Trip Report: Qatar Airways A380 First Class Doha to Sydney

Over nearly 16 hours, in First Class, and on the A380 operated by Qatar Airways no less. This is going to be a trip report like no other.
After all, the Qatar A380 is an aircraft the airline is supposed not to operate any more, but which it was forced to bring out of retirement due to passenger demand.
Each seat is huge, with throne like seating. There is the same inflight lounge as you get in Business Class, but the First Class dining is top notch, with five star eight course restaurant dining, along with a wine cellar with some decidedly rare drops.

After reviewing many of loungeindex trip reports. I always laugh so much after he peruses the privacy of the business and/or first class cabins as well as the food/cocktails and fine wines on offer, when he states; "I just might survive". Qualified and very clever smart humour here. More trip reports PLEASE!

You have a good wit, Lougneindex. I enjoy your reviews. I like you, would fall off that plane if I was presented with that selection of champagnes, wines and port. I was impressed that you managed to speak coherently for the live caption as you approached Sydney. Thanks for the review. Looks like a slightly better than Business Class service in soft product but less than in hard product. Can’t believe they gave away your preordered meal and disappointing service was lacking.

That was a great review. Love your sense of humor. Next time I travel I'll want to connect to WiFi and look up prices of inflight wines and tasting notes to get a better appreciation of what I'm drinking.

So enjoy your very droll humour-excellent! Al Safwa lounge is just amazing and you can access on a Business ticket with a sumplement; worth it on a long layover as you get a very comfortable bedroom. Crew seem to have been rather off form.

I'm two thirds way through and both utterly charmed by your "pantechnicon and pub attached" and outraged the bar is not full of me eating all 6 canapes with a matching wine and spirits list. Good point on the breakfast, they are all equally bad until someone cracks ( pardon the pun) the way to do a poached egg ontop of eggs benedict or royale. I mentioned the afternoon tea to my wife saying we must do this trip. We have just got back from a "sherpherds hut" on wheels ( isn't that a railway carriage ?) outside Bognor Regis ... so the skies the limit ... Brilliant review again and good to see the old cockney boat race in a video. All those free combs still haven't taimed your lower stratosphere locks. Jet streams eh ? Looking forward to the next one.

As a first class passenger you order a meal in advance and the crew give it away to someone else because you were sleeping, totally unacceptable. I would have embarrassed the cabin service manager infront of passengers. Did customer service do anything about it later? Clearly the cabin crew on this flight were very poor. Having to wake up a crew member to deliver meal service, asking twice for an amenity kit. On the plus side at least the wine selection was very good. I think you suffered in silence too long. Good Trip report.

19:47 The Ares Two Hands Shiraz you mentioned is $20? This is an error on this video as well as your written review on the web. It retails for around $200 USD. I tasted it DOH-SYD in February this year on QR and it was absolutely sensational. Sipped it without a meal on the SYD-DOH return; it was THAT good. I'm disappointed you didn't like it! How was the Riesling? 25:10 Had the exact same afternoon tea. It's a sensational snack - i had just the sandwiches on the way to Oz mid flight and it hit the spot. I hope they keep this. FYI, that "Rare Brut Millesime" works well as a mimosa. Despite the SYD 645pm arrival time, I had a couple of those prior to landing and it hit the spot!

Very droll! I'm guessing you work for Brewdog - what a brand! Great vlog! I'd have been pretty miffed if they gave my meal away because I was asleep - what shoddy service. It looks like Singapore business class is actually better than this on the A380

That's awful that they gave your pre-ordered dinner away. The whole point of dine on demand is that you dine ON DEMAND, not when the crew want you to eat. Unacceptable especially in First.
