Thank you for this video. Your tangent should be opposite/adjacent or 1/sqrt(3)
@MySecretMathTutor
@MySecretMathTutor 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, tangent is opposite / adjacent. Note in the example we are finding the tangent of 60 degrees. This is the angle in the other corner. So the opposite side is the sqrt(3) and the adjacent the 1. Hope that helps out. :^D

Do I have to multiply by the square root of 2 to the top and bottom if the numerator is the square root of 1/2 over 1 ?
@MySecretMathTutor
@MySecretMathTutor 4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you might be working with a complex fraction. (Think fraction with more fractions) I would work to simplify this using a common denominator in the top and bottom. Basic Math: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rptogLijyODGqGw.html Algebra: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/matnnshpyafMZGQ.html

is it possible to have trigonometric ratios that are not the special ratios?
@MySecretMathTutor
@MySecretMathTutor 4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! These are just very specific ones that are "nice." The 3-4-5 triangle is another good one that comes to mind. The ratio of say sine or cosine would be a nice fraction, but the angle is not quite as pretty sin(36.87 deg) is approximately 3/5 cos(36.87 deg) is approximately 4/5 Hope that helps. :^D

at 5:52 sin is opp over hypo so it should be 5 over 10 right ? cause adj is 5 root 3
@shahadalojail8124
@shahadalojail8124 5 жыл бұрын
yes but when you wrote sin60 at 5:52 , should'nt that be cos and not sin? that confuses me cause cos is adj over hypo and not sin

shahad alojail yea your right I don’t think he wants to admit it
@very_trees
@very_trees 5 жыл бұрын
Bit late, but here goes.... He's right, because we are looking for sin of 60. The opp side to the 60 angle is 5(rt5). If you were to do 5/10, then you would either have the sin30 or cos of 60. Remember the opposite is the side opposite the angle you're looking at. So for 60, the opposite is 5(rt5) and for 30 is 5.

sorry meant all of the other 90 values, cos 90, tan 90, sec 90 etc etc
@MySecretMathTutor
@MySecretMathTutor 4 жыл бұрын
These do not fall into the "triangle definition" and have to be defined separately. cos(90) = 0, sin(90) = 1, etc We can do a "unit circle definition" that relates the sin and cos to the x and y values on a unit circle as well. This might help give you values for these. :^D
