This is the problem with the game right now. Despite the attack having likely been prepped and trialed many times, the point is you don't even need troops against a maxed base in the current meta. Hero gear, Invis spell cheese and even the spell towers working against the defender are all ridiculous mechanics that prove to be too silly. Heroes in general with gear being too powerful has ultimately dumbed the game down tremendously. When you have people that normally couldn't three star suddenly get consistent threes in war, you know something is off. It's so bad we even have pros competing to see who can three star the fastest. The fastest three against a maxed TH16 is like 48s. Tough to see the skill and three star requirements go in these last updates. Whenever you think you're good at the game just remember you don't need troops.
