something.... and no I'm not only pointing towards the end 😂 but rather other points... I understand the makers creative choice, decision and outlook but to me it lacked something (I can't particularly pinpoint what). It started out good but rushed the end. Plus, I can't believe how Karan easily believed Naroo 😂 SO I'M SAYING THAT KARAN IS REALLY SHARP, so he definitely knows allllllll the truth 😊 also all the alibi's shown in the movie said against Maya so, Karan kept on saying that her alibi's are true. So even, he himself fell in love with her😅 and at the end was protecting him. So even without "Teacher's" help Karan would save her. And, the last look of Karan says it all 😊 Also, I can't understand why she couldn't tell the cops the truth??? Her husband was doing all illegal activities and she killed him by mistake. It was self-defense. I know he must move around in high circles. But still... and I don't know that actor's name but gosh! He was amazing too. That entire episode of him visiting Maya at home and then the tussle with Tara and his heinous dialogues... gosh! That was well 👍🏻✅ also he pimped out his own wife and also wanted the little daughter to join! Ew! Plus movie didn't exactly ever explore the nature of Ajit's and Maya's relationship. Like her past. What exactly made her run away??? I know he was pimp but still. Shouldn't she have reported him, instead of just running away. Somebody would have must help her. But okay.

I don't understand what did people like about the plot and why aren't they pointing out the loop holes. 1) Why did Naren have to kill another man if he intended to prove that the body is of Ajit...Cmon, the forensics never give an accurate time of the death..there's always a range of several hours...so just to show that Ajit died on 10th and not on 9th is a loose plot. 2) If he could successfully hide the body of Ajit then why the need to produce another one. Body chupa do..murder hua hi nahi. Nobody goes to jail. So in all these aspects Drishyam is a far superior movie to the original novel.

1) coz Ajit died on 9th and Maya had no alibi. the coroner could identify the time of death. so killed a man on 10th around the same time. (that was clearly explained) while forensics cant accurately pin point a time, they give a window of 4-6 hours. To give her a solid aliby, he made sure it was at least 24 hours 2) as long as there is no body, the police will always suspect be hovering in the area. its better to get it over with.

Sujoy Ghosh did what he's best at. Jaane Jaan is the typical Sujoy Ghosh thriller. The tonality, colour grading, location, character building, camaraderie between the characters, it's a treat to watch. The trailer got me intrigued because it was captivating, cold, and the cast was a mismatch (as per typical Bollywood scenarios) and boy.. it has passed with flying colours. Jaideep Ahlawat through Naren shows us obsession of a man with mathematics and his next door neighbour. Even though obsessed with both, he is okay to let go coz his love for both, mathematics and his neighbour, is pure. The way Naren's character is written is beautiful. Naren is intelligent, good at what he knows/ does but Naren longs for love and sadly believes physical appearance determines your worth. Sad but most of us are Naren. The little details, him (Naren) bitterly complimenting Karan about his appearance and how they're of the same age yet Karan looks half his age, conveys the pain and alleged unworthiness Naren feels. Naren/ Jaideep Ahlawat is the star we always knew we deserved and we've finally gotten :) Kareena Kapoor is good. Her bond with her child seems at a very surface level but she has delivered with her performance. The anger and pain in her eyes while she's strangling her husband (Saurabh Sachdev) justifies why she's a good actor. The premise, direction, acting, background score, is apt and truly makes this film worth your time but it's the plot and dialogues that are the true star here. Edit could have been better but the rest of the good aspects overpower it. Having said that, we've often seen Indian adaptation of great thriller novels not justifying on screen so Jaane Jaan deserves the credit. Overall, a very crisp, engaging movie.

My one crib with this well made adaptation I have read and loved -- why such a literally dark film? I get it, Kalimpong is a misty hill town, but some scenes of light badly needed. @@lalithasubramanian4951 The choice of colour grading and a dark, eerie atmosphere in a thriller movie can often play a crucial role in defining its tonality and enhancing the overall viewing experience. While I can understand how prolonged darkness on screen might strain your eyes, it's important to note that such techniques are often employed to immerse the audience in the tension and intrigue of the narrative. It can be seen as a deliberate artistic choice rather than a gimmick. Filmmakers often use lighting and colour grading to convey emotions and set the tone, and in a thriller, this can contribute significantly to the overall impact of the film.

Drishyam and Jaane Jaan explores different solutions to cover up a murder. I think that's the only resemblance. The performances in Jaane Jaan is good especially Jaideep. But when it comes to Drishyam, it actually excels in most of the areas especially in performances, emotions, twists and thrilling moments.

I haven't read the novel but while watching the film I was constantly thinking is Kareena going to have a larger role at the end. Because there were so many incidents where she seems doing few things on her own which looks very suspicious.. I almost felt she is going to be the final mastermind as she seems like a street smart women who have seen a lot in her life and ready to do anything to survive for her daughter. It is very delusional that person (especially women) who have seen so much in her life never guessed her neighbors TRUE feelings for her.. I would have personally liked if it ended on a note where Teacher realises that he was been used this whole time and his love have blinded the genius inside him..

I don't understand something - did Jaideep plan to admit to the murder from the beginning itself? If yes then why didn't he come up with a simpler story of being in love with kareena and killing her husband when he saw him hurting kareena and her daughter? The evidence on the body like the daughter's scratch marks could have been explained away as being part of the struggle that happened before he intervened. Why complicate things?

The movie was just ok to me. The climax came out as very very contrived … a mistake I see almost every writer and director in Indian cinema making .. almost smug in presenting an ending that they pat themselves on their own backs trying to say see how smart I am … and 99% of most Indian audiences..the minute they are unable to follow the story say “what brilliant direction”… such lunacy.

I felt a few moments could have been more brief and that might have added to the thrill. BGM was quite nice and refreshing as it mingles with the old songs. Keeps a sense of touch to Maya's past. The story line was quite predictable until the last 10 mins of the film. Overall a good watch.h

To appreciate the ending which am sure many people won't but I am a Higashino fan and I have read all of his available work. The devotion of suspect X wowed me 10 yrs back. But I would still say it's not his best work, the best novel is 'the journey under the midnight sun' where the dynamics between the leads are similar but way more expansive and a lot deeper. The charector played by Kareena Kapoor is brief as compared to yukiho in that novel which is expanded upon. The perfect diabolical social climber who is ruthless at heart but sweet on her mannerisms. The story extends over 20 yrs and ends heartbreakingly but what thrives and is chlling is the pragmatism of Yukiho. There is one Korean film on this subject called White night where the casting of Son ye Jin was on point. The book is so intriguing and filled with complexities of life and how people are manipulated by a sweet mannered woman all with the help of a man who has similar feelings for her and a detective who chases them for over 2 decades. It's too big to be made into a movie but I hope someone can make a webseries on the same. 0:02

All actors are absolutely amazing !!!, Jaideep’s Sir’s character’s look n’ feel is very close to Bob Biswas (Saswata Chatterjee) from Kahaani, Bob Biswas (Abhishek Bachhan), again by Sujoy & Annapurna Ghosh!, feels like this character is very close to Father & Daughter director duo!

Drishyam's climax seemed more satisfying because it is. Jaane Jaan doesn't give a clue about the Ajit's dead body. And if it can't be found then why there was a need for another murder? And let's say it was done so that Police doesn't keeps investigating the case (as in the case of Drishyam) then why the murder has to be in similar fashion? It was done just for the viewers. Absolute rubbish.
@TriedRefusedProductions
@TriedRefusedProductions 10 ай бұрын
There was a need for another murder because the autopsy of Ajits body will indicate the time of murder. In order to create a perfect alibi for Maya (going to the cinema hall and kareoke with her daughter) : there has to be a murder of another person so that the timeline makes sense
@Auchitya01
@Auchitya01 10 ай бұрын
@TriedRefusedProductions But the second question still remains to be answered. Why did the murder have to be in a similar fashion? It was just for the audience. So that we assume it's Ajit, and in the end, we would be like, 'oh so this is how he did it'. But if you think about it, Police found the body then deducted the heater rod thing, but if Naren killed him with, say, knife. How does it matter, when the original body is not found.

@@m.ahmedkhan4915 The how and why is insignificant. Considering Teacher was a genius mastermind and the conviction with which he says “body kabhi nahi milegi” indicates he has disposed the body in a way that’s impossible to be found. Moreover the whole plot is based on the fact that the body was switched. If they showed where and how he disposed the original body would defeat the whole twist and there’s no point in revealing it in the end, because cops never figured that the body wasn’t Ajit’s. It’s a creative choice of the director to leave it to our imagination. He probably doesn’t want actual murderers in real life to get ideas 😅 I think we are squinting too hard to find loopholes here and in my opinion the bigger loophole is how would Teacher and the homeless man go to Ajit’s hotel room unnoticed! I’m willing to move past these little things though, as it is a crisp and captivating thriller for 99.9% of it. You do you, go to Kalimpong and look for the body if it helps. Thank you!

While i agree with you on climax. But i can see why ghosh thought it would be perfect. His climax focuses much on "Devotion" while the novel has a much happier ending reuniting the main characters in prison. Jaideep's portrayal almost made me believe that they altered the story to make him some kind of Psychopath Serial Killer. Jeethu deserves respect for elevating his material in both his movies
