There are some significant differences from DIRAC, especially around bass steering, and the MSMC aspects of the technology as well as you need to make sure you get the room design correct to begin with as well as use passive acoustics. I watched this interview at least 17 times while editing haha!! Exciting times in the space of bass management that's for certain :)

Personally, i feel Dirac ART would be better ( just from reading the white papers and understanding the way that each company is approaching this ).

I don't think this is like DIRAC ART at all. It's just a double bass array described also here and been used for a long time: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_bass_array. Non optimal subwoofers placements, according to the orginal DBA idea, sounds to me they are calling that "bass steering"....so yeah a delay to compensate for non ideal positioning of the subs. DBA's needs strict placement whereas ART will work in any room with any gear. I'm rooting for any system to improve bass performance, but this just doesnt feel like noting new, just a rebranding of a DBA with some delay compensation for non optimal sub placements. In the video it's shown to reduce decay above normal subwoofer frequency, but it's not clear to me that this system is active in other speakers than the subs. At least he is honest that is requires a lot the design attention and cannot be used optimally in any situation, again a clear advantage of ART over this. At the end there he refers to subwoofer distance and it's not clear to me if he refers to the general DBA formula, but higher number of subs in the array lends to a higher working frequency - that is if you want your subs playing up that high. DBA's are awesome and I read many have super results with them so I am not surprised is was a good demo. Buy a minidsp and some subs and you can create your own DBA.

Hopefully I'll still have my Altitude in 20 years!

Sure, what Trinnov are doing is not a double bass array, they have a technology that they demonstrated at ISE USING a DBA. Their tech isn’t a DBA. If you listen to the whole interview it will explain it.

If you own an Altitude, the update will be free, but yes, you will need to get an Altitude to take advantage of this patented technology.

It's a dream even for me at this stage and I own a Trinnov. The key is the design of the room is very important to get right, unfortunately for me, I can't place my subs in an optimal way for this to work, but for those who are going to create a new room or can redesign it, they will be able to place their subs in the optimal positions to take advantage of this.

That's my gripe too, taking a well known approach that a DBA's are, and rebranding it as something new. I'd be more content with - "We looked at DBA's and made them easier to implement"...I'd like to be convinced they worked out how to "bass steer" in the way in a new way that isnt described in the general knowledge about how DBA's work.

I've also had issues getting the synergy 3-ways dialed in - unfortunately looking at doing it externally and just having the trinnov control it as a single speaker.
