TRIMMING A BIG, 650 LITER AQUARIUM - A TRIBUTE TO TAKASHI AMANO

Күн бұрын

A tribute to Mr. Takashi Amano, this 650 liter aquascape is the biggest one in the Green Aqua Gallery. Balázs and Viktor jumped to trim this aquascape after leaving it to overgrow too much.
Aquarium plants in this aquascape require frequent trimming. Bi-Weekly or so. For slower aquarium and less maintenance work, we recommend replacing the fastest growing aquatic plants to a slower one.
Trimming moss is needed to avoid the bushy look and to keep it healthy on a long-term.

Uau! There's so much to be said here... About de VIDEO: So cool! Balazs you're a natural... great presence, great hosting, great rythm, congrats! The editing and the music are to die for! [ I know how much love and work go in to that ;) ] Overall, just BRUTAL is the word. About the TANK: Very inspiring and aspirational... the simplicity of plant choice and the flow of it's arrangement, the complementary presence of bigger fish, the architecture of the layout that immediately calls out Sensei Amano's signature, and the quality of general hardscape and all the hardware involved. So, so, up-scale... uau! Tonight I'll be dreaming about this one, for sure. Thanks for sharing in such detail. About our common source of INSPIRATION: As a Portuguese, I feel very humbled, blessed and honoured to have Sensei Takashi Amano’s ultimate project - FLORESTAS SUBMERSAS- present in my country’s capital Oceanarium It’s always a very fulfilling and inspiring visit, and we locals are most fortunate to have the opportunity to go see it very often I DO HOPE that projects similar to this, take shape all over the world! And of course that if Budapest ever finds the will and the means to make that happen, I wish you guys could lead such project as ambassadors of our underwater world. May you be so fortunate to find a sponsor with the same passion for Aquascaping and Nature Aquariums similar to ours... On that journey, I wish you the very best of luck! 🍀 Absolutely AWSOME guys. Namaste. Peace. 🙏🏼⛩

Luís, thanks so much for this comment, it is these words that truly inspire us. There is indeed much to work on these videos and subtitles, but we love this hobby so it is an easy task... Hosting is not as easy as it seems though... ;) I am really glad you like both the scape and the presentation, I will certainly work towards bringing you guys more of these little videos in the future. Portugal is one of the best places in Europe for Aquascaping, I have many friends there, I hope to be able to visit Florestas and you guys soon again. Cheers, Balazs.

Hello guys, great video of a stunning tank! I'm really interested in your diy custom co2 reactor... Saw the bottles standing in the cabinet (in the 450 litres also). Could you guys show us a bit more of your system and maybe do a video on this topic? Keep up the good work, you do amazing things in your shop! Greetings from Holland
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, thanks for your kind words! The DIY custom reactor is actually a small settling plastic part we got from the pond hobby. It has been drilled to get the CO2 hose in, and it has a fine metallic mesh in it (that actually is a pain as it clogs often) that will keep the bigger bubbles float in it until they are small enough to be pushed through it towards the aquarium. So nothing special and a bit of a maintenance problem but it seems to be working - it would probably not deserve special coverage. The bottles are for the plant ferts doser, we plan to change these into something better looking soon. ;)
@nickh9294

@@GreenAquaShop Thanks for your response, I can picture how your system is set up. I've got an 195x80x70 tank standing here. Filtration is an fluval fx6 and fx5, both pushing water in diy pvc reactors. This works great, with some biomedia in it it's zero maintenance on them. For the auto dosing pumps; I'm also interested in this subject, might be something for the future 😉 Anyways thanks again and keep on scaping!

This is an amazing tank guys. Well done I really like the more nature type aquarium. One question on the weeping moss. How do you get yours to look so neat? I had issues with the weeping moss not wanting to cling to the wood.
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, thanks for your feedback. Appreciate that! 👍 On weeping moss you can check how the aquarium is build here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qZqchaSbtbSyc3U.html Used glue for the mosses. Other than that just trimmed a few times. Moss goes well with more light, lean fertilizers (however PO4 needs to check if you see some discoloration). Colder water temp below 25 for sure. And we use soft water in our tanks. Pure RO. So in this optimal condition, the moss grows pretty well. And the glue will keep it in place. 👍

This is mainly because of an imbalance in your tank. We would start with a good aquarium clean, filter clean and make sure the light is balanced with your system. Not too much. Try to avoid any natural light. There are no products which help you. But snails or otocinclus can help with this too a little.

Yeah, the tanks with stem plants always look a little battered after trimming and they need a couple of days / weeks to get back to full shape. Check out our trimming competition vid if you did not do so yet. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7F_gpxizpu1gqs.html

Link to the DIY co2? Looking for a less expensive option for a new 55gallon setup that I'm about to start. Yes, there are lots of DIY videos out there, however, some of them seem to be unprofessional and may cause more harm than good. You guys seem like you know what youre doing! Beautiful tank; I hope to someday have a house full of masterpieces such as these.

Thanks John, these encouragements mean a lot to us! Well, the DIY CO2 is actually nothing special, have no link for that really, just got it from a local pluming shop. A plastic settler that has a metalic tube-shaped fine mesh in it, the water being pressed from the inside of it outwards and being directed towards the tank. All we had to do is to get the CO2 hose inside that "chamber". Some problems with the clogging of the metallic mesh though.

are there any cheaper alternatives to ADA lights you would recommend to get similar results?

We haven't seen any that come close to this. There are different ones, but the color will be different with them. On intensity we do not know any which is in par with it.

How do the stem plants not shed leaves down in the mass of the thicket? Is it just really high light levels?

Yup the Solar RGB is an intense lighting. I am not saying it could not happen, but on this tank, it works well.

I am still curious how you make that moss very mature and healthy, what kind of fertilizer do you use ? How to maintenance it ?
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 4 жыл бұрын
Nothing in particular, just good lighting, good flow (filtration), regular water changes, good fertilizing (needs some nitrogen too).

This tank is amazing , i have watched this video several times... Does moss cotton works for riccardia chamedryfolia? Does riccardia roots on branches or need a permanent fix like riccia line?
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 5 жыл бұрын
Riccardia needs a bit more time to attach. Many people use dry start to save this time and self attach the moss to the trees. If you do not have time a little glue helps. Moss cotton would not fix it in this short time probably.
@freddy9233
@freddy9233 5 жыл бұрын
@@GreenAquaShop Thank you, i am afraid glue will kill the plant.. What about this riccia line you have? Would this be invinsible after a while? Ps. I see you are using riccardia a lot. I have zero experience on this but i want to start experimenting with that moss.
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 5 жыл бұрын
Sure plants will grown out of the riccia line and will make that invisible. We do use glue in many cases however. Use less and the gel type. With a brush you can even the glue to a thin layer. The plants will damage a little but will look perfect in a few months.

This has inspired me. I am going to try and replicate your tribute to Mr. Amano’s tank at home in my new 180p! You think my two Oase Biomasters 850 are sufficient filter capacity/flow for this aquarium with similar livestock as yours?
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 3 жыл бұрын
Well, they would be a bit small I guess, but you can give it a try. If you promise to do the regular water changes. I do not guarantee it. I would use 2 Eheim 2080-s instead. But if you do it like this, please let us know in a couple of months how it goes.

@@GreenAquaShop Thanks! I will let you know. Could you maybe answer me one more thing, how many kilo's of black lava rock are approximately in the scape of yours? I might use a little less but still have to consider the costs haha.

Do I need to turn on oxygen 24*7 ??? My aquarium water temperature stays 24 to 28 degree Celsius
@GreenAquaShop
@GreenAquaShop 5 жыл бұрын
No need for Oxygen if you have a lot of plants in your tank. They produce enough for your fish, provided that you do not overpopulate the tank. You need CO2 injection though if you want healthy plants and strong lighting.

The original scape was beautiful. We only captured one moment of it not the whole life cycle. Here the tank changed a lot from the beginning and we let it grow. So the plants showed different faces within a year. But we enjoyed a lot this transition. 😊
