TRIP REPORT | Low-Cost Long-Haul is Real! | Oslo to Los Angeles | NORSE Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

Norse Trip Report flying from Oslo to Los Angeles onboard one of the Norse Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on a perfect summer day.
A really comfortable flight from Oslo to Los Angeles onboard the Norse Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Norse Atlantic is a new long-haul low-cost airline that basically took the Norwegian long-haul model and renamed it. It's fair to say that Norse Atlantic is a "Norwegian long-haul v2.0". So, Norse Atlantic is a low-cost airline, therefore consider everything I say about them from that point of view.
We departed on time from Oslo in a northbound direction. Just after takeoff, we made a left turn to start our flight to Los Angeles. The flight couldn't start better: there were 0 clouds over Norway today, so we could see perfectly all the mountains and fiords before entering the North-Atlantic ocean. After almost 2:30h of clouds, we finally spotted Greenland. It is not as spectacular as in winter when absolutely everything is frozen, but wow! It was still amazing. Lots of icebergs, glaciers, sharp canyons and high cliffs. Greenland is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen from a plane.
From Greenland, we flew another hour over the Baffin bay (North Atlantic Ocean) on course to Canada. Sadly, we couldn't see almost anything of it, as we had high clouds all the way.
About the onboard service, as a low-cost, Norse Atlantic has a buy-on-board menu but also offers the option to buy online normal food options, as in any other long-haul airline. I decided to book online both the main meal and the pre-landing light meal. There were 2 options onboard: fish or chicken. I went for the chicken option, which was coming with arrabbiata sauce and some vegetables. It was quite tasty but the portion was too small in my opinion. Luckily, there were some extra meals onboard and I was able to purchase a second one. Much better for a 10h+ flight.

I don't know how people can't be bothered to look at the incredible views below them, it's a real privilege. Four years ago I flew to Santiago, Chile and the views of the Andes were breathtaking. Another immense experience is flying over the Carpathians into Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Norse is finding transatlantic a challenge. October load factor only 60% which, for a low cost airline, is not good. BER-LAX suspended until 2023 and Germany's Aerotelegraph reports that this route *might* not restart at all. Currently Norse's management are evaluating route opportunities for 2023.

They’ll be heading just like their parents Norwegian Air - straight to the cleaners! Nobody is flying with them - their product offering is awful. No incentive to fly with them at all. Their flight attendants are the worst also, super rude and cold.

Fantastic video! I love to fly over Greenland - the sights there (of course weather permitting) - are absolutely overwhelming! I am happy to see that the crew on this flight did not dim the window against your will (like most of the 787-operators unfortunately do 🤮)! That is why I completely avoid the 787 on longhaul flights because looking out of the window is my personal IFE and a dimmed window completely takes away the joy and beauty of flying!

The scenery of Norway, Greenland, Canada, and the United States from the sky is truly beautiful. Most of all, I am Korean, so it was nice to see Korean Air. (^_^;) Thank you for allowing me to enjoy a great flight. I sincerely hope that you are always happy and above all healthy. Love from Korea.

Your trip reports are the most relaxing to watch! :) looked liked an alright flight taking the price into account. Unfortunately I think Norse will be in a (verry) difficult position with (too?) much concurrence with big airline. They need to be very careful and should secure both significantly lower prices than the other options on their routes and a good quality product. Otherwise it will be difficult to survive on this market I think .. let's see :)

Hola Lucas, me gustó este trip report, super interesante sobretodo porque volaste en una aerolinea que rescató por decirlo de alguna manera los aviones de Norwegian Air UK. En el fondo estas aerolineas van profitando con todo lo que te pueden vender durante el vuelo y te cobran hasta por respirar dentro del avión, si llevas maleta en bodega, te pegan un fierrazo por cada tramo, al final no sale tan tan barato volar. Volé un par de veces en Norwegian Air UK asi que este vuelo tuyo me trae nostalgias. Comentario aparte la belleza de Groenlandia guauuu super bonitos los glaciares. Que decirte de Noruega!!, me encanta, ya estuve en Bergen, Alesund y Tromso, es un pais privilegiado en todo sentido, los paisajes son de ensueño, pude hacer unos tours por los fiordos antes de la pandemia. Asi que felicitaciones por ese trip, me gustó mucho, asi que va dedo para arriba!!. Una consulta técnica Lucas. ¿tu sabes porque hace ese movimiento descendente y luego ascendente y finalmente se estabiliza ese aileron interno que tienen los B787?. Me encantan los sonidos de los B787 por cierto jajajajaja!, cosas que solo los amantes de los aviones disfrutamos!!😄 😄😄😄😄😄😄Saludos desde Sudamerica.

I always a) book a window seat b) avoid Dreamliners / 787 for crew controlled window shades c) look out of the window the whole way and get a crick in my neck! Always book the right hand side of the plane as my natural inclination is to lean to look right. Love the look of Scandinavia - I need to go. But living in the UK, the primal urge is to south for sunshine - warmth - sea -

Amazing video, and from my hometown too 😄 If you want to capture the fjords of Norway, basically all flights from OSL to the western parts will give you those views if you are lucky with the weather. Traveling north is also a great option to capture some amazing scenery. 🏔

To overfly the Norwegian fjords try Wideroe from BGO to AES. Best chanse for good weather is May and June. Wideroe uses turboprops and flyes lower then jets.

Hi, nice tripreport. I like your appetite. Like me. :-D I think, that hot meal, snacks and beverages are part of travelling by plane and it makes happier journey, especially when it tastes good. :-D But, on this flight it was really expensive. When I fly with Czech airlines or Smartwings, I can choose from variety of hot meals and the price is only around 15€. And, you have got three beverages (alcohol, hot and cold). Taste and presentation has not competition. Try it and you will see. :-)

Very nice flight report ! Especially for the in-flight views which are wonderful. I just wanted to point out that Norse and Level aren't the only long-hall low-cost airlines in Europe. There's another airline based in Paris Orly airport in France which is named French Bee. They fly from Paris to North America (EWR/MIA/LAX/SFO), and also to French overseas islands such as Réunion Island (RUN) and Tahiti (PPT) using the Airbus A350.
