Hey wonderful humans,
This video is all about what to expect when you do a humanities PhD - from the academic workload to the lifestyle!

My name's Lucy and I'm a humanities student focusing on queer romance novels of 21st century, so obviously this won't be the same as science people. Also, everything I say is my own opinion! If you have any questions about PhD life or studying at UoB feel free to leave a comment or contact me on social media.

Easily the most helpful video on KZfaq about a humanities PhD. There's heaps about the sciences which have some helpful takeaways, but your channel has been a lifeline. It's so motivating to know that someone else know's what my PhD is like. Thanks for adding value, Lucy!❤

Thank you for your video! I am going to study abroad this year as an American and British Literature Studies Ph.D. student and I really feel a little stressed about that. I really do not know what to expect in the future but after watching your video,I feel a little relieved. thanks!

Good points. But regarding articles and conference papers: going on a bit of a tangent can bring up something new and useful to your "actual research". I am studying a large(ish) text corpus and writing articles that are based on teeny-tiny parts of it has increased my understanding of the material in general and made me look at literature that has turned out to be useful for other things as well.

That is true! I just think you have to be careful to not do something so unrelated to your core research that it can result in lots of additional work that you can't/won't use again :)

The most important phase a humanities PhD needs to know is "would you like fries with that" !
