Bemvindos!
I’ve flown many fancy cabins and interesting planes, but nothing made my av-geek heart beat faster than my first flight to the legendary Santos Dumont!
Come and join me on one of the worlds busiest flight routes between Conghonhas in Sao Paulo and Santos Dumont in Rio de Janeiro.
GOL is a surprising outstanding airline, and taking into consideration that I’m flying the biggest plane to this very short 1,300m runway makes it even more special!
Not only that, GOL operates the rare B737-800SFP (Special Field Performance). I’ll explain all the differences in the video!

Everyone treats me incredibly well. I’ve met so many interesting people along the way. We used to have a “Puente Aéreo” in Spain with flights every 10 minutes during peak hours, but the train ruined it all. I hope that the same won’t happen in Brazil😉 Glad this particular episode took you home for a bit. See you around my friend!

I loved the approach and landing in Rio. Hats off to the cockpit crew for showing so much skill and professionalism. I’ve yet to experience Paro, Bhutan for its landing. My favourite manual landing till date is Hong Kong Kai Tak.

Paro is definitely on the radar..! And for Kai Tak I need a time machine.. My mother used to be an avid business traveller as well and as a kid I lived from her Hong Kong landing stories! Hats off also to one of the GOL pilots who actually continued to inform me on which side the best approach would be. In rio the runway direction changes every couple of minutes, it’s insane! In one hour I was there on return it changed 6 times!

Excellent video of a route I have made a ton of times (lived in Rio and worked in SP many years ago). Great views and fascinating facts as always. Really great! Very happy to see a video from my part of the world. Theoreticly you could see my house 17 min into the video hehehehehe.

This is probably the best flight channel on KZfaq. I don't understand why is it so underrated. Bro hope you become the best channel on KZfaq and have the most subs. Just a request from your loyal subscriber which is me. Please do a flight review on spicejet. I have to go to my village, but I am confused that spicejet is good or bad. So with your reviews help I can book my tickets.

I’ve only been doing this for like a year and just part time (this is not nearly close to being my main job 😂). So I’m lucky to have reached this far already. Hopefully soon I can pay more attention to it. I promise I’ll fly on Spicejet soon. Can’t tell you when, it all depends on my busy schedule finding an opening.. This month I’m very busy with the Qatar World Cup.. I’ll do my best!

I saw an episode on Air Crash or Air disasters involving an aircraft crashing soon as they took off. I think it was towards the other side of the runway. Another episode I saw a GOL airlines being involved in a crash when they collided with a private jet in the Amazon jungle.

Geetings my friend and once again great reporting about GOL! It is so good to put domestic airlines like this in the spotlight! Your aviation knowledge surpases all other aviation geeks! I'm sure many will agree, and I happen to be a retired pilot, so I know! Just returned from Cape Town, Alex with plenty of wine tasting and good memories! Travelled on refurbished 777-300ER! Can't beat it! Travelled business class but tested premium economy what a fabulous upgrade! Following your insentive I bought some goodies for the crew! Haha! I remember you were going to upload an emirates flight from the USA to DXB?! Also any plans for the Air NZ flight AKL-JFK or vice versa?? Would like to meet you in person one day! Greetings Flip, glad to see you around! Thanks for the nice words. I can be very geeky for aviation and have spend my life asking questions or reading. I got to speak with a very famous airline president a month ago and in 10 minutes I learned more then in the past 10 years. And love to share the details! I am very glad to hear about your trip to Cape Town. The Premium Economy is splendid indeed, will try to film the experience here soon. And yes, I have a couple of video’s up and down with Emirates to the US but I have a big backlog and want to mix airlines. The Emirates Business Class video’s take over a week to edit while the ones like GOL are just 2 days😄. Greetings from Cairo, I’m on my way to Doha. It was easier (and cheaper) to fly First to Cairo and then to Doha then Economy from Dubai directly to Doha, can you imagine?! Tot ziens!

Nice that you have enjoyed Ponte aérea! SDU is an amazing airport for spotting, it possible to see the landings and take offs from very close. And Rio de Janeiro is a awesome city.

I was wondering what that Air France/KLM thing was doing there. Yes, it look’s like the’ve big time partnered up. Flying Blue status holders get many benefits with them. And yes, everybody is touching each other in Brazil, it’s all packed! Covid what again?! I fear that the end of empty flights (and thus seats) is nearing soon… But I’m still managing😜 I told you the next one would be El Al but I had to quickly reschedule that due to the Qatar World Cup (I’m flying to Doha on Qatar on the opening match day and that episode is going to take me forever to make..) Thanks Victor! It was one of my happiest aviation moments in my life! I knew where they were headed thanks to a tracking app that I have. Sometimes it doesn’t say the destination for private jets, but you can still see where they were headed and where it must have landed. Thanks for writing!

I've noticed that the 737s on GOL with SFP feature a drop-down tailskid during landing just like all -900ERs, but even though most other airlines with the B737-800 feature SFP, the tailskid doesn't drop-down there. Does this mean that GOL is using another variant of SFP or something?

I fly mostly for work and I had to visit Rio de Janeiro this time. I am lucky to be able to do what I love. The Swiss B777-300ER is incredible, I love that plane and airline! They have, in my opinion, Europe’s best Economy Class service. They have a lot of products on offer. I just wish the IFE had a wider choice.. Hope you enjoyed!

How hot is Brazil all year round??? Is it all summer since it is below the equator?

It wasn’t hot, it was actually chilly at times, specially at night. It is usually warm in Rio year round, but my bad luck I felt even cold🤷🏻‍♂️

It's not hot all year round. In the south and southeast in winter can be very cold. The southeast has temperatures between 5c and 15c and in the south between 0c and 12c, some days reaching below zero and with occurrences of snow. In the Northeast it is hotter, but cool between 19c and 24c. But with plenty of rain, in autumn temperatures are mild throughout the country. Extreme heat only happens in summer. But it is still possible to visit the Northeast in winter. But if you don't want to see the cold, avoid the southeast and south (which have a temperate climate as they are below the equator). Brazil is a country of continental size, it is difficult to have the same climate throughout the territory. Brazil is considered tropical only above the equator line (North and Northeast), below the equator the climate is temperate with the 4 seasons defined as well as in the countries of the northern hemisphere.
