This was a tough subject.
I have been directly affected by decisions surrounding Behavioural Euthanasia, and not just as a Vet Nurse.
It is hard enough to make the End of Life Decision, but I feel, almost harder when you are dealing with a "Healthy" animal.
Mental Health has such a stigma, and it is no different in Animal Care, although I would love to see this change.
This is an incredibly emotional topic, so please Viewer discresion is advised. The last thing I want to do is traumatise you further
If you think there is a space for a support group for Behavioural Euthanasia, please leave your comments below.

Thank you so much for this video.. Many people do not understand and its highly stigmatized. We have been through this recently, and I am feeling a lot of guilt, grief, losing my best friend. You go through so many what could I have done better, what ifs, could I have changed our life more to make this work. I ordered a locket with his photo, I'll write him a letter, just moving through the grief. I can relate there is a lot in life now I could not do before, such as having someone over, not constantly worrying about if he got off leash ect, and it is a relief to not always worry is this the day animal control takes him if goodness forbid he hurt someone. As you said, it can be good 99 percent of the time...He was so smart, knew many commands, loyal. But it is like a loaded gun. Thank you for no judgement, grateful to watch this today and I am sorry you had to go through this too.

Thank you for making this video. I just had to put my sweet girl down. It was a horrible decision to arrive at, and now after the fact it’s pure torture. The guilt and what-ifs and regret plus missing her is making me fear I’ll go insane. She was my best friend. But she would nip my kids unprovoked and fought with my other dog. She really tried, and the bites on the kids were not severe, but after seeing her go ballistic on my other dog and not being able to get her to stop, I was worried what would happen if the kids ever ended up in the middle of a fight. The vet supported the decision but I still feel bad that I couldn’t save her. She was either abused or had something wrong genetically; I feel guilty wondering if I could have fixed her if I had been able to get more time with her. Sorry if this sounds overly dramatic, it has just been such a tidal wave of grief, I really know the meaning of that word now, grief. Thank you for sharing about your boy.

Thank you for this video. My family justvhad to put down our beautiful boxer boy cooper today and it was the hardest decision ever. He had 4 strikes on his record witt my mom n dad being his last 2 bites causing stitches. It was so hard bc 98% of the time he was the sweetest goofiest boy, could play with kittens and most dogs fine. But he was unpredictable, and when the switch flipped he would be almost unstoppable like when he got a hold of my pit who couldve easily overpowered him but my dog doesnt have a mean bone in him and almosy got killed if it wasnt for my dad nearly killing cooper trying to get him off. I just dont understand how such a loving dog can randomly snap. And as far as guilt i keep thinking i could have said or done more in coopers final minutes to make sure he knew how loved he was. I couldnt talk bc i was so choked up and all i could do is stare in his eyes with my nose to his as i watched him slowly go to sleep 😢😢😢

Reading your comment I felt like you were telling my story. My dog had just turned 2 and was such a good boy in so many ways and he was such a sweetheart to me but he bit 3 different people without any provocation whatsoever and a fourth due to food aggression. I did rehome him and was completely honest that he had bit but the new owner thought she could handle him as she had so much experience with the breed. I got a text from her about 2 1/2 weeks later that she had just put him down. I started bawling wondering what I could have possibly done to him to make him that way since I had him since he was 8 weeks old. The only thing I can think is that I’m not a very alpha leader. I pray that neither of us has to go through such heartbreak ever again. I’m almost afraid to get another dog, but I miss my boy so much.

Sometimes you also have to think about the liabilities. It's also unfair to the dog if you have to take such extreme measures that they end up losing quality of life. We're gonna go through the same thing too in a few weeks. We've decided to do it just tonight. Our dog (10 months app. when it happened - just over 1 year now) killed my cat (9 years). We tried expensive 1 on 1 training, we tried to socialise him with puppies, cats, but he's too anxious and reactive. It's unfair. Our vet told us that he can't technically be rehomed, as if he was assessed, he'd be declared dangerous if the cat belonged to anyone else, and I'd have to be honest about his past. Because he was our dog, and killed our cat, we decided to give him a chance. At first when it happened, I hated him, and we tried to surrender him, but the shelter is too full, and who'd want a dog that's killed another pet, and is highly reactive? That's when we decided to chance it with intensive 1-1 training. My husband had a hard time when it first happened, but now that we've tried what we can and little improvement, he's decided it's time to let him go. I get so worried when people come over. I half expect him to bite someone. He growls and lunges at people, I get so anxious that when new people walk in, he has to be on a lead. Even the trainer when she first came in, he stood there, growled and barked at her for a decent 30 minutes because he just couldn't self regulate. He doesn't understand boundaries, no matter how hard we try to teach them. It's too bad, but it has to be done.

I am so sorry to have only seen your comment today, how tragic for you and your family. I have no doubt your dog was much loved and what an awful decision to be faced with. And on top of that, to lose your cat in such a terrible way. living with a dog with a bite history makes us hypervigilant, always waiting for the next incident to occur. I am so very sorry for your losses.

Thank you so much! We needed to hear this. We may have to go through this real soon. We love our dog like our own baby. The heart knows no difference. But we cannot wait for another incident where someone’s life is threatened.

We just had to put my dog Bella down because she’s seriously maimed my other dog and my mom, my husband and me several times. I miss her so much and can’t even move from my bed I’m grieving worse than ever. She was a rescue and severely aggressive I think the past owners might have abused her

ugh i feel for you and your family. it is such an awfully difficult decision to have to make. I am sure that the vet and training team would advise you if there were any other options. Be gentle with yourself. You have tried your best, but at the end of the day, you have to keep the other members of your family safe. I am truly sorry you are going through this.
